Hi Everyone.

I have been reading the forum for a couple of weeks, and now I have decided to start a diary.

My name is Steve and I am 32 years old.
I have been the typical yo-yo dieter in the past as I have always been big from childhood. I had quite a lot of illness when I was young and hence I did'nt do much exercise and did not eat too well. That;s no excuse now so its time to sort myself out for good.
In the past I have dieted and exercied for about 3 months, then slowly sliped back to my old habbits and put the weight back on.
My worst habbit is eating when I am bored or when watching TV in the evenings/weekends.
One thing I have tried to do is to make myself busier during those "high risk" times so that I am not tempted to eat. (Part of this plan is coming onto this forum as while I am posting, I am not tempted to eat:rotflmao: ).

I started loosing weight again in January this year when we did a Tub Club at work. We all paid fines if we did not loose each week and the less you lost at the end the more you had to pay. The money then went to charity.
This was great motivation to get started, but when it ended in April, I was determined to keep going.

So far I have lost about 40lbs and I am now at 102kg's (about 220lbs). I started at 119kg's and my first goal was to get under 16stone which is about 101.1kg's so I am nearly there :jump: . My next goal will then be to get under 15 stone. Don't really have a long term goal as I want to see what I look like as I loose the weight. (I have quite a big frame, so don't want to look weird !).
Once I get to a reasonable weight I want to start adding muscle definition.

I have changed the way I eat to make it much more healthy and I try to exercise (weights and cardio) at least 5 times a week.

Anyway, that is enough for today. I should be going running tomorrow, so I will let you know how I get on.

All the best.
Steve.

Hi,

Just got back from a 4k run. I did 2k steady state and then did 500m reps.

Now I am eating my dinner which is a nice home made bowl of cottage pie.

So far today I have had:

6:45 Mug of Apple Juice, Multivitamin, 500mg Vitamin C
8:15 2 x Low fat Yougart.
10:30 Multi-grain bar - we have had quite a few birthdays in work this week, and people have been bringing in cakes. I have been resisting and giving them stick for not having a healthy option. Now today another birthday and the guy brought me in this bar. It still had 200 calories in it, but it was a really nice thought for him to think of me, so I ate it! Tasted really good aswell:)
13:00 Went running
14:30 Lunch - Cottage pie.

This afternoon I have some grapes and some mixed nuts for a snack, and tonight I will probably just have toast or something.
Thats it for today.
Thanks for reading.

welcome to your diary/journal - nice to see you starting one.. can't wait to read more from you.

you're off to a great start with your weight loss - 40lbs is awesome - congrats on how far you've come.

Enjoy your stay and much success on getting to where you want to be

Hey Penfold!! Thanks for your comments in my journal.

It's nice to see that you have lost 40lbs and are getting in some good exercise. Welcome to the forum. I look forward to seeing you reach your weight loss goals!!!

I love people from other countries, I love the vocabulary. What is cottage pie??? Do tell.

hi penfold (steve) from a fellow plymothian(though im not originally from round yere). well done on your weight loss so far. do you go to a gym and if so have you any recommendations? i am looking to start after my holiday, but am on a fairly tight budget. slim
MissJellyBelly cottage/ shepherds pie is cooked lamb/beef mince with gravy, mashed potato on top and baked in the oven until the mash is crispy and brown :drooling: one of my faves. serve with veg

Hi Everyone.

Thanks for your replies and words of support, it really is appreciated.

Thanks for explaining the cottage pie for me slimby. The only other thing I do is to actually put the veg inside the pie before it goes in the oven. I normally put peas and carrots in it, but I especially like it when I can put home grown courgette inside. Nothing quite like home grown veg.

As for the gym, I am currently a member at the civil service club as I also use the club for other sports and socialising.

I used to be a member of McCauley's at Dinaton (near Lee Mill) but found it a bit too far off the beaten track for me. The civil service may be closing in September so I will be looking again. I have heard there is a gym up at the Christian Mill Business park, but I have not had a look yet.

