when they say you need 1gram of protien to 1lb of body mass is this everything apart from bodyfat, or just lean mass excluding body water etc?

is that for some training or just regular diet? if regular diet please explain more i am a newbie.

Two answers really: if you're trying to shed fat, eat 1g per pound of lean body mass. If you're bulking, eat a gram per pound of total body weight.

tropez,
Its the guideline for ANYONE who engages in regular physical activity. America is a land filled with carbs and fats...we don't eat near enough protein as-is, let alone if you're doing any exercise.

but it can kind of use the protein over time, so 40g per meal is fine i think, i read that somewhere on this forum

At one time? I thought your body can only process about 30g of protein during 1 intake..

no not at one time, thats why you shoud be eating consistently

ah...for protein I usually just come home and have 3 eggs, 2 pieces of toast +salted butter, glass of milk or water and soemtimes both...I used to do the whole protein bar before the workout, come home have an amazingly fattening protein shake because i hated the taste (Mammoth Protein powder+milk+choclate bar for flavour+vanilla ice cream)...I miss them :(
