Question For All!!

im about 5'9 155 pounds. so fairly skinny still. and i was wondering if i started doing pushups (all variations) and pullups (all variations) and pretty much all the weightless workouts there are, WHAT IS MY PHYSIQUE GONNA LOOK LIKE? i mean with no weights at all. just all weightless workouts. one of my main goals for my chest is to look like bruce lee's. not too much mass but real cut. and if i should use weight for my chest to look like his, then what kind of exercises? please give feedback. thanks!!

You should firm up and get a little stronger but you won't build much muscle. Concentrate on diet if you want to look like bruce.

You can build a fair amount of strength and muscle mass with just bodyweight exercises.Look at the physiques of gymnasts (at any level, not just olympic caliber).Very few gymnasts use free weights but rely exclusively on their bodyweight. You just need to use the more demanding bodyweight exercises.

A few bodyweight exercises to include or experiment with are:

one-legged squats aka pistol squats
burpees
squat jumps
glute/ham raises
reverse hypers
pull-ups/chin-ups
dips
handstand push-ups

As with any program, exercise is just one aspect. You need to make sure you are eating and recovering correctly as well.

Thanks!

Thanks For All The Useful Information. By Any Chance Ballast, Do You Know Of Any Good Weightless Workout Routines? And Also What Is Reverse Hypers And Burpees? Gymnast Hardly Work Out With Weights? I Never Knew That. Well Like I Said Thanks For The Useful 411. Keep Posting!

Yeah, Before i did weight training i was very into body weight stuff.

here is a good tip tho,

you'll still get results from BWT but once you get past 25 try to make it harder, for chin ups try doing single handed, make sure u altrnate hands, to train for this you may need to hold on to ur wrist with the other hand.

with bwt its easy to forget your shoulders, do a handstand against the wall and sholderpress urself off the floor. (mind your head)

Physique

But How Does Body Weight Training Effect My Physique. I Mean What Will I Look Like In The Future? Will I Still Be Skinny And Cut? Or Will I Have At Least A Little Mass? The Reason Why Im Asking About Bwt Is Cause I Dont Really Have Time To Go To A Gym. And Besides I Dont Want To Get Huge. Just A Little Mass And Cut Is What I Want. Thanks Again For All The Great Input. Keep Postin!

I think being overall cut comes from being very active, say being a kickboxer or something like that and having a clean diet too. You'll have to get to a lower body fat % as well. Your triceps will get bigger from doing normal pushups. Pullups (palms toward you) do biceps, palms away do triceps and upperback. I think Bruce Lee had such a low body fat %, but high enough to still be healthy.

BTW please don't capitalize every word you write.

The best bodyweight training book I have ever read is "The Underground Guide to Warrior Fitness" by Ross Enamait

Burpees

Reverse Hypers:
Lay over a high table or bench with your legs hanging over and raise them so they are parallel to the floor while squeezing the glutes and low back muscles.

“Murph”

For time:
1 mile Run
100 Pull-ups
200 Push-ups
300 Squats
1 mile Run

In memory of Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, 29, of Patchogue, N.Y., who was killed in Afghanistan June 28th, 2005.

This workout was one of Mike’s favorites and he’d named it “Body Armor”. From here on it will be referred to as “Murph” in honor of the focused warrior and great American who wanted nothing more in life than to serve this great country and the beautiful people who make it what it is.

Partition the pull-ups, push-ups, and squats as needed. Start and finish with a mile run. If you’ve got a twenty pound vest or body armor, wear it.
