Omega's journey

Being 49 years old does kind of put a dampener on some things. The joy of being young!

Being able to wear clothes – even after you have put on a couple of pounds – that you couldn’t think of wearing a couple of months ago is a very good feeling though! When I master the art of turning the clock back and get the location right I will be all set.

You are 49?!?!?! Why did I never take note of that? You're amazing!!! :beating:

I'm so glad you're enjoying the new body :)

Thanks for visiting.

Stacy
Thanks. I hope that you are having a brilliant Wednesday too.

Valerie
Age is a frightening thing. I always thought that I would feel differently at this age - but the fact is that I feel just the same as always - just get a shock when I think that people might think that I look middle-aged - or worse - expect me to act like I am middle-aged.

This country is fixated on age. I refuse to freak out as I get older. Pardon me, but fuck everyone when it comes to the ageists. We are more righteous with each new experience.

I agree. Some people are born old. They were middle aged as children - I remember them at school. I dont plan on ever getting old if I can help it.

It is all an attitude of mind.

Yup! "Old" is good sometimes. When I see "old" people who are truly happy and have everything, I get a little envious. My winery boss's parents are "old" and they still ride a motorcycle together to Alaska sometimes. GEEZ!

My parents are really old. He will be 91 this year, she will be 86. They have been together since she was 18. They got married in 1942.

They are happy as long as they have each other.

They say that there are things that they do not like about getting old - but it certainly beats the alternative.

Thankfully they are as sharp mentally as ever (he can still do the crossword puzzle in the broadsheet newspaper that he reads). They are able to still live in the big old house that they moved into in 1960. A lot of people their age are stuck in some kind of old people's home.

Up until four years ago they were still spending four weeks a year in Greece. In recent years they have decided that travelling abroad is no longer for them.

Hi Margaret :)

Thanx for posting nice holiday messages in my diary - that was very sweet! I apologise for not dropping by sooner but i have been pretty ill. I was in hospital for a bit with salmonella - def a very effective weight loss tool! So the thank you is a little belated im afraid!

For the record - it is the first time that I have been this weight since 1986. That is 22 years.

I just started on this forum last week, weighing in at my alltime high and wanting to GET RID OF IT! So, I've been on this site alot reading through other peoples diaries. Your success is so awesome!

Such a great inspiration to know that it CAN happen.

Congratulations on your success and good luck with those additional 5 pounds!!!

Thanks

I totally agree with you about age being a state of mind. Look at Dara Torres the olympic swimmer. At age 41 she has a body most 20yr olds would kill for, and she's breaking world records. She is faster now than she was in her 20s. Look at Jack LaLanne. He's in his 90s and could shit all over men half his age in most physical competitions. Of course, both of them work VERY hard to keep their bodies like that. But still, if one stays active and takes decent care of oneself, they need not necessarily become "old." :)

Sorry the scale has crept up due to the monthly friend. But this, too, shall pass and you'll be back in the 120s again. :)

Hey M!
Guess what!?!?!
I just took a quick glance at your ticker and realized that you have now lost the amount that I want to be! LOL
You are such an inspiration to so many people on here.
Myself included!

I am on my period too!!! hahaha

Word up, Kimberly has it right. When I run races I notice that some of the fastest women are in their 40s. I want to improve with age and get my body to be amazing. It's a goal.

Take care! :hug2:

You're parents sound amazing, Marg. They're the staple of how every couple should be decades after they're joined in Holy Matrimony. I can only hope that my future husband and I still even *like* each other after so many years of marriage.

You know, I knew you were mature, but I thought younger than 49. In the back of my mind, I remember you writing about how you are pushing fifty, but I suppose reality didn't set in until now.

Past eighteen, age is only a number in my mind. According to the law, you're still a minor under that age, but when you reach it and become responsible for yourself, than I believe the world is one's to conquer.

