Raw Summer!!!!

So today is day 1 of my raw food challenge and day 1 of my weight loss.

I have chosen the raw food diet because it involves no lengthy preparation, cooking or weighing. Its grab and go which I need with a housefull of young children and a demanding home run business. It is also one of the cheapest diets on the planet!

I have done the research into which foods I need to eat on a daily basis to help my diet stay in balance and to keep my healthy.

I plan to exercise frequently and drink water and fresh fruit and veg juices only.

The biggest challenge I face on this journey will be will power and motivation.

What I ate yesterday before I started my challenge.

Breakfast : leftover cupcake, cornflakes and half a banana
Lunch: pasta with chicken and peppers and sundreid tomato sauce
snack: Ice cream
Supper: roast beef with fries and salad and tartare sauce
snack: one of the kids left over easter bunny, in bed watching TV
Oh the shame. Today will be better.

Note to self.....do not loke raw peppers! Carrots went down well at lunch time and looking forward to my banana and spinach smoothie when I finish my swimming this evening!

Swam 1km so 40 lengths of our local pool. I plan to start traing to get better times and then start swimming further. Eventually 1 mile. Now that I have the childcare taken care of, at least for June, I can swim every day that I'm not working. Yippee.
Planning a plum, banana, celery and apple smoothie for supper with a carrot to snack.

Well done for making the decision to make a change in your lifestyle.

Too bad you have found that raw peppers are not your thing - I absolutely love them. I did not realize plums were in season already....yummy.

Thank You Jennifer72 and Jericho for stopping by.

I know that the raw food diet has its drawbacks as do most 'diets' but I need to base my diet around this one because I need rules and these ones are easy to follow. I am actually planning to do the transition version of this diet which allows for baked fish and chicken and some cereals such as quinoa and spelt.

I may have to try the pepper again Jennifer72, maybe I just had a not very tasty one. I usually like them but to be fair thats usually in a fajita or on a pizza!!

Off to swim my 1km again today, my legs are still killing me from a 4hr hike with the kids on Sunday.

Feeling good today, have to pee all the time but I'm sure thats mostly the water I have started drinking in place of my usual diet soda. Whilst I know there are arguments to say that diet soda is ok, I just need to go cold turkey on this one. It may also be due to cutting salt out of my diet. If its possible that can have such an effect already.

Enjoyed a lovely wrap for lunch. Avocado, cherry tomato and raw corn in a iceberg lettuce wrap followed by a celery, blueberry and banana smoothie.
The biggest thing I am noticing is that the meals, while quite tasty, are very very light. I guess this will help with my energy levels but will take a little adjusting to not having that heavy feeling tha I usually enjoy after a meal.

Had a rough night, smallest child was up all night and still grizzly this morning. Had a smoothie which actually didn't taste too bad. celery, banana, orange, plum, apple, blueberries and a couple of almonds.
Going to try the spinach and banana one for breakfast tomorrow.
Some of the recipes I found online will be great with meals and I am looking forward to smoked salmon at lunch today.

Tired today, kids have been out of sorts and waking me at 4am th elast two mornings. I'm desperate to stuff myself with chocolate and feel lazy and fed up. I think I will treat myself to an early night instead.
I am getting fed up that I still have to cook dinner for N when he gets in from work. He like meat and chips and bacon and stuff like. Cooking it and not picking at it is proving tough but I just have to try and keep telling myself.Feeling good at the end of the year is more important than having that small taste of pleasure then facing the guilt for the rest of the day. Still, its not easy when I feel the way I do today.
On a side not, the spinach and banana smoothie was actually delicious. I'm having it for dinner too.
Bought coconut water today too. Have to decide how to use it.

Had a lovely diet day off yesterday. I still did my swimming, 1mile (64 lengths) and then we had a bbq in the evening. I had lamb and some houmus, potatos, lots of leafy greens and an ice cream. I also had a chocolate cornetto. Now thats over, its back to best behavious again today. The pool is closed until 4pm but I plan to do another mile today and then go back to 1km on weekdays when the childcare is harder to organise. The mile took ma and hour and the km takes about 35mins. I hope to better times to start with then increse my laps. Hoping for a very good food day today after such an enjoyable day off, in time for weigh in tomorrow.
I really wish there was a weight watchers or something in this area. I would love the pressure of public shame to keep me motivated. Maybe I will ask the local doctors surgery.

Hi, how's it all going? Even though ur following a raw food diet some of those smoothies and wraps sound delicious.
I've cut out diet soda too although its fine its packed with stuff that's not good for u. I don't drink tea or coffee so it was all I used to drink and I used to drink anything up to 3litres a day. Now I drink loads of water during the day and at night I have a pint of soda water with lime cordial and I sip on that til bedtime.
I want to go swimming you swim loads of lengths which is fantastic. Keep up the fab work x.

One of the reasons you may need to go to the bathroom more (not entirely sure on this) is that fruit and vegetables contain high levels of water, and none of that's being released during cooking, so you're in effect having a lot more than you think.

Thanks for stopping by Amy and ski bunny.
I just had my first weekly weigh in and I have lost 5.6lbs this week. Feeling pretty pleased with myself although I do understand that some of that might be water weight.
I am loving the swimming but not always easy to slip out of a house thats full of kids.
I am working today (out of the house) and have to try and fit my swim in. I hope that I am not too tired by the end of the day.
I bought at book on smoothies and juices and got some great ideas for flavour blends.

Hi Italian girl. Yes is the answer to that one. I have smoothies and juices most of the time, trying to stick mostly to vegetable juices so I don't go over my daily allowance. I have eaten some beef tartare (very small portions) which is raw beef cured with lemon. I have also had baked fish and smoked fish. The diet is about 85% raw foods. It seems to be working as I am not hungry all the time, my skin is the best it has been in 10 years and I have so much more energy.
I am swimming approx 1 mile a day at the moment too although my childcare stops next week ( I have 4 children, 3 girls aged 3 and a boy of 9 weeks) and so I will have to mix and match what I can do.
Ski bunny, thanks for your support. I hope you have a good loss too. I felt heavier this week too. Maybe its the muscles gently aching that makes us feel heavier?

Oh, and I use the livestrong.com 'myplate' to track my food and to make sure that my meals are balanced and I am getting nearly 100% of my RDA each day. Even on the days when I miss the mark slightly I am still living a healthier lifestyle than I was before.
