Question on Cardio

Well, I've been hitting the gym for about 1.5 months going 5-6 days a week. I've been doing weight training but now I want to add cardio to my workout. Since I start school at 10am from Mon-Thurs, I was thinking about waking up around 7am and going for a run at the park near my house then go to school. After school around 1-3pm I would go to the gym and lift some weights, then do some more cardio after my workout.

I would like to know if this is a good idea, since I want to get in shape in time for summer. I'm also watching my diet and have a schedule planned out for my weightlifting. I also heard it's a good idea to run in the morning without eating anything because it uses the fat from the day before as energy. I don't know if that's true, but that's what I heard.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Overall sounds like you've got a good plan in place. My only advice might be to eat something light (complex carbs) before the morning run. Not a lot, but you'll need the energy. It is true that if you don't eat before exercise, your body will use what it has to make the energy, but if it can't get what it wants from body fat, it will go after muscle/bone to get it. Just my 2 cents tho.

Yea, thanks for the advice, my plan is to lost 20-40lbs before summer starts and I'm going to try to run in the morning 3-5 days a week.

Any other advice would be helpful, thanks in advanced.

I've read it is smarter to take in some protein (1/2 scoop from shake) prior to morning cardio.

If you are doing cardio to lose weight then I would suggest doing a HIIT routine in the morning.

Remember, weight loss is more about your diet than your time in the gym. Abs are made in the kitchen not in the gym.

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to try this out for a few weeks and see how it works out. If anyone would like to add anything else, or have something to share, feel free to do so, thanks.

Dont make yourself starving before exercise, it will only get you to the yoyo diet. Have a proper breakfast, like oatmeal and fresh fruit

Adding cardio is an excellent idea to help you make progress with weight loss but make sure you continue to lift weights and make sure you are eating a well balanced diet with enough protein to feed those muscles.

I recommend eating something like fruit or a small bowl of oatmeal 45 min - 1 hour prior to your morning cardio, and make sure you drink a decent amount of water as well.
