Raising The Bar

Oh, and just when I was thinking my progress was stalling I think I'm developing stretch marks on my upper thighs which has to be a good sign

mods and admins can.. can't they? why else would we request one from them?..

What are peoples opinions on carb cycling? I just read the carb cycling for dummies article on T-Nation and on there it says it's not suitable for those looking to gain a lot of muscle fast but for for a slow, lean gain however I'm not sure what they would classify as 'slow' gains.

I want to be about 275lbs and fairly lean by summer 2009 and currently I'm about 230. Would I realistically be able to gain 45lbs in about 18 months with a carb cycling diet?

I know the order was screwed up again but the gym's getting busy and too many people are doing my routine now so getting to use stuff is hard.

Today there were actually benches discarded and shoved into corners as people were doing proper lifting, LMAO, how things change

Really? Maybe they see all the weight you're lifting.

The mods used to tell the admin, but now you can change it yourself.

If you think you can, then you shall.

Swole Cat II ??? o_O lol
I think that if you're determined enough and have a good diet and training program you can, or at least get very close to it.

Here's my Monday morning thoughts;

A good weekend for me as my girlfriend told me I had an Adonis bum and looked like a Greek statue from behind which was pretty cool as she usually hates muscle on me.
This caused me to look in the mirror where I saw loads of stretch marks forming all the way across my arse and round the side of my thighs which don't look very good! It must be the high rep work, the new routine has made my body feel like it had when I first started training.

Also, it feels a bit like I've turned up today only to find there was an epic battle over the weekend and I've walked in after the slaughter.

Next time there's a thread for opinionated rantings then please invite me first!

I'm feeling pretty great about the session I just had, my highest recorded squat is 308lbs but I've just knocked out 18 reps at 297 and didn't feeling like I pushed myself to the limit. I've made great gains with my legs over the last few weeks

Squats
6x3 @ 297

*DB Chest Press
6x3 @ 176

Hey, my chest pressing is back to normal :)

*Push Press
1x2 @ 132 (f)
5x3 @ 110

My overhead lifting still isn't back to it's best yet

Calf Raises
2x10 @ 297lbs

Not single legs like I was supposed to do but time was tight

Trunk Rotations
2x10 @ ? Can't remember

I'm feeling pretty good about my chances of getting up to a lean 275, mainly because over the last 6 months my training has changed approach big time which has resulted in my shoulder tendonitis clearing up completely, a big increase in lower body strength and for the first time in ages a clear idea of where I want my journey to end.

I think that now I have a path set out I'm gonna have more success in the gym

Ill make sure to close the thread and reoopen for it Monday so that way it can be started then :)

How? I've looked and I can't see the option to change my title anywhere

Should be user cp then options

Never tried carb cycling for anything. Anything will work if done right, but carbs are usually a necessity when bulking.

user CP and then edit profile, scroll down a smidge

Still no :bncry:

It seems that my profile didn't change like everyone elses when I passed 2k posts. I was also hoping to be able to give out irrational impactions (;))to those who bored me or simply had different opinions to my own but it appears that I also don't hold those powers either

What has all my spamming been for then?

On a training note, although I feel very tired today, I'm gonna eat big until about 2pm and then go and deadlift 400lbs. My legs have always been a weak point with my deads but they've gained so much strength over the last few weeks I think the extra 15lbs should be a stroll in the park (not quite but you get the idea)

There's good news and bad news

Good news = My new deadlift PB is 401.5lbs
Bad news = I pulled my hamstring doing it

I did just about everything wrong preparing for this lift, I was tired, I think I was still sub-optimal from yesterdays session, I only did 2 lighter lifts to warm up and worst of all, I was in the wrong state of mind to lift that weight. I really wasn't sure it was going up.
Half way through the lift it seemed to stop moving, my grip was weakening and I felt a sharp pain shoot up my hamstring. I pulled harder to take it up because I knew I wouldn't be able to have another attempt this year (due to the injury)

Anyway, I think it's not too bad, it's throbing ever so slightly now so I'm just gonna take a break from deads until the new year I think

EDIT: I realise I need gloves now, this lift would've been easier with better grip

sorry about the injury, and congrats on the PR!

I wouldn't rely on gloves for better grip, they just make the bar wider. Try some chalk (if your gym doesn't allow it, try liquid chalk, it works for me, I have no troubble holding anything now)

I have pretty big hands and I find the bar a little thin for my liking. I'm guessing you have pretty big hands considering your height so don't you find that making the bar a little bigger makes the grip more comfortable?

I am with Karky. The gloves take away a lot of the feeling you need for lifting. They also make hanging onto things pretty awkward. Just my 2 cents.

I got big hands, but my fingers are short (if you look at my hand and know about it, you'll laugh because it looks kinda silly)
but still, gloves suck! Get some chalk, even liquid chalk if you have to, it's the best thing I ever did for my grip.

If you want to make the bar ticker for some grip work though, do fat bar stuff, or if you don't have one, wrapp a towel around it or something.

Does the liquid chalk help with the bar ripping the skin off of your hands?
