Phoenyx's Final 10 & Journey to Fitness

And in the 'being slim and in good shape can make your life a lot more enjoyable' department...

What started out as a kinda crappy Friday evening turned in to a great weekend.

Friday night I had such an irritating drive home I either wanted to get drunk or get into a fight. Got in the door found out my husband forgot to set up the Truck race to record, which just added to my irritation. Fortunately they replayed it later and I was able to catch it. So my husband and I ended up going out for sushi and then to Kohl's because they had a sale going on until midnight and I wanted to pick up a couple pairs of jeans. I decided to try on several pairs of jeans in different styles. Grabbed some 8s, 9s, 10s and an 11 besides the 501s.

What really made my night was the fact I can get in to a size 8 now. That means I am quite literally down to the same pants size if not a bit smaller than high school.

Definitely a milestone day in the weight loss department for me. First realizing you hit the 80 pound mark, then realizing you can fit in a smaller pants size than high school.

The 501s, they're a strange creature all by themselves. I remember when they first came out, and they had some in women's sizes too. Now they are just in men's. Levi's 501s used to just come in 'shrink to fit' and you'd wash them in hot water until they reached the desired size. Now you can get them preshrunk. But each pair is very different. I tried on a 31" waist pair that fit better than the 32s. The 30s are still to small... but I ended up coming home with another pair of the 32", and a 31". When I tried them on they were like being embraced by an old friend. I know that sounds weird. But 501s have been my favorite since they came out. I'm just glad they're still around, and now I'm slim enough to enjoy them.

Came home after that, watched one hell of a Truck race. The Championship was literally decided on the last lap of the last race. Exciting!

Saturday morning I had to go to school, and I had started back on TIG welding. The TIG booths are very tiny, and last time I had sat in one was before I had taken off all the weight. Boy, those booths are a lot bigger now. I could move around in one a lot easier since I didn't have my ass hitting the wall every time I turned around. They're still a bit of a challenge to move around in... but its a lot easier.

The rest of Saturday was pretty mellow. In the afternoon I headed to the salon my mom works out of to get the red refreshed in my hair. Came home, decided I was too wiped out from the week to do anything else so had dinner, watched the Nationwide Series race (and Clint Bowyer winning the Championship!) then crashed.

Sunday's been both busy and mellow. In the morning I helped my husband do some work on his '68 Chevy 4x4 pickup. I got the fun job of replacing the spark plugs. Now, anybody that's done any work on cars knows how fun that can be on a car that is relatively low to the ground. With a big ol' pickup, its not that simple. Best way to work is to literally be sitting in the engine compartment, leaning on/sitting on any solid surface you can without dislodging hoses, wires, etc., and then figure out how you are going to get the spark plugs out with tools that barely fit in the areas you need to get to the plugs. In every car I know of there's at least one spark plug that is damn near impossible to get to. The one at the rear of the motor on the passenger's side was a true bitch! I must have spent a good 20 minutes trying to get that freaking thing off there. But I didn't give up, even when D offered to try to get it out for me, and I got it out of there!

I am finding myself very grateful for the inspiration to take yoga right now... it was a LOT easier contorting, bending and moving around inside the engine compartment of that truck than it would have been in times past.

Watched the season finale race of the Sprint Cup series, then did an hour of yoga.

So I'm a little sore from all the bending and twisting, but I know I wouldn't have been able to get seated comfortably in the engine compartment of that truck 80 pounds ago, much less contort like I did to get to the spark plugs.

Now I need to get my butt to bed because its back to work in the Morning.

Hope I'm not too sore . I've got my MMA class Monday night.

Phew, what a weekend!

Well done on your awesome NSVs (Non-scale victories)!!! :hurray:

Thanks!

I'm a bit sore in the legs this morning, but my lower back, which is what i was really worried about with the 'auto yoga' (as my husband calls it) and the contortions involved in climbing around in an engine.

Of course there were other activities involved that could have attributed to that as well. :reddevil:

Post #241 just made me smile to high heaven.

Nothing is as rewarding as re-entering a pair of 'funkyfied Levi's' after years of absence.

*claps*

Heh... I'm needing to get into the closet in my back room to see if I still have this one pair from my high school & college days. I did a lot of artwork on them, so I think I hung on to them. It'd be a riot to wear 'em again just for the fun of it.

