post workout?

I've been reading that directly after wieght training is the best time to refuel muscles with glucose, protien, and other nutrients. Most sites recommend protien powder or a post work out shake like CELL-TECH but I dont want to take any supplements except for a daily vitamin. I drink a gatorade directly after working out. But I was wondering is there some type of food i can eat or natural shake I can make to improve my results? Or should I even worry about post workout intake?

What are your goals? If your trying to build muscle, a protein shake is recommended because of the sheer amount of protein you need. It is possible to get the protein you need from whole foods, but its more convienent to mix up a shake and drink it.

gatorade is great after a workout because it refills glycogen reserves...gatorade and protein is even better. do not buy cell tech if you decide to buy protein. it is a big time ripoff. you can find protein for much, much cheaper.

The best thing to eat after lifting is Whey protein powder and carbs - the whey is good because the body absorbs it quickly. If you want to gain muscle, I would recommend it. It's not a big deal - whey is like a leftover after the processing of dairy - it's not some fabricated, totally unnatural produc.t

the whey/sugar deal pwo was overblown. milk, oats, fruit, gatorade, white rice, white potatoes, chicken and the other stuff freddy mentioned will get the job done. ;)

In the meal immediately following your workout carbs are more important than protein (not to say protein isn't important). You can get enough protein through milk. 16-24 oz. should be fine. About an hour after that eat another meal with protein and carbs. I prefer to use protein powders but it's not a necessity by any stretch.

Post-workout is extremely important. The powdered gatorade is preferred over the already made gatorade because of the high fructose corn syrup. You could always buy yourself some BCAAs, protein powder, maltodextrin, and glucose and mix them together.

I tried this today.

1/2 cup fat free cottage cheese
one 6oz. can of white tuna in water
and a gatorade

50.5 grams of protien
21 grams of carbs
2.5 grams of fat
Is that enough?

does gatorade powder have as much glucose and stuff in it as regular gatorade?

1 scoop of powered gatorade is around 16 carbs if i remember correctly. i use to do scoops with my protein plus a banana. now i have a big tub of dextrose instead of the gatorade. :)

Im 220lbs how many carbs should i eat PWO?
can I just drink more gatorade or should I get it from another sorce?
is 50 grams of protien good?
