Rachie's Diary

Measurements haven't changed since last time either. Must be doing something wrong. My body is resisting change!!! I've been working my butt off at the gym :( I know I can improve on eating so that's something to work on. Plus I can add more weights. I'm not doing as much as I'd like. Have to make time. All is not lost and there are still things to change. I am trying hard.

Thanks for stopping by from the cone of silence Mal. Just taking a break from the diary?

wasn't getting me results so I moved on from my diary...

but

Arr, me hearty, it's talk like a pirate day today, enjoy some grog today.

Arggg, Mal you be a true buccaneer although with all this weight loss you won't have much booty left - groannnnnn. Curse those landlubbers I ain't got me coffee yet leads a pirate to telling terrrrrible, terrrrible jokes.

Food for Thought

Breakfast: Banana; 109 calories. 2 Cupsa coffee 34 cals (had a mini-dash of half and half)

Lunch: Salad from the salad bar with lots of broccoli, carrots, onion (stinky), egg white, green peppers, a little taste of tuna salad (1 tbsp) and 1tbsp grated cheese. Light Italian Dressing. Serving of watermelon. :) 389 calories

So far today (According to Spark people)... 532 calories: 69g carbs; 21g fat; 25g protein

Clearly lots of calories left today - greaattt!
I'll try for a late afternoon snackola of some sort but I'm pretty full after my big salad.

Will update later....

Totals for yesterday

(EDITED - FORGOT TO ADD ONE THING)
CALORIES 1,329
CARBS 143
FAT 58
PROTEIN 48

I gave in to snacks at a meeting late in the day which made me feel gross. It also meant I ate a light dinner which was healthy but needed more protein. I am too low in everything and too high in fat thanks to the stupid snacks. A lot of the fat came from eggs I ate for dinner. My egg whites at lunch were good and got me thinking about poached eggs which I love. I ate two for dinner so although they contributed quite a bit of fat (yummy yolk) it's good fat for the most part. I probably won't eat any yolks again this week so my cholesterol will be good :)

What I learned from yesterday is that I get hungry late in the afternoon and I should have eaten the piece of fruit that I had prepared BEFORE the meeting. Best way to beat temptation is to preempt it!

If I hadn't eaten stupid snacks I wouldn't have felt icky afterwards, would have less fat and would have been happier to eat my healthy snack and a bigger dinner.

Changes to be made:
Be more aware of fat content of things
Keep healthy snacks handy and eat before I get tempted!!

Food today:
I've already planned dinner. Chicken and vegetable (Cauliflower, peas, onions)curry with brown rice. Yum!! I did forget my lunch today though so will have to buy before I get real hungry.

Be_gone_soon- calorie rotating seems to work - I'll have to get into the pattern of that again. Thanks! I'm trying to aim for around 1500 calories as that has worked for me in the past :)

Thursday Food and Exercise

Gym: 1.5 miles Elliptical trainer, Weights 15 minutes, Treadmill 15 minutes

Breakfast: Banana, cup of coffee;

Lunch: Salad with tbsp of tuna salad, loaded with brocooli, cauliflower, green peppers, carrots etc..

Dinner: Small piece of sirloin steak with salad and a dinner roll

Snacks: low-fat chocolate milk (heaven with vitamins), piece of dark chocolate, piece of cheese (damnit)

CALORIES CARBS FAT PROTEIN
1,593 113 79 92

I ate way too much fat :( I shouldn't have snacked on cheese and should have a lighter salad dressing... without that everything would have been decent. My carbs should be higher. I need to eat veggies or fruit for my snacks and fill up on good carbs and not bad fat :( This is good. I did have a bit of an eatathon on snacks last night. We eat late on a Thursday so I get hungry and snack too much earlier in the day.... According to sparkpeople. Carbs too low, fat too high, protein within range as are calories. I need to replace fatty food with healthy carbs.

Thanks!

I didn't do as well later in the day but that's okay. I'll have to make up for it!!

Gym this morning.

Elliptical: 15 minutes, weights 20 minutes, treadmill 20 minutes....

need to mix in my rowing and biking again for a good cross-training workout :)

Calories and breakdown so far for today... update to follow later/tomorrow:

CALORIES CARBS FAT PROTEIN
1,744 186 61 51

I am going to a friend's for dinner and already know what we are having. So provided there are no extra surprises, this is it! Although I see protein is low AGAIN. Darn. I really need to eat a large portion of protein for lunch/breakfast. That's where I am missing out. It'd really help fill me up too. Okay, lunches next week will incorporate either chicken or fish. I need to address the protein issue!! Oh and the fat too. Carbs are getting there.

I stuck to my calories last night. 1700 isn't bad at all. I want to monitor my calories for a while. Try the cycling maybe as be-gone-soon said and maybe then even start increasing a little. We'll see what happens. I'm cleaning my house this morning but will hit the gym or go for a run this afternoon :)

edit: Forgot to say that I'm updating my weight. I was 137.6lbs this morning. Better than the extra .4lbs so I'm taking it. I hadn't added my 2lb gain to the ticker but will put in today's weight now... although it seems to mess up my ticker for some reason... oh well

Hi Rachie!!!!

