On my way to 63kgs

Sounds like you have a really close family. I'm a bit jealous. My family is so screwed up that I've had to put a bit of distance between myself and most of them in self defence. I have 2 sisters and 3 brothers. Plus a half brother I've never met. But I only stay close to my mom and one sister.

Too bad we can't pick our relatives, right? Hope you enjoy yours!

I'm lucky enough to have a really close family. One of my sisters is my best friend and I don't remember any member of the family ever falling out with another family member. My mum was the sweetest nicest person in the world and kept us all together. None of us would ever argue so as not to upset her and now that she isn't here we tend to carry on that way although one of my sisters really frustrates the rest of us. I realize how uncommon it is and how lucky we are as people are usually surprised about how well we all get on. I even keep inlaws. 3 of my best friends are my brothers ex.-wife and the 2 sisters of my first husband. :D even though the 2 sisters don't even talk to each other.

WOW! That IS impressive! I can't even remember all my siblings' ex-spouses! I was shopping one day and the lady ahead of me in the check out line kept looking at me, and in not such a nice way. She looked familiar to me, but I couldn't remember where I knew her from. Finally I said "Excuse me, do I know you?" She gave me a dirty look and said "Yes, I used to be married to your brother." :blush5: Then I made it worse by saying "Oh Shelly! You look so different! How have you been?" She glared at me and thru clenched teeth said "It's SHERRY!" then turned around and refused to speak to me or look at me again!

In my defense I'd only met her the one time on the day of their wedding and they were divorced within 3 months! When my siblings have 2 to 4 spouses each, plus significant others in between that they may or may not have had children with I can't be expected to keep up and remember them all! :willy_nilly:

Hey Eycky!

I need your currie recipe!

Apparently I read currie is big in the UK for some reason....and I would like to at least try to make it some day. Around here, if it doesn't have pasta in it, good luck finding a restaurant that has it. I have never seen it.

Hope your doin ok....and hope you have a great getaway!

Take care!

Hi Val, Your family sounds lovely and your relationship with them one to have as an ideal to aspire to. Wow! A 22km walk. I'm impressed! I love the way exercise makes you feel so good about everything else and any worries fade into the background. You have really changed your life around Val and are inspiring people left, right & centre (& down under!) xo Cate

Long walks by the ocean in Mallorca...sounds like heaven on earth. There's nothing better for the body and soul than exercising while absorbing beauty from nature and just being outdoors. Even just reading about your walks makes me feel all peaceful and zen.

I've really enjoyed reading this diary!

hey Val, sounds like you just keep going and going...running or walking...those kilometers just zooom by!

Family are so important aren't they? I had a really really close family as my two aunts (mum's sisters) married two brothers, so all of the children apart from me shared the same grandparents (but I was kind of included along with them all) so we always spent christmas and all of the birthdays together as one huge family. Its gone a bit mad in the last few years since my uncle died - I've realised what a lynchpin for the family he must have been because no-one rowed before then but there's been loads of upsets since. I stay clear of it all though (as do my parents) and just be neutral and friends with everyone.

Hmmm, Flumes wants a curry recipe...I think you should teach him how to cook a vindaloo!!!

Well it's my turn to be ill. I've had a bad throat and temperature for 2 days now so am dosing myself up so that I will be alright to start my 2 days away tomorrow afternoon. I feel like crap at the moment but most people that have had the same only felt really bad for a couple of days.
I'll answer everybody tomorrow as I'm off to get an early night now. xxx

Eycky I'm so sorry you're sick. I really hope you are well again before your get-away. It would be the pits to have to scale back your plans or cancel because you were ill.

Sending good health vibes your way!

Hi Val, just stopping in to say Hi, and wishing you a quick recovery. The most
important tactic in life is "Further" and as sad as it is, you are probably the
only person, from everyone that reads it, that will understand it.

But, then again, I ended up in this forum to meet you, and it has been a real
pleasure for me. With my new approach of writing less, I will say good-bye,
and till next time!

