Putting on weight

Hey everyone I'm new here ^^. I'm 16. I hate the way I look and I really really really want to put on weight. I hate my stupid stick arms and stick legs and my head looks huge on my body. All my friends look totally normal and proportional, but I feel like a freak.

I know this just sounds like a stupid teen whining but this really gets me upset. It affects my social life because I get into these self-hating moods and act depressed around people.I know I shouldn't care what other people think about me (I've never been slagged for the way I look) but I can't help feeling this way. I talk to my mam about putting on weight but she says I eat enough.

I eat three meals a day and plenty of snacks between. I purposely eat sweets and fizzy drinks and I eat pasta every day. I'm 5'6 and I weigh 119 lbs.
You have no idea how much I would I appreciate tips and help. I don't even want muscle, just to look like a normal person.

Thanks for any help you can offer

If you just wanna add fat then eat more. You just have a fast metabolizm (which most ppl would kill for by the way)

Just think yourself lucky your not fat.

Eat more whole foods like bread, rice potatoes, meats etc... not sugary sweets. you may wanna gain weight but no point in being unhealthy.

look at the bright side, you'd would rather want to be underweight attempting to gain than to be overweight and trying to lose.

Thanks for writing back guys =) I've started doing what you said and stuffing myself :p It's tough but if that's what I gotta do then I'll do it.
Is there any food in particular that will build your weight fast?

I see where your coming from Xyrrus but I can only assume overweight people feel the same as me. It's so hard for me to get bigger, my 12 year old brother's arms are almost the same width as mine, and that's pretty degrading :p

Thanks for writing back again, any other tips would be much appreciated

Why do you want to build fat and not muscle?

If its for looks then you would look far far better if you gained muscle.

I think it would be easier for someone who's overweight to lose some of it, than it would be for someone who's underweight to gain it, if they just have a really high rate of metabolism.

@Luke
I'm 16 aswell. I'm 5'8" used to weigh roughly 120lbs 5 weeks ago, I started eating a lot more food (lots with high protein and a fair amount of carbs, avoided sodium and fats), and now I'm at 126 and put on a decent amount of muscle with it. I've had trouble being able to stick to a strict diet or routine because of college work interfering, so if I had more time it would probably be easy to make much quicker progress, I'm sure you could do the same.

I definetely recommend that you aim to put on muscle rather than fat, you'll look a hell of a lot better and it'll boost your confidence loads.

Besides, there are obvious health risks that come with trying to put on fat quickly. If you're having trouble gaining weight because your metabolism is fast, it might take a long while to see any physical improvements, but all the while you'll be filling the inside of your body with fats and cholesterol, which definetely isn't a good thing.

I think you should read some articles on "bulking" thats exactly what you need. Search that on T-nation and I have a bulking diet in the articles section of the forum.

Thanks again for writing back guys.

I suppose I wasn't very clear when I said I wanted to get fat. I just meant that I want to look proportional and normal, not a stick :p I didn't mean I want to be fat. I always though that you turned fat into muscle? Sorry, but I'm not really that well-educated in this area ^^;

Thanks for warning about the health-issues though :)
Protein is in like eggs and meat right? I know what you mean about school Helios, I always have something to do when I could be eating ><

I really appreciate you guys writing back to me :) And I'll check out that post jman, thanks for the tip

That's one way to do it, although it's definetely not necessary to.

Protein is in like eggs and meat right?

Yeah, Chicken, Turkey, Eggs, Tuna, Milk and Cheese are all generally high in protein. If you were going for a strict bulking diet, you would try to eat less red meats (beef, lamb, pork etc) as they contain higher amounts of fat than white meat. Although in your case it shouldn't matter, if anyone advises you not to eat red meat, that's why.

Drink lots of water as well (2.5 pints daily), it's a lot harder for your body to rapidly change unless it's fully hydrated.

Thanks so much for your advice Helios, I'll definately start drinking more water. And I'll start eating more high protein foods aswell.

Be sure to get a minimum of 2/3 your body weight in grams of carbs as well (it'll move the EAAs to your muscle).

And hit the weights if you're not.

Hey guys,

Thanks Cynic, I'll take your advice on board. I lift dumbells every second day and do sit-ups, press ups.

I've been sick for the past week and eaten next to nothing >.<
So I guess I'll have to work extra hard to get back what I lost ; ;