I am in awe. SO happy and proud you're being so diligent with your calories! I'm certain you'll get back to where you were-closer to your goal! YEAH!
RAH RAH RAH SIS BOOM BAH! LOSE THAT WEIGHT, LOSE THAT WEIGHT!:boxing:

Thanks Val! Great to see you back!! :beerchug:

Yes I feel like I am working a lot for very little. I hope that my calories and food intake will reveal what is my problem. I think protein is a biggie so I'm working on that :)

I was really miserable this morning thinking why do I feel so bloated everywhere then I remembered it's almost that time of the month. That's a relief because now I know why the scales are giving me problems! I'm still up but now know that it's pesky Aunt Flo!!

I'll be back to checking on my intake today but it explains why I have been craving carbs and junk food this weekend!!

Here's to the new week :)

Oh I am sorry to hear about that! It's almost that time for me too! I feel for you. Why is it, do you think, that we crave all that we shouldn't have at that time? You ever wondered? LOL I'm crazy I know. But I crave chocolate during that time BAD! I hope you don't get down with it and your weight drops when it's over. Have a great day!!:)

Yesterday's totals:
CALORIES CARBS FAT PROTEIN
1,367 124 52 74

Calories ended up on the lower side but that's okay I reckon.
No exercise yesterday. Slow to move in the morning and worked late so no time unfortunately. I hit the gym this morning though for 40 minutes. Felt good. Am still red faced :)

Scale said 137.4lbs so down .2lbs - ummm so about the same then :) I'm hopeful and will continue to work at this. It's my darn belly that refuses to budge. I've added ab workouts to my routine so I'll see how they do on top of my calorie-restrictions and aerobic exercise. I'm increasing the running again which will help a lot.

Goals for the day: drink more water, higher carbs and protein and a little less fat today... fruit for lunch, and an afternoon snackola.

My local sandwich place makes pretty healthy sandwiches but they are enormous! They just started selling half sandwiches though which is genius and perfect for me :) Now I can still get my fix without loading up on the carbs too much and will have enough room for a piece of fruit too :) I'm enjoying snacking on bananas at the moment. I definitely get addicted to one type of fruit at a time... although I did eat the remainder of some rasberries last night that I used to make a dessert for dinner with friends on Friday... they are tasty. Actually most of my daily fat (22g!!!) came from a little whipped cream that I was also finishing up  That's ridiculous... but it was good! I so rarely make stuff like that and now it's all gone. Still have raspberries left though :) Alright, time to get some work done round here :)

I love that stores now sell half sandwiches -many of the places here do as well -it's nice with a cup of soup... and you don't feel totally gluttonous.. :D

mmm raspberries - lots of good fiber in those -not to mention sweet like candy :) enjoy

Mmmm chocolate. I find dark chocolate sooooo good. I don't need as much of it to satisfy my craving either :)

Yes, love raspberries! Too expensive for everyday but they are goooood. Love soup too. You are right, sandwiches are great for that. Now the weather should start cooling I'll enjoy making vegetable soup all winter :)

For some reason I find it easier to lose weight in the winter and harder in the summer. I think it's being in the south. The heat of the summer makes me feel lazy and winters get cold but not ridiculously so. It's awesome for getting outdoor running in. I love running when it's freezing outside! I guess Chicago winters are probably a bit different eh Mal? :)

I think it's easier to lose weight in the winter too. For one I am mostly by myself and don't have to cook for my kids. Two i amke soup cause i am never warm and it's very low fat. And it's not so hot and so exercise helps to keep the blood flowing!! Makes me warmer!! Hope you have a great day today!!:p

I agree with Mechelle, it's much easier for me to lose weight in the winter--I drink less beer and there are less birthdays and parties.

Look, I know very well genetic makeup has an enormous influence on where a girl carries her weight--and our bodies are different, you seem to carry more weight in your tummy and I carry more in my ass and thighs. Also, fat will cover upa six pack even if you have it (well, a four pack). BUT here's what I do in my routine, maybe you might consider it, it keeps me flat there (except for when I am sitting in a chair, then hello bulge!). SO I do crunches, legs down, legs up at 90 degrees, legs straight up. But while I'm doing that, I concentrate very hard on the contraction and visualize the muscles. I also do the obliques, and the important thing is I do them until I start to burn--then I keep going until it's too much. After that, I get into the machine where you hold yourself up with your arms bent, and lift your legs up. I do 3 sets of 10 of those, and then I get into the machine where you lay down and essentially do the same thing, but they are different types of leg lifts. I also do one leg at a time. I also use the thing that keeps you up at a 50 degree angle or so while you do lower back and more oblique work.

What's your routine like?

Yep - warmer because I want to be I like. Summer, when it's ridiculously hot, and I can't cool down, not so much :) I do love soup as you say it's low fat and soothing!

My body really carries weight only in my mid-section and chest, at this weight anyway. Your ab workout sounds great :) Thanks for sharing. I need any help I can get!!! I do crunches, oblique crunches and leg raises. At the gym there's a machine where you use your trunk to push forward against the resistance of weight... that's a new one for me but it feels good. I am too inept for a lot of the further advanced stuff. I try the plank but I can't do it! I'm working on that though. I also have an exercise ball and my next goal is to use that to do some ab workouts. I have a good DVD at home that I need to start doing. I'd like to start trying the machine where you have your arms bent and raise your legs. Looks good but I'm not quite there. I should start trying though. In general my abs have a long way to catch up with the rest of me!! I'm starting to realize that I need to do more ab-focused work.

Thanks guys!!!