I can say for certain Marg that though you're forty-nine according to your social security statements and birth certificate, your soul is definitely much younger. That's why you're so unbelievably fun to know. You've millions of experiences to make us aware of to wisen ourselves, but at the same time, you can roll with the big dogs. It's why you're just...made of awesome.

Big hugs to you, honey!!! ((((Big hugs))))

Thanks for visiting. My weight is still sky high so I am trying to ignore it.

My food has been good and my exercise has been business as usual - so things are fine really. Friday was a less than fun day - I had root canal work in the morning and in the afternoon the doctor told me that my cholesterol is too low! That was a turn around. She normally tells people that their cholesterol is too high. Especially people that are or have recently been big.

Other high lights of the last few days include the fact that I picked a load of blackberries from the hedgerow while out walking - and filled four 1litre containers. I had the containers with me because I picked a load of blackberries when out walking there the week before. Guess what fruit is going into a lot of my sugar free jellies at the minute?

I bought a couple of nice new dresses the other day. They were very inexpensive - and Rod likes them. I think that they will be very nice for my holidays.

Rod and I both had our hair cut yesterday. The sister of our sister-in-law came to the house and cut our hair. Naturally this meant that we had to tidy up a bit.

I have just spent this afternoon out at the rugby - supporting my nephew. He was playing for Harlequins reserves against St Helens. He scored two tries - one of which was very impressive as be ran most of the length of the field and placed it between the posts - making it easy to convert. When we were talking to him as he came off the field - people came up and congratulated him on that try. I just hope that people that can help his career saw him. He did so well and was playing despite a shoulder injury.

My parents are sweet - in the same loveable but irritating at times way that parents so often are.

Allie
I am pleased that you had a good holiday - but sorry to hear that you have been so ill. You have a much better excuse for going missing than I have. Life getting in the way does not really compare to a need for hospitalisation.
It is good that you are recovering well. I hope that you manage to keep off the weight that you lost while ill. I have known some people manage it and others to struggle. I know that both Abbagirl and Camy have been through that challenge. My problem was the reverse in that I gained over 8 pounds when I was in hospital for 3 nights.

Thanks for your support and kind words about my success to date. It is great to hear that my experiences encourage others to believe that they are trying to do something which is indeed possible. I spent so many years coming to the erroneous conclusion that significant weightloss was pretty near impossible for me. It is an easy mindset to get into - and very destructive.

Kimberly
Now that I have come this far - I have no intention of allowing my body to deteriorate into the sad state that it was in. It still needs to be seen - how much it can be improved - but there is significant room for further improvement.

It is strange in some ways that my body got to the sad level of lack of fitness. My father was very fit in his youth. During wartime he was a para and he remained pretty fit all his working life. The week before he retired aged 62 - he completed a proper army assault course. At that time he worked for "army department" of the civil service and had been telling younger men that modern soldiers (at that time) did not need to be too fit - in his opinion. My mother was less than impressed when she heard that he had done the assault course.

It seems a long time since my low weight of last Sunday. I am keeping my ticker where it is. I see no reason to accept that water weight as being my true weight. It will take a little longer - but will come down. Then it will go up when I am on holiday - but that is another story and another problem. I dont see myself eroding through those remaining pounds too soon.

Dawn
I may have lost it - but some water weight of it is gained again. The thing about losing such a huge amount of weight - is that I couldnt possibly have done it if I had not become so incredibly massive. I am pleased if I inspire you - but can assure you that I have all the same temptations and feelings of the immensity of the task as everyone else. We really do all need each other here.

Valerie
Womanhood is such a joy at times. I hope that if you get a water retention gain - that it doesnt last to long for you.

I have no doubt that you will have a stunning body in your 40s. Running as you do - will really help to keep it right. Looking back - I realise that I became a lot less active after Rod and I got together. It was true that I loved to dance and would go out dancing a lot. There were aspects of that lifestyle that were not exactly healthy - but the fact is that if you go out dancing you can get a lot of exercise in (if you go to actually dance and not just pose). The fact is that I had a hormonal change - but I cannot help but wonder whether the effect would have been as dramatic if I had been more active. Becoming much more active at this age has made a dramatic difference in reversing the process.

