One Pickle @ a Time - my journey

Okay been awhile since I've been on the forum. Still having this 'migraine' - I find it odd that just one day you wake up and all of a sudden develop a constant, permenant pain in your head.

MRI of my brain is fine - supposedly. MRI of my cervical spine does not reveal anything. I've had several weeks (not to mention several hundreds of dollars) of chiro appointments.

I've tried most migraine medicines ... relpax, midrin, lortab etc ... Amazingly, none of those 'strong' meds work but 1000-1500 mg of naproxen does.

Today I got a shot of toradol in my rear and am to follow up the next five days with 3 pills per day of toradol plus 2 topamax pills at night.

My physiologist at the chiro feels the muscles in my neck/head, think to yourself hairline and then three inches up (yes up not down) and all of those muscles in his words are 'deadly tight' on my left side ... So it is only a guess that THAT is what is causing the head/temple pain on the left side that makes me just want to well - chop my head off.

Oh, yeah and I've decided to leave my job and move to new york from kansas. lol This wont happen until end of September, going to take me some time to close up some projects with my office and make arrangements.

Weight loss - nadda. Weight gain - nadda. I'm holding even - which is probably the best I can hope for. I have been cheating - but cheating healthy. Okay, the pint of mint chip ice cream wasn't a healthy cheat but I needed it - it helped with the pain - yeah that's it.

Okay, I'm going off to pray for a medicated sleep.

Talk to you all later. I haven't visited anyone's journal, so if you're visiting mine - I hope you're doing good, not getting too hot in the heat, drinking your water and allowing yourself to have some good summer fun.

I'm sorry to hear that you have been having such a rough time. Well done for maintaining!!!! That is a real achievement :) I hope that things improve soon, hopefully now that they think they know what the cause is, they can do something to help the migraine.

Keep positive, and keep trucking on ;)

Wow moving to new york - that's exciting? You know where to yet?

Migraines suck the big one and suck the life out of you-- sorry you're going thru that... I know when I get them - the last thing i want to see is food, so Iguess there's some good in them... :( Hopefully you've got dark cool rooms you can hibernate in while the drugs kick in...

Trout - Thanks, I can't really handle them either hence much medication

Mrs. B - I think we have found the cause, all of these soo terribly tight muscles in my neck and head but they just wont loosen up for anything. They are pinching on nerves that may be causing the migraine. Thanks for the encouragement.

Mal - I'll be moving to NYC - Manhattan. These 'migraines' do suck the life out of you - I wish mine just lasted for a few hours or a few days but this pain has decided to sit it out until, I'm guessing, they get the muscles in my neck and head to loosen up. But Topamax is a medicine that is used for migraines and aids in weight loss - so double score I guess.

Good Luck with your move Epi and I hope you get some relief soon from your pain. No weight gain is great--especially when your Dr. has you on the ole Ice Cream for Pain Diet.

Okay I'm back from a long break. I think my health issues with my migraines and neck pain may be under control. I also moved from Kansas to NYC. My partner and I finally decided that this traveling every weekend to be with each other was getting insane. We've been doing it for too many years. One of us had to decide to leave our career. So I decided to, except when I turned in notice my employer asked if I would continue to work for them remotely.

So I'm all moved and settled and now working from home with vpn access to my office which is just really crazy!

Since I moved, i'm no longer seeing a bariactrics doctor so I have abandoned my very low calorie and high protein diet. I'm going with something a bit more moderate until I reconnect with a new doctor who will supervise the VLC plan.

After much research on the new MyPyrimid, American Obesity Assocation and the American Diabetes Association Web sites, I have decided on:

1200 calories
120 protein
>30 fat (saturated or hydrogenated)
>100 carbs per day (bulk in whole foods - not processed)

Hi Epi,
It's good to see you back and posting!
Lots of changes for you (I don't think you're in Kansas anymore!)

Glad to hear your migranes are under control.
