pulled muscle

what is the best thing to do for a pulled muscle i pulled one on the top of my back and neck i just need some advice asap thanks

I'm no doctor, but the standard advice is RICE - see .

I tend to follow this anytime I have a muscle pull. I limit the application of ice to the first 24 hours, then use heat if necessary.

ok i hurt it sunday and i have put some heat pads and stuff like that on it the pain is going away the only thing that bothers me is being sore i was just wondering if there is anything i need to do people have been telling me to go back and lift to work it out but i dont know about that!

I can offer two observations. First, the reason for the RICE method is to get the swelling down as soon after the injury as possible. Applying heat following the onset of the injury can actually aggravate the swelling, and pain. I think you need to decide for yourself whether you're ready to work out again. It's such a common mistake (I'm guilty at times) to start too early and then either really injure yourself or just prolong the amount of time you need to lay off.

i will probably wait till like sunday or so to go back to the gym because that will be a week since it happend its still sore and hurts sometimes not going to take any chances

sounds like a smart approach, especially when the back or neck is involved. and while this might sound obvious, massage can really help. not only does it feel good(!) but it has a secondary benefit of helping blood circulation and thus healing. hope you feel better!

the only time you should work a sore muscle is under the close supervision of a physical therapist.

trying to 'work through it' is a surefire way to land yourself an appointment with a physical therapist. ;)
