Hey all!

Well, its about that time in my life that I start to get serious about my health and well being. I look forward to comments, critiques and I'm pretty much open to anything. So feel free to lay it on me because i'm not sensitive and I enjoy constructive criticism.

A little about myself:
I'm 26 years of age and I've always been "big" kid. I am 6'5 and currently 355lbs (i plan to take care of this with some help from you guys). My goal is to get to 280lbs. Why 280? I picked that number because I feel it is definitely an attainable goal. I don't plan on stopping but i would like to get there and then start lifting again. All my life I've been extremely athletic. Ive played varsity baseball and football in high school and I boxed for my local PAL for about 2 years. I was in great shape! It all went down hill in college. My "new" friends were extremely inactive and not the type to shoot hoops or play a game of tackle football but would rather go eat or stay in and play some video games. I also discovered money. Work is my life and I love to treat myself to the finer things.

In 2006, I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma and went to an unhealthy 260 lbs. I was depressed and very sick. I ate twice a week if that because I just couldn't eat. Not to make this a pity story at all! I am healthy now and in full remission so its time to do work.

So why have I decided to register and take this seriously?:
I've lurked around a lot of health and fitness forums but I liked the info and the people on this one the most. My main problem is motivation and consistency. I am the culprit of yoyo dieting. I know....it sucks and is so bad for you. So why now? Its come to a point that now that i'm getting older and my body is feeling it. My knees hurt when I sit for a long period of time (video games are a hell of a drug), i feel like crap and my looks are starting to look even more crappier. ITS TIME FOR CHANGE!!!!!

I stole this questionnaire from CABBIES diary (thx Cab:coolgleamA:):

What is your current height and weight?
6'5 355lbs

If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be?
280lbs. However I wont stop but I do plan on putting on a lot of muscle.(i need to relive high school!!!)

At what weight would you like to be at four months from now?
320lbs if i had to be somewhat realistic. More weight lost is always welcomed :)

Why do you want to lose weight?

Health, my knees, i feel embarrassed when I don't fit in an airline seat (only the exit row of alitalia WTF!!!! Other American airlines im good haha) and not to be superficial but i'd like to know I still got it!

Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or reunion?
I recently got married but i'm lucky to have a wife that loves me for who I am so it wasn't crucial to lose is for the wedding.

What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals?
In the business I'm in I strive for results and I want instant gratification. This was my biggest deterrent to continue with my program. I realize as maturity kicked in that it wont happen over night and I have to accept and work hard.

Why do you think that you now have a weight problem?
My knees, and the foot doctor told me my feet are not looking like a 26yr olds feet. I go to my oncologist every 3 months so one of the pre-physicals is getting weighed in. I would like to show them I mean business! (they are like family)

What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight?

Walking and jogging CONSISTENTLY 5 times a week minimum id like to see maybe even twice a day! PORTION CONTROL! I'm Italian...I can eat!

Why do you believe that you did not lose weight or you gained the weight back?
Discouraged when I didn't see results, i got easily distracted by peers, I ate out a lot and not the good stuff......

What, if anything, has not worked for you in the past in helping you to lose weight? Why do you think it did not work?
I really never payed attention to a diet but once upon a time long ago I was extremely active and very athletic.

Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time?
I am open to it. I have a lifestyle where I'm always on the go so it might be an obstacle to keep track. I figured by cutting out the "bad" stuff, that would help in itself.

Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook?

I was blessed to have a wife that loves to cook. She helps me big time and give me hope for success because if I was by myself this would not happen. Me and McDonald would be family.

How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go?
I go out about twice a week to restaurants. I want to cut back but also don't want to punish myself. I work hard and I like to play hard.

What are your three favorite foods?
Italian, Chinese, mexican, greek, whatever. I'll pretty much eat anything! It doesn't help that I live near NYC. :)

What are your three favorite restaurants?
Peniche, Lazy Boy, Buffalo Wild Wings, Diner

What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food?
Stop when I'm satisfied and not when I'm about to explode.

If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different?

WOW! Talk about instant gratification!!!! I would definitely do my best to maintain and I would join every possible athletic team as well as box and MMA.