Hi everybody, Firstly thanks for all your messages. Nice to see you back Alex and great to see you over here Lacardwell :)
We've just had a fantastic couple of days away. We drove up to Puerto Pollensa on Saturday night and luckily I was feeling better by then. We went for a walk into town and had a meal and then came back and watched the hotel entertainment.
On Sunday we got up had breakfast and went for a walk from one end of the huge bay to the other. When we got to the other end to the town of Alcudia there was a big fiesta on. It was great and we spent a couple of hours wandering around craft markets, and watching exhibitions of stunt planes, horses, dogs, stunt motorbikes etc etc. Then we walked all the way back. 6 hours altogether with only a 10 minute toilet break in a bar. When we got back we went swimming and then chilled out round the pool. I wore a pedometor and by the end of the day we had clocked up 39000 steps.:D
This morning when we got up we went to the hotel gym and I ran while Marc used the bike. Then we lazed around in the jaccuzi, swam and then lazed around in another jaccuzi. Later we checked out of the hotel and went to visit some ruins which involved climbing 300 steps and visited 3 other towns. Then had a meal and were now back home.
We ate what we wanted for one meal a day but ate cereals and fruit for the rest of the day. Had a great time and it felt as though we were there a week as we did so much. It was just what I needed to get me back into exercising and to disconnect from home for a while.
My sister had quite a bad time of it with my dad while we were gone which I was sorry about but it has at least made the family realize what I have to deal with all the time.
Well time to go and catch up with a few diaries and see what you have all been up to. :)

Hi, you've made the first step by joining these forums and of course I'd love to be able to help you as will others here.
I have been on and off diets for most of my adult life but just seemed to end up fatter each time. I think that the main thing that is working for me now is the fact that I don't see it as a diet but as a total commitment to a lifestyle change in both the way I eat and exercise. You musn't obsess about your weight and food but just try and eat healthily and smaller portions most of the time. I find it much easier at my age than my 20 year old daughter does but she has managed to lose about 10 kgs even though she faces a lot more temptations than I do because of her social life.
If you binge one day then don't beat yourself up about it and just get straight back to healthy eating. We all mess up sometimes but just don't let it take you straight back to your old ways.
Start your own diary in the diary section as it keeps you accountable and you will make friends here. There's lots of young girls here that you will be able to relate to. Read through some of the other diaries and comment in them and you will learn a lot and start having a lot of different people to help you.
It's also important to get as active as you can. My daughter lost a lot of her weight by going dancing as she isn't really in to going to the gym or doing sports.
Let me know when you start a diary incase I miss it. If you ask any questions in your diary me or somebody else will come along and answer it.
Good luck and looking forward to reading about the new you :)

Hi Val, Your couple of days away sounds blissful & just the break you needed. You sound inspired again & have obviously re-charged your batteries. I'm glad you recovered quickly-your immune system must be strong. It is remarkable that you are able to cope so well with the responsibilities that you have looking after your father. I personally admire you because of that alone. Good for you! :beating:
Thanks for visiting my diary. It can be almost lonely over there sometimes. Luckily I'm partially immune to it & am used to feeling like I'm chatting away to no-one in particular. It's good therapy.
Cheers, Cate.

Oh my.... Your time away with your hubby sounds heavenly! I'm glad it gave you such a recharge to your life!

I'm really glad you had such a great time Ecky, and that you are feeling better after getting ill!!

It is rotten that your sister had her hands full with your dad, but like you say, probably quite important that others realise what you do on a day to day basis and hopefully they'll help you out a bit more so that you can get a break when you need it.

Thanks for all your comments.
Had a bad night last night. Our favourite cat came home really ill. The vet didn't really expect her to last the night although she couldn't find out exactly what was wrong with her after giving her a scan, xray, blood test and all sorts of other tests. She seems a little better this morning and has stopped crying now and her body temperature which was dangerously low, seems to be a bit more stable after having her wrapped up in blankets with hot water bottles all night. We'll have to see what the vet says in an hours time when the surgery opens.
On a better note. My mini holiday has definitely re-energized me as yestereday I went out for a walk/run for an hour and a half and ate really well. I planned to go to the gym today but will probably not go as I don't want to leave the cat.
PS just got back from vets. Her temperature has gone back to over 38º from 35.2 that she had last night and she seems a lot happier. The vet thinks that she was hit by a car and was in shock but she can't find any sign of any really major injuries so hopefully she'll be better in a few days. She even took a few wobbly steps this morning.

It's so hard when the furry members of our family are hurt or sick because they can't tell you exactly what's wrong.

Way to go on the hour and a half run/walk!!! You go girl!!!
