Professional bodybuilding just getting more disgusting...

Below is a pic from the 2004 NPC championship contest:

I hope nobody in these forums ever strives to look like one of these guys. I know the bb's of the 60's used steroids, but at least they didn't look severely obese during their competitions. To me, the guys in this picture are nothing but an insult to physical fitness, the ability of the human spirit, and bodybuilding.

doesnt interest me. give me draper, gironda, reeves, pearl, etc

bill pearl once said that the guy who wins a bodybuilding contest today is probably the one in the whole arena who is closest to death

You people are funny. What do you do for work? You have the right to say what ever you want about those guys, but you haven't the slightest idea what it takes for them to get their pro cards and be able to get paid for what they love. Are you the best in the world at what you do? They are! How many people stop and comment on how good of shape your in? Exactly!

frankly, i could care less what it takes for them to get to that level. their bodies dont impress me. like i mentioned in my earlier post, give me the guys from the old days.

that impresses me. :)

i agree.
those bodies to me seem way too overdone.
the really crazy thing is that ive seen pictures of people who are literally about 5x huger than that (not even in bodybuilding competitions).
hey i guess its all about what you like to do and how wrapped up you are in it ... but i think that most people agree that those bodies that are incredibly jackd up with muscle and 0% bodyfat is a more of an unpleasant site.
but it is just opinion ... there is no right or wrong.

i want to get a solid body, with enought mass to be noticable ... but not so much it is impossible to move. i am all about the speed/strength/flexibility just as much as the mass.

but to each their own. I dont mind these huge guys... there needs to be variety anyways. :)

Like with the morbidly obese, the morbidly fit lose a part of their human appearence. They cease looking like people and start looking like something... else. Maybe they are the best, and that's assuming they do not use anabolic steroids. But I certainly would not want to look like that. Maybe abear can help me out with a quote... to paraphrase one famous bodybuilder, 'The guy who wins the competition is also the closest to death.' Think about it; what if you got pnemonia and you had 6% BF? Pnemonia won't care how much you can bench.

People do stop me and comment that I'm in excellent shape. Exactly! I don't look like a juice monkey either, I'm muscular, but I don't do overdo it.

bill pearl

now he had a great physique

Being the best at taking pills, using needles, and killing my sperm was never on my list of priorities.

Don't get me wrong, I strive to be bigger and stronger. But I also strive to be heathier.

Also, I admire the sacrifice that these guys make, putting their heart and soul into bodybuilding.

But let's be honest here. What do the ladies prefer? A muscular guy who looks like a real person, or a 300 pound dude who looks like a genetic experiment? Exactly.

score: freddy-1, ronnie coleman-0.
