well, here i am at work, trying to get this organized before i go home this morning and begin my first day to a new life.
i have bounced around 299 - 290 for the last year (thankfully no higher...the last 4 years i have put on at least 30 pounds a year), and i have finally had enough.
i am married without kids, and i want to keep it that way until i can get myself back under controll.

my goal is going to be a two-parter. we just started a 'biggest loser' competition at work, and i signed up. first weigh-in was today...280.5. this is going on for 16 weeks, so i believe that it ends around sept. 21. my goal for sept. 21 is a loss of 50 lbs. then, i want to continue for another 7 months, putting me on april 21, and my goal finish weight of 160. that's a grand total of 120lbs. i am not sure how realistic 10 lbs a month is, but i want to try. i have plenty of exercise equipment at home i use, and chemical diet that helped me go from 297 to 280.5 last month.

Welcome Rachael to your new life! Glad you found us here. There'll be ups and down's obviously, but you can do anything you set your mind to! Ten pounds a month is do-able but don't stress if it doesn't happen every month. Good luck!

thank you so much for your encouragement! every little bit helps. i am halfway through my first day and so far so good. working nights really throws my timing off as far as what time exactly breakfast, lunch, and dinner are...but i am figuring it out. used my total gym and took a long walk with the dogs today. all in all, am feeling pretty good, if not a little tired.

i think the key to staying on my chemical diet is going to be preparation. i didn't realize how much chopping and dicing and bagging had to be done. since i work 12 hours, i have to bring my lunch and dinner and snacks to work with me.

i work at the hospital 2 nights in a row, and then have 1-4 days off in a row alternately. so my eating and sleeping schedual is constantly off whack. if anyone has any tips/advice on getting organized and through that, it would be much appreciated.

lost one pound since weigh in yesterday.

congrats on the one pound, but don't stress about the scale, it can lie and misguide you. Just be healthy and you'll lose the weight. I used to work third shift too (UPS/airport) so I know what a struggle it can be to fit in with the rest of the world. Shifting schedules stink! I tend to eat my favorite low fat foods at any meal. Maybe that would work for you. Just find some good, easy meals in your system and just eat what you feel like. (If that's possible with your nutrition system) I'm realizing it's best when you simply develop good habits. It will happen. All the chopping seems monotonous now, but soon it won't...

Just don't give up. If you have an off day, just make the next one better. I'm learning that's the key to success.

Have a good night at work...or day...whatever it happens to be!
