Question on belly and love handles :)

Hi all,
Just a quick question on what's the best excercise recommended for the above sections?

I started working out after seeeeeeeveral years on mid-january, and so far I have lost about 20 lbs. I'm 37, 6'1 male and now @ 185 lbs. Also I have lost 4.5 inches around my waist (belly-love handles area) While I'm happy with the results I've had in 3 months, I wonder if somebody could give me some comments and what i can do to improve this part of my routine. What I'm doing is:

Sit-ups (inclined, 10 lbs resistance)=5 sets of 25
Torso (obliques machine, 80 lbs)= 3 sets of 20
Abs crunch machine (50 lbs) = 4 sets of 20

Any help is appreciated.

Juan

You cant spot reduce, ie lose muscle just from this section, its the most common misconception with regards to training. If you want to lose weight the simplest thing to do is eat to a calorific deficit, do cardio so to increase the amount of calories used up by your body and weight train so you dont lose as much muscle during the weight loss.

With regards to training the ab region it should be done like any other muscle group. Check this website out for more info

Congrats on losing inches though!!

Thanks for the link! Well I forgot to mention that, that is not the only thing I'm doing. I'm doing 25 mins of cardio and a simple upper body routine. 5 days a week. Actually I've seen overall good results, muscle gain in arms, shoulder and back, and I don't want to lose much more weight, mybe 5-7 more lbs. Also I started an eating regimen.
What i want is to give this section a kind of priority to make sure i'm working that area the best. At the same time want to keep losing body fat.

if you're weight training, eating to a deficit and doing cardio you will lose body fat. You cant just lose it off this area, you're genes decide where its coming off next unfortunately.

Just an FYI you should always include your legs in any workout routine, and no running/cycling doesnt count

im probably 2 l8 and noone is looking @ this page NEmore. but without access 2 a gym or any machines and w/ only 2 v. light free weights and my body weight, how can i work my legs? i have a swiss ball, not that that will come in handy i guess...

and i take it that leg emphasised cardio doesn't count in any form...
