PinkyDolly's Diary

Christmas decorations before Halloween???

kaitie....we dun reali celebrate halloween here. if the locals celebrate, it's prob cos it's CLUBBING time!
well i suppose the expats here do celebrate tho not all of them. Funny tho...i tot halloween is supposed to be a ghost festival or something? hahaha.
we call it the 'ang mo' (westerners) ghost festival here.

Oh we dun hv halloween deco or big fanciful party here. The supermarkets do sell some sweets n chocolates, masks, pumpkins.... but i think it's mainly for the expats who live here.
I had a great weekend! Had plenty of time to myself. Tho it was hard keeping my hands off the fridge. I think i opened and closed the fridge at least 30 times yesterday!

Hey Pinky---Mmm, I can't wait for Christmas
I still can't believe how ugly the stretch of road looked last nite. They hang large lanterns and phoenix on the trees! and dressed the tree trunks in red n white mushroom prints! I thought maybe it's gonna be a Smurf theme but I dun see any around?!??!?!? Will post a pic if i go down there again. Yeeeks!

But anyway i am so lookin forward to christmas. the gatherings and the time together with frends, the carols, the turkeys, the church service, the reflection of the meaning of Christmas and the presents (though mine is always 2-in-1 present becos i was born 3 days after Christmas!!!!). Pls don't ever give birth to a baby near Christmas. The child will be traumatised and have bad birthday memories when he grows up becos presents are always combined into one!

yo mike, yeap christmas deco up usually in end oct....hopefully there will be more nicer ones put up nearer christmas.

I blew it this 2 days.
Last nite was so tired preparing flowers for frend's wedding. Alot of things unprepared and we ended staying up till 1am at the bridegroom's place to prepare. Had my dinner late at 12MN!!!! We were like wolves devouring the fried rice and seafood rice noodles which the maid went to buy for us.

Slept a few hours last nite. This morning woke up at 6am to wash up, doll up and make my way to bride's place. The groom is supposed to fetch the bride with his brothers and make our way to the church for mass since they r catholics.
Tradition is to make it difficult for the bridegroom n entourage to enter the house. We the sisters make them eat bread(healthy wholewheat ones!:p )...imagine this...spread with tons of WASABI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOAH! In one mouthful, the brothers were in tears and sqeezing their eyes shut within a minute hahahha. Evil Schemers we the gals were! I prepared the right amt too! Half a slice for each brother. Folded it into sq so they knew not what they were in for! Hahahahhaha.....;)

Next they bargained for the 'right price' to enter the gates. I asked for 10 of $10, 3 of $2 and 4 of $2. Total $168 which symbolizes good luck in Cantonese dialect. They were stunned. But time was short so i had to let them in with the red packet dat the groom prepared.

Then came the exciting part....and the final stage of getting into the bride's room. The bridegroom knelt outside her bedroom door. He asked "Can u open the door?" I said no. hahaha. Took out the script for him to recite in MANDARIN! Ohahahahaha.....though he is a Chinese, his mandarin sucks like hell. He couldn't even read properly the word 'pretty' written in chinese which a 7 yr old kid had no problem with. We had a good time digging at him. Anyway one bro came to the rescue (dats wat bros are for!). Told the groom to recite after him lol:p . What i wrote is that she is his sunshine, the sunflower in his life. he'll take care of her forever. When she is tired, he'll do laundry, iron the clothes, sweep the floor, cook for her....etc. To which he yelled "GOT MAID WHAT!" oh my....i almost fainted when i heard dat lol:p

Anyway to cut the story short, the door opened and he went in, lifted her veil, kissed her, took photos and off we went to church for the ceremony n tea reception. It was a fun time at her place all in all. But one bro had tummy upset a short while later, presumed to be the evil wasabi he endured. hahahha.

I overate today. Lunch i had yummy teriyaki chicken, noodles, fried fish batter in sweet thai chili sauce n lemon honey, fried cereal prawns, broccoli, and lots of delicious chocolate fondue (only left with wafer sticks and pineapples by the time i finished my meal). I had second round of almost everything! OMG....

If this wasnt enough i went home and slept....woke up at 8pm to rush off to another dinner at frend's place. Had lots of black pepper crabs, chili crabs and fruits (guava n grapes) for dessert. Some guy came after dinner and laid a tub of japanese jellies /jellos on the table! And they were the size of a chicken pie! My tummy is so full now i am so afraid i hv put on 5kg within 2 days! URGH! and there's the wedding dinner tmr nite! OOPS OOPS OOPS!

but i am so sleepy i'll get to bed now. Tok again in the morning. Nite everyone.

hmm...all that food sounds delicious, but in some moderation probably would have made it not so bad =-)

but wow, that whole ceremony process sounds awsome! I love it, wish i could agonize the groom like that at more weddings!

WOW! That food sounds soooooooo good! My soup just doesn't sound as appetizing anymore. LOL Glad you had fun, now it's time to get back to work girlie!

I think every groom should be made to recite this!! And maybe delete the part about "when she is tired"!!!:D :D

That's too hysterical. I cracked up envisioning the wasabi tears!!:p

Pinkydolly i'm always amazed at the self control you have! Wish i could be more like you :)

Weddings are such sweet occasions :) I was smiling as i read your entry!

audrey...weddings are sweet only if you are the bride.:p But anyway the MIL drove my frend almost crazy so i really hope things will go well when she moves in to stay with them. The couple isn't gettin a new flat as his father is immobile. It was a sad sight really when we saw the father in the wheelchair being fed by the maid at the reception becos he couldn't go up the stage where both families of the couple had their table set for lunch.

tammy n mike....i am hvg fear abt the dinner tonite. Did i mention that it's a 8-course sitdown Chinese dinner????!??!?!

I canNOT believe they put their table up on the stage where the groom's father couldn't go! I am in shock.

Have a good rest of the week Pinky!:)