Anyway, thanks to evryone for posting in my diary.

I am off to a BBQ tonight, so will have to watch out for the food and alcohol:doh:

Hi,

Been an interesting weekend!
Went to a BBQ on Friday and drank far too much!
I managed to avoid too much food, but not so well on the drink. I had three cans of cider and too many vodka and diet coke's to count. Stayed at a freinds house for the night, then voulunteered to help out with some decorating, so ended up staying for the whole weekend.
This worked out quite well as I was busy all weekend, so lots of exercise and not too much food.

Now today (Monday) is a bank holiday so no work :jump:
This has meant that I have eaten a bit too much.
Breakfast started well with porridge (oats) made with skimmed milk. Unfortunately, two snacks and luch later, and I have eated too much. Still have tea to go, so I am goining to have roast chicken and veg.
I have done some DIY of my own, but a bit fed up of it now after two and a half days solid.
Back to work and exercise tomorrow, so should be OK.

Thats it for today.

Thanks for poping by.

Hey there thanks for visiting my diary :) ah BBQs, I have not yet managed to successfully stick to a diet while at a BBQ lol. And yes it's the alcohol that does it for me too! If it's a 'everyone bring something' affair I always take some nice lean sausages and stuff. Mmm, shepard's pie, I havnt had that in ages. Well you've done really well so far, good luck reaching the rest of your goals!

Steve:
Congratulations on your 40 lps lost!! thats great :)
oh and don t worry we all slip from time to time...just remember to get back on track as soon as you possibly can :D
Have a great day! :D and keep the hard work

Hi,

Thanks for all the replies :)

Been a bad week so far.
Doing well during the day, but then evenings I just have not been able to stop eating
On top of that I seem to have a problem with my knee. I am fine when I walk in a straight line, but when I change direction or walk down stairs it hurts down the side of my knee. Not really sure but think it may be the knee ligament (spelling?). With my knee like that I have not been running or to the gym for a whole week.
Going to be busy tomorrow night, so should be OK tomorrow.
Get this week out the way and then get back on it. I will not fall off the wagon know.

Anyway, speak to you all soon.
Cheers.

hey steve thanks for posting :D
Im sorry about your knee, I hope you get better soon:D I know its hard when that happens but it happens so hopefully you ll be sound and strong again :D
Have a great day
and remember to have a big smile on your face --->:D ;)

Hi,

Well the good news is, I am still loosing weight. :jump:
I lost another 1kg (about 2lbs) last week which I am really pleased about.
The nutrition (not going to call it a diet as it is a life change thing) is going well and I am finding it easier and easier to stick to it.
The bad news is that I went running yesterday and after about 1 mile my knee started palying up again. I had to walk most of the way back.
I was really enjoying the running and seeing big improvements. Oh well.
I have managed to do a few upper body weight exercises, and that combined with watching what I eat, hopefully I can keep loosing.

Hope everyone is well.
Cheers.

Great job on losing the weight!!! Sorry to hear about your knee. I have a bum knee too, I have to be very careful when I exercise. I find a brace helps me with support. Keep doing your thing!!!

Hi,

Well I am still loosing weight:jump:
Just goes to show what you can do by managing your calorie intake.
I used to think I had to do loads of exercise to loose weight, but at the moment I have a bad knee, so I can't exercise, but by managing my intake (to about 1800 kcal's per day) I am still loosing an average of 2lb's a week.

In total I have now lost over 22kg's (nearly 50 lbs) and am well below the 100kg mark:rotflmao:

I was a bit concerned that my knee would put me back, but things are still looking good, so I will have to keep it going.

I am looking soo much better and this has given me loads more confidence.
I met someone new at the weekend and she is lovely, so we'll see how it goes, but I feel much more confident. Still have a way to go, but we are getting there.

Anyway, enough for now.

Cheers.
