Ow, my knees!

that's very odd. romanian deadlifts aren't a quad exercise, and although your knees will flex a bit, it shouldn't put much stress on em.

you're not locking the knees out at the top of the movement are you? that's no desirable and could explain knee problems.

My pain is anytime pressure hits my knees so any exercise where i have to bend down, kills me but yet.... i can usually do that machine where you sit and push the weight down to an almost straight position and back with legs.. *sorry* about not being technical :)

It sounds like your movement/form is incorrect, not the squats. You should be leading the motion with the hips, NOT the knees, which follow the movement created by the hip flexion. Most people when they squat bend at the knees first, and this produces a great deal of force through the knee which can cause a number of problems (particularly patelar tendinitis or meniscus tearing). Be very cautious with your movements, but if you learn to squat properly, they will be the best things that you can do for your knee health...