Do you eat when you are not hungry?
I snack when I'm bored usually sugar free ice pops, beef jerky (sooo much sodium :()

Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)?
Sadly, when I eat dinner.....I EAT DINNER.

Do you hide your food or eat in secret?
Absolutely not. I only care about what someone thinks if they're paying my bills. I'll eat stuff right in front of you!! (I do take into consideration what you guys say...that's why I'm here)

Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed?
Nah, mostly unhealthy when I'm bored.

Do you eat as a reward?
Define reward.....I guess no.

Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer?
AHHH you're in my head!!!!!!!!STOP!!!! :)

What do you normally eat for a meal?
Breakfast: granola bar, if I have time a bowl of cereal (honey nut cheerios w/ 1%)
What type of snacks do you eat?
Chips. I love salt. "Would you like some sushi with your soysauce?" That bad...

In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing?
Walk/jog once a day 5 times a week. I will gradually introduce myself to 2 times a day 5 times a week. When It gets warmer, I like to mountain bike my local trail.

Where do you go for exercise? A local public gym? School/work gym? Home?
I walk/jog a local track, the town, where ever. I use the elliptical at the gym when its bad out.

What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise?
Tackle football (i don't do flag)Basketball, Biking. I like going to the driving range to take out some aggression. The NYC Happy Gilmore :)

What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals?
The goal is to stay consistent. I cant fall off no matter what even if I don't like the visual results. Its a must because health is now coming into play. I'm not getting any younger.

Do you have rewards for certain goals?
When I hit my goal definitely a night on the town, another trip back to the Caribbean, joining a local sports club (basketball, softball)

Here's me!
A photochop from one of my skinny friends...gotta love the motivation......:ack2:

Hey there!

Welcome...it looks like you have set a very achievable first goal..good on you! Can't wait to read about all your progress!:seeya:

Dude, It all sounds good so far, but I'mma go nuts if I gotta keep calling you pizzywizzy... and there aint no way to shorten it and have it come out sounding good ya know... Piz? Wiz? PW maybe...lol

Ahh what the hell, I stole the questionnaire from someone else too.

Other people here from the north east, even near you. Not too many men on this forum though (never a bad thing, IMO :biggrinjester:). Feel free to come on over and visit my place too sometime.

sweet thanks guys. Pizz is fine Cab :)

So, the diet started yesterday as well as the walking/jogging. I did about 10 laps which according to the track is about 2 miles. I also went with the wife at night around town for about an hour (track had ice, fat guy+ice = no buenos)

breakfast consisted of 2 granola bars.

Missed lunch due to the busyness at work. I was able to have some no salt or butter microwaveable popcorn. That sucked.

Dinner (before 8pm) was turkey w/ low fat lacey swiss on whole grain wheat w/ mustard lettuce, 2 half pickles and 10 of these awesome backed pita chips (100 calories for every 10 i believe) followed by a ton of water. I use the water as a filler through out my day to control my boredom cravings. I even like to drink flavorless seltzer with a piece of lemon.

Then I went for the hour walk with the wife.

I'll be honest guys, this really blows but i will continue. Ive noticed my head during the day was about to explode (no lunch i think contributed to that) and I can sometimes get a little irritable. I got to buy a couple of packs of gum because i know its all in my head. Also, my stomach is making all these gargling noises...

To start of my day this morning i had my bowl of cereal and a tangerine. Then I got a call from my friend to help him pick up something down in Brooklyn and he'll treat to lunch. I already told him no because I aint doing all this for nothing. Peer pressure is a bit*h!!! Wish me luck as I know the temptation will be there but I just can't. Working hard, sticking to the plan is a must. NO PRISONERS!!

Hey, Pizz. Nice to meet you.

sup! Likewise!

So after a long day with the skinny friends I "somewhat" resisted the temptation to eat bad stuff and went a different route.

They ordered gyro's which looked fu*king delicious but i had 6 pieces of skewered chicken breast grilled, with a side of cucumber, tomato, onions and humas salad with a little oil and vinegar. I had half a pita and dipped into a small portion of lentil soup followed by 3 Poland spring bottles (my filler).