I'm kicking myself yet again for getting rid of that leather skirt. :banghead::banghead:

Anybody get the number of that truck?

Ow. Just... ow. I guess I overdid it on Sunday after all. Compound that with my MMA class and getting flung around by my sparring partner, a 16 year old kid who is on his high school wrestling team... no wonder I feel like I've been dragged behind a truck. :ack2:

My left hamstring feels like I overstretched it too. Good thing I'm not a horse, somebody would've shot me. :nopity:

Ah well, I'm still gonna do the lunchtime walk today. Get the muscles loosened back up. Its going to be another lovely day today in the low 70s, and sunny so at least it won't be a miserable cold one.

Last night was the end of that session of MMA. Next week starts a new one, and my instructor has already told us we'll be working on escrima again. I can't wait! :hurray:

That's so awesome about the 80 lbs and the size 8! :beerchug: You're so active, you're a great role model, Phoenyx :)

Thank you! I'm still pretty stoked about the size 8... considering its been a lot of years since I've been there.

Speaking of role models... I don't know if I'd be able to keep up with you. :jump:

Oh I'm no role model!!!

Role models don't stay out partying with Burning Man people until 3am ;) Well, that's disputable I guess....

I don't see why not!

So, I may have been one hurting bird yesterday... but I feel pretty good today. Aside from a little tension soreness in my shoulders, which is normal these days, everthing else is good. Even did some yoga this morning with no problem.

Wow, my recovery time has really shortened. That's cool!

Things are so whacked at work right now. I feel like a pawn in a really sadistic game of Chess. :banghead:

Ah well, back to getting the photos of the wine bottles I just took pretty for the magazine.

:bigear: Did you say "wine"?

Glad your recovery was swift, you were HURTIN'!

Yeah, wine.

I work for a company that publishes a regional magazine for a couple areas, one of them being the Napa Sonoma area. The other is for a part of CoCo County. Wine gets covered in the magazine from time to time. And I've been doing some of the product photography. Shot some beer a while back, and I've shot wine before. Shot more today.

Bummer is my lighting equipment is a bit limited, so I have to do a lot of Photoshop to get them looking good some times.

The guy that owns the company has his own vineyard too.

And yeah, I'm pretty surprised at the swift recovery time. Normally I'd be hurting for a few days at least.

I'm not complaining, at all.

Awesome, you're getting STRONGER!!! :boxing:

Nice--and I hear you. Seems to me, from hunting and reading reviews, that ya need to spend at least a grand to get a decent camera :(

oh wow. This diary is gonna blow up big, now !! Sommelier Central !! CG is the WLF expert on vinos. I'm just the forum expert drunk. And now, an ad agent.

This is big.

:cheers2:

I think it really depends on what kind of pictures you want to take. If you are taking snapshots for posting, then you really can get some good photos out of a cheaper camera. If you are doing prints, well, then you need to cough up some money.

Yeah, I'd LOVE To get the Canon EOS 50D... but the basic kit (body + 1 general lens) is about $1500. Body alone is $1200. But the 40D is so nice... I want the newer one for me. Just no $$ for it right now.

First, congrats on the milestones! Very, very awesome. I'm happy for ya. :)

Secondly, what's the deal with your shoulders? Just a little muscle soreness or do you have more going on? I could send you a great rotator cuff program you can do with ease at home if you're interested.

Thank you!

I would be interested in the rotator cuff program, because I do get a 'click' occasionally when I move a certain way. That's probably left over from doing something stupid in my early 20s. Plus being on the computer all the time, and the extensive image retouching I do, even with a digital tablet and trying to keep the placement as ergonomic as possible... I can still get a lot of soreness in the RC area. Thanks again!

The tension soreness is actually in my trapezius or the underlying muscles... you know, that area where rebar is often found between the neck and shoulder? Just need a good massage that lasts about a week... I'll be fine. :smilielol5:

Okay so I'm a day late and maybe $0.50 short (de-valued dollar, economy sucks). but I read your post about changing sparkplugs and laughed. Actually my issue isn't usually one of reach, at 6' 8" I can usually get to all those little bastards, but my back usually feels like somebody beat me with a baseball bat the next day.

BTW, love to see car buffs here. Specially hot rods etc. Love to see pics of the truck.
