Precor 5.17i elliptical

Hi everyone. I'm new here and hope I'm posting this in the correct category. Due to health problems that have seriously affected my vision, I had to cancel my gym membership. The only machine I really used consistently at the gym was the Precor elliptical. I am considering purchasing the "home" version of the Precor (5.17i) elliptical. It certainly isn't cheap at $2,995 which includes shipping, delivery and install, but I tried some of the cheaper ellipticals at Sears and Academy and I guess I'm spoiled with the Precor brand. These lower end models felt, well, cheap and rinky dink and since I wil use it almost every day they probably wouldn't hold up. My questions are does anyone own one and are you happy with it? Does that price seem reasonable? I like the fact that it is a local fitness equipment company, has been in business for 25 years, and if I ever need service they are an authorized dealer. Thanks for your help.

One of the best out there, but the price does seem too high. Precor lists it on it's web site at $2799. Usually it can be had for less than what the manufacturer states the retail price is.

I called the fitness store yesterday where I saw the Precor and he said they are selling the floor model for $2600. The lowest price elliptical they have is the LifeFitness X1 5 for $2000. I didn't try the LifeFitness because I was more fixated on the Precor due to the incline feature. I may go back to the store to try the LifeFitness machine just for good measure, who knows, maybe I'll like it! Any suggestions on where to find a Precor for less than the MSRP? I've seen them on Ebay, but am wary to go that route!

I like the LifeFitness much better (I own one). I find the Precor to bouncy. The LF X15 should be $1899 or less based on their website. I don't think the incline feature is as important as the arm feature.

That seems like a lot for the LifeFitness X1.5 unless it included tax, delivery and setup. I'd suggest one of the X3.x series if you want a LifeFitness. They have better bearings in them (same bearings as the commercial units and the X9i.) The X1.5 and X5 have cheaper bearings.

I bought the X3.0 6 weeks ago for $2099 + tax and it's been great. It's really easy to put together yourself but it's a damn heavy box and there's a lot of packaging to throw away afterwards.

Thank you for responding Midlifecrisis and Boba001. Re: the prices, it includes shipping and installation, but not tax. Boba001, where did you buy your Lifefitness X3.0? That sounds like an excellent price!

It was at a local LA Gym Equipment here in Southern California... they're the only authorized dealers in my area that sell LifeFitness. Setup/delivery would have been like $250 more but I live 80 miles from their store. It was a piece of cake to setup on my own though. The only hard part was getting it into my house since it's a really bulky 350+ lb. box.
