Cohen's Lifestyle questions

Prefix for Cohen's Lifestyle
im a bit of a skeptic, but only bc many diet plans dont work. my questions are can u really lose over 100lbs in a yr without exercing? i might have misunderstood the testimonials and reviews... is it really as simple as a blood test and then a pre made menu? at least thats what i understood of it. and anyone can do it?

Hi April

Dr Cohen will decide whether you're suitable for the program from your first set of blood tests, I am not sure exactly what kind of things will make him turn you away, not many I'de imagine.

I am Australian so talk in kilogram's - not sure how many kgs 100lbs is? But yes, the cohens lifestyle programme is a very great balanced diet, rapid weight loss program. You're required to take regular blood tests to enable the clinic/dr cohen to monitor you. The program will tell you what foods you're able to eat and you are required to weigh all of your food.

There is a lot of information on the forums so I suggest having a read, there should be an answer for any of the questions you may have. Otherwise, the clinic's hold free information sessions (depending where you are).

Cheers
Kristy

Actually, you can lose over 100 pounds in a year without exercise pretty easy depending on your size already. It isn't even 2 pounds a week which is considered a healthy pace. Exercise is needed cause it helps the calorie gap. That gap can be created just in diet alone. Now, if you are so heavy (like me) that 100 pounds loss is needed (or more) then the calorie gap is huge.

2 pounds a week is 1000 calories less a day.Larger people need anywhere from 2500-4000 a day to maintain without added exercise. that is why people like me lose weight fast in the begining cause there is a large calorie gap for just a normal intake.

Plans like this is good if you need that guidance. You should see your doctor before starting any weight loss changes for things like blood work as is. Your regular doctor can do that to be sure there isn't a medical situation. After that, you can make your own plan to lose the weight without exercise.

That all being said...you should exercise cause it will promote good health. There is more to it that just weight loss.

A lot of people who are very obese find exercise very difficult for various reasons. I lost 36kgs in 28 weeks, with very little exercise so 100lbs in a year is very doable. I now exercise every day but would have found it almost impossible if I had been eating less calories than I do now to maintain my weight, let alone trying to exercise with a big calorie deficit.
Cohen's is not simple but it works. It is very strict & to work effectively you must follow it 100%. It requires a big commitment but it is towards your good health & that is one of the most important things that we possess. All the best, cheers Cate

hey April,

I joined the programme with about 15 kg to lose - I now have 5 kg to go (or rather 3 kg before I get into refeeding where 'bad foods' are reintroduced into your diet) and I have no regrets. Like you, I've always been very skeptical of any diet programmes, clinics. I've never been on a diet prior to Cohen's so what really got to me was researching more about the programme. I like that unlike other programmes, you have to prepare your own meals and that fresh is better. You are ultimately responsible for your diet, and not someone bringing prepackaged meals for you (how unrealistic is that??). I'm learning more about nutrition, and my previous bad eating habits. I never thought I was that unhealthy until I got on the programme and found that my energy levels went up, skin glowing, and yes, I lost weight too. Imagine that. Plus, having this forum helps because everyone is so supportive.

I also like the idea that the programme reintroduces 'real life food' into your diet, so you're not completely restricted. The idea is to complete the programme, and get into maintenance. A lot of successful Cohen-nites from what I gather are able to eat more than they used to on their initial programme but of course, realistically, you cannot go back to your old eating habits and not expect to gain weight. I find that this programme gives me the tools to choose wisely in the future - plus I really don't miss refined carbs that much!

Hey April

I have been on Cohen's now for 7 weeks and believe me the last 4 years I tried everything! I have lost almost 10kg thus far, but I must add I had 2 cheating days and I hardly exercise.

My best friend has lost 25 kg in 4 months!

So it's definitely do-able but it takes a lot of commitment and focus! But once you survive week 1 it's all downhill from there - for me anyway!
