Put that down, fatty!

Right, this shall be my personal space to rant in. I hate diets but after months of my grandparents saying "you're looking...healthy, Hana," and "you'd be such a pretty girl if you just dropped some weight," I'm finally ready to put the crap food down and stop being a fat pig.

I'm Hana, I'm 20 and a student so healthy eating is often put aside because it's much easier to shove a £1 pizza in the oven than bother with cooking something proper.

I'll do this little quiz thing and then I'm running (who am I kidding: walking) into town to buy some scales.

1. What is your current height and weight?
182 pounds and I'm 5'10

2. If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be?
Not really fussed about the pounds, just would like to be a comfy size 12.

3. At what weight would you like to be at four months from now?
I'm not sure what is realistic really--Maybe 140?

4. Why do you want to lose weight?
Want to feel smokin' hot again!

5. Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or reunion? If so, when is that event?
Meh, wedding is a little far off but perhaps by my 21st birthday in September!

6. What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals?
FOOD!

7. Why do you think that you now have a weight problem?
Poor self - esteem.

8. What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight?
Smaller portions. I always eat everything on my plate even if I only wanted half of it.

9. Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight?
Never tried..

10. Why do you believe that you did not lose weight or you gained the weight back?
Have never had the urge to try before.

12. Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time?
Started a few days ago on putthatdownfatty.blogspot so we shall see if I keep up with it!

13. Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook?
Very rarely. Damn student life.

14. How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go?
Not often.

15. What are your three favorite foods?
pasta
pizza
crisps

16. What are your three favorite restaurants?
Pizza places, indian restaurants.

17. What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food?
Limit portion size.
Eating more veggies
Eating more fruits

18. If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different?
I'd buy a whole new wardrobe and go kick some ass on the dance floor!

19. Do you eat when you are not hungry?
Very often

20. Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)?
Yeah, it's so bad!

21. Do you hide your food or eat in secret?
No.

22. Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed?
Nope, smoke

23. Do you eat as a reward?
Yeah, I do actually. Hadn't realised that before

Tv, yes

Pizza..Pasta. Pies, chips, small amounts of veg. Sandwiches.

26. What type of snacks do you eat?
I dont eat choc but love crisps

27. In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing?
Sweet FA. It's terrible. We've had a lot of snow here so I'm using that as an excuse ;)

28. Where do you go for exercise? A local public gym? School/work gym? n/a

29. What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise?
horse riding, swimming, walking

30. What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals?
PUT THAT DOWN FATTY! Is all over my room on bits of paper ;)

31. Do you have rewards for certain goals?
Maybe a glass of wine every few days if I stick to my goals. I'm a big drinker so that's going to be hard.

Hey Hana,

Sounds like you're well motivated and have worked out a plan. Now just to stick to it! (Easier said than done as everybody here knows!)

Good luck x

Hey,

Just want to welcome you to the forum! Good luck on your weight loss goals! We both have about the same weight to lose (mine being slightly more, lol) however, anything is possible. Just wish it was easier ;)

Thanks guys :)

Today all I've had (I woke up at 3! Stayed up far too late!!) is:

1/2 cup of pasta - 100
a tiny bit of cold sauce - around 35
salad with no dressing
10 potato wedges - 413
3 Crackers
And copious cups of tea with sweetener, no milk.

IN: Around 600

So today has been good so far :)
Been rushing around with lectures and such all day so it's 2pm and I've only had a 155cal smoothie which is good.

Why is weightwatchers food so damn expensive? Spent a small fortune in Tesco's stocking up on soups and ready meals. Going to have a salad with croutons for lunch/dinner I think and then soup the rest of the day.

Anyone have any experience with slimfast stuff? I've brought some snack bars and milkshakes but it says they are meal replacements but look so tiny! We'll see how that goes.

Also, I'm joining weight watchers tomorrow evening! My first time ever going and I feel a little..young, in all honesty. I'm only 20. I should be able to wear tiny dresses and behave like a typical student and have the confidence to meet new people and to be able to go out with my friends without feeling like the token fat girl.

Sigh, off to weigh myself now. Only been a few days but we'll see.

Hana x

Well, apparently my scales are broken (knew I should have spent more money). I weighed myself a week ago and was 13 and a half stone and according to my scale I'm now 16. Sigh. It's obviously wrong but now it's a bugger because I'll have to weight until I go to weight watchers every week to be able to know.