I think that my parents are pretty special - but there again - I am biased!

I am pleased that I come across as younger than my actual age - because I certainly feel that way. I actually get quite a shock when I think about it. It seems almost impossible to think that I was an adult thirty years ago.

All I can say is that there is a lesson for my younger friends - that your parents may actually understand the insecurities and uncertainties of life in a way that you may think they would not. I remember looking at my parents and thinking that they would never understand some of the things that I was feeling.

I have to say that I think that you are pretty awesome yourself. It is brilliant to think that you have already accomplished something that I am so proud of having nearly accomplished. To do all that as a teenager - with all the other life challenges that being in your late teens throws up at you is truly amazing.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Don't worry about the weight at all. You still have a normal bmi even with a few lbs gained. Enjoy yourself in Greece and worry about any weight gain when you get back. When I was in Britain, I really didn't watch what I ate too much, and I only put on about 5lbs which were easily taken off upon my return.

I've been eating lots of berries lately, too. They are yummy and good for us, so why not, eh? :D

I have been spending at Tescos about £2 for a little container of berries for my jellies. Picking blackberries has been brilliant. I have been getting the equivalent quantity of eight of those little containers each week for nothing but my time - just picking them from the hedgerow. I did that each of two weeks. I have to go to the dentist in Shepperton again on Thursday (the joy!!!) and will pass the same hedgerow on the way home. If it is not raining - the temptation will be there to get some more. It is great eating food that you know is good for you and you can eat pretty much as much as you want without ill effects to the weight.

I really can see me putting on a fair bit of weight in Greece - but I am ready for it. The thing is that there are a whole load of Greek things that I only eat there - that I would feel that I was being deprived if I didnt have at all in a trip there. I really do not see me refusing them when they get offered or put in front of me.

The WW lady keeps quoting all these people that have been on holiday and actually lost weight when there. I know that I am not going to be one of those people. It seems like they increase their exercise while on holiday - I know that I am going to do less. There is no way that I can do the amount of walking that I am used to in an August on Rhodes. One of my friends put a photo of the sea on my facebook page last week with the comment that it had been 39 that day. This is not unusual there. We are talking one of the three sunniest villages on Rhodes - the furthest of the Dodecanese and basically as far as Greece goes only likely to be beaten for weather by Crete and Cyprus (which isnt standard Greece as such anyway).

These people losing weight on holiday seem to go to all-inclusive holidays and eat mainly from healthy options that are on offer. They do not seem to have more than one or two local speciality dishes and get away with trying those on a couple of days to say that they have had them - and sticking to known things.

Quite a lot of my friends happen to have restaurants, bars or hotels - so they work where they have a good kitchen. They end up working very long hours at this time of year - so you end up having to see them at work (because they are never at home). They pride themselves on both their cooking and their hospitality. I can see that I am going to be eating a lot of people's speciality dishes.

I just know that the weight will go on - but I will take it off when I get home. I am actually telling myself that the burst of eating / less exercise may do my metabolism some good and help me get off the last few pounds so my body appreciates the work when I get back on track. I dont know whether it makes any sense - but it sounds good to me. I like that theory - and would love to think that it will make maintenance easier too!

I think your attitude will award you a FUNtastis holiday!!!

I think losing while on holiday is just showing off, pfft! :smilielol5:

You know that whatever weight you put on you will be able to lose soon after you come home.

Whatever you do gain, you will still have lost a HUGE amount of weight and its unlikely anyone will even notice a small gain. You don't get to see your friends in Greece that often, and the food there is so good it would be unfair to not have it and then feel like you where missing out!
Just have a fabulous holiday, enjoy every minute of it and get back to weight loss when you come home =D

Maybe it'll be so hot in Greece that you'll sweat it all off. :biggrinjester:

I think it'll definitely increase your metabolism so that when you return, any gains will quickly come off along with the rest of the weight you want to lose.