Wife made dinner which consists of grilled shrimp with a side of mixed vegetables (steamed) and some whole wheat pasta. Yummo!:drool5:

I'll try and see how the weather is in a little (started to have snow mixed with freezing rain) and make my trek to the gym for an hour of elliptical and tread mill action.

Today, I wasn't as lightheaded and irritable. I was a little more tolerable after i told my friends "I aint eating that crap!" They are starting to see i mean business. My legs are a little sore today but it feels great to have some "good" soreness if you will.

Yup ice storms have been sucking so far this winter. I'm a masshole so I get mostly the same shit weather you get.

Nice job on the food, menu sounds top notch. make it healthy and tasty. I see Trops stopped in, a fellow New Yorker (well state anyway).

Welcome and good luck. The food you are eating sounds great, just watch your calories and make sure you are eating enough. Sounds odd but it's very important.

We won't hold it against you that you are from New York. Just kidding of course. Stay motivated and you can do this.

Matt

Yeah Matt, he already made a comment about my Patriots shirt in my picture thread...

Hopefully Pizz isn't a Jets fan...:smilielol5:

Haha thanks guys!

Weather sucks, ice sucks, winter sucks!

I just like to bust chops with the whole NY vs. New England rivalry. Sooo many people get really into it like the last time I was up in Maine, the police office asked me to take my Yankees hat of because "he didnt want any problems". Thats just nuts! I'm the last person to cause controversy but whatever. Love to my peeps in the New England area! It's all good!
I decided today to throw a snack into the mix. I had a meeting today and I didnt feel like ruining the good streak I have going so I had:

1 low fat blueberry yogurt (60 cal)
1 tangerine

I felt a lot better than my first 2 days so I think I'm going to start to throw a small snack into the mix. My end goal is to consume less than 2000 cal daily.

Lunch: Large container of salad with grilled chicken breast, carrots, chick peas about 2 spoon fulls, cucumbers and low fat balsamic vinegar followed by about 2 liters of water. I sprinkled a little flax seed on top and I didnt even taste it which is great.

The meeting sucked because they had dunkin donuts for breakfast and they had my favorite strawberry frosted with sprinkles............I drank 2 bottles of water and a piece of eclipse gum and called it a day. It has got to be the worst feeling seeing these guys eat all this great tasting stuff right in front of you!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHH

Srsly! Dont even get me started about the Jets. I was actually a little hopeful but leave it to Favre to throw his FAIL MARY'S..the dude is done stick a fork in him.......They really disappointed me....but then again I shouldve known:toetap05:

Thanks for the feed back guys!:cheers2:

Hey, Pizz. Getting things started is one of the toughest things. I've found that a good breakfast goes a long way. I'll usually eat 2-3 servings of a high protein/ high fiber cereal with skim plus milk, and that will carry me through even if doughnuts show their face. I've also made it a habit of going to sleep hungry. That way I'll wake up and dive into the cereal first thing.

damn.....the sleeping hungry is tough. I load up on a ton of water before bed.

the diet is starting to become routine which is a GREAT thing ( i know, im still in the first week :()

Breakfast: I woke up a little later so had myself a granola bar

Snack 1 (3 hrs later): Blueberry low fat yogurt, granola bar

Lunch: Roast beef, turkey breast, low fat lacey swiss on whole wheat with lettuce and low fat dijon mustard

Snack 2 (2 hours later): Snack size ziplock of crunchy broccoli and this bangin' super low fat, lowcal ranch dip shot glass size (i gotta get the name frome wifey)

Dinner: Split chicken breast with the same bread as my sandwich for lunch but the wife got innovative and made it into croutons and made a light stuffing with crab meat (no butters or oils) sprinkled with paprika and ground black pepper, steamed broccoli and a serving spoon of couscous. I was still "hungry" after so I killed a bottle of seltzer.

Dessert: Sugar free lemon jello made with lemon lime seltzer with a dab of no sugar, low fat "fool" whip (10 cal per table spoon)

I'm done for tonight and I came well under my 2000 cal daily goal.....going to sleep feeling accomplished tonight.