Guess it's best that way--otherwise I'd be compulsively weighing myself. And they'll actually use good scales. Still, very disheartening.

I'd just like to feel okay with myself again.

My drinking has always been a problem for me. Ever since I was 14-15 I've had "issues" with drinking. The word moderation means nothing to me and I'll quite easily polish off two bottles in a night every couple of days. I'm drinking around 5 bottles a week (when I can afford to) which I've worked out is about a gazillion empty calories that are making me fat and my skin bad!

I can't stop just like that. I've tried many a time and my will power sucks so instead I've just been to the shop and brought a bottle of vodka and slimline tonic. That way I can still drink (although I'm trying to cut down!) and not have to worry about using up 1000cals per bottle.

Today:

-155cal smoothie.
-one piece of weightwatchers carrot cake 63cals
-half a pack of lettuce with a few croutons and 2 slices of bacon (fat cut off). 180
-a handful of cherries 30cals
- pot of jelly - 10cals
So far, 438. Going to have some soup and a brown roll later which will be another 250 cals.

Hey,

Your daily intake seems very low... not always a good way, you can eat TOO few cals.

Frankly you're the opposite to me with the drink - I wont miss alcohol in the slightest and would rather have a bar of choc or a tasty burger!

Good luck with your first weightwatchers weigh-in. x

Yeah, I was going to say the same thing. Doctors say nothing less than 1200 without surpervision. Don't put the desire to lose weight really fast over doing it right :)

hey Hun

Congrats on starting the weight loss. 600 cal does seem unrealistically low though. You might be able to sustain it better if it's higher.

I'm a newbie too but it seems like you could exercise and cut your calories still, but not so much.

I just don't know what a good balance is :( I mean, today, I didnt get to actually eat (smoothie aside) until 4:30pm.. By which point its more dinner than lunch so I don't want to eat a lunch and a dinner.

So you think 1200 is good to aim for? It's just hard to reach that much when it's all salad's and soups. I don't know :(

Well 1200 seems like a much better idea (that's what I'm using) but it should depend on your weight loss goals and your own weight etc. there are lots of great things in the stickys. I know it is so tempting to try to eat as little as possible but you want to be able to sustain the loss more than a few weeks!.

Got my first meeting at WW in a few hours! Eeee! Hope everyone is nice :/

Anyway, today so far:

Nekkid salad: 0
4 wedges: 167 (!)
1/2 cup of pasta: 105

Going to snack on grapes and cherries until my meeting and then have a WW meal (chicken and mushroom rice type thing). Think thats 340 cals.

And then soup and such for the rest of the evening :)

Feeling good today!:hurray:

I use 1200 as a rough guide too - I'd say aiming anything under about 800 is definately too low, but I'm certainly no expert and there are others on this board who are semi-pros by now and could advise you much better if you seek out their opinion.

If you find it hard to get that many calories in just with salads and soup, eat something more substantial! Or treat yourself to some dressing on your salad or whatever.

Regarding getting the food in each day, it's a good idea to try and eat throughout the day, rather than skipping meals until the mid-afternoon. I try to get breakfast in, which I've never been good at, but I feel better for spreading my food out more evenly through the day. :) x

Thanks so much for the advice. The leader of my weight watchers group said the same :) I also weigh more than I thought I did, which kinda sucks, but it just means I have to work harder :)

Today I had:

Lunch: see above. (272)
Handful of cherries 39cals

Dinner: WW meal (which was VILE) 347 cals.

Snacks: two packets of 80 calorie WW crisps and some hummous :)

And I'm very full :D

Yay for today!

Hey,

If you're confused on how many calories to eat then you should go online and do a BMR calculation and see how much calories you need for your weight, height and and age. Then you can calculate how many calories you need depending on the energy you use (how much you workout, etc) and then subtract the calories per day you would need to do to lose 1-2 pounds per week. I used this site:

It takes you step by step to help you figure it out. That way you'll have a decent idea of what you should be eating and know definitely what's way too low.

That was SO helpful, seriously. Thank you so much :D Worked out my BMR is 1700. So to maintain my current weight I should be eating 2040 (ew) a day.

I'll aim for 1300

Yet more food for the day!:

Two packets of WW crisps.
175cal seeded roll with salad (0cals).
