Omega's journey

135.8! Wow, Margaret. That's so incredible. You are less than half the size you used to be and only a small toddler away from your goal.

Truly inspiring and amazing. We're all lucky you are here to show us that this CAN be done.

Oooo, I on the other hand, looooove strength training. It's so methodical, and doable (and honestly, I'm not crazy about getting out of breath... yet I run run... where's the sense?)

These days when I go to the gym, I run first, as it is my least favourite part of the workout. Then I go and do my weights and enjoy the rest! Must say... I think a runners high blind-sided me the other day... will try to make it happen again! :)

Really well done on all your efforts Margaret, I'm sure you'll feel even better when you can get a variety of exercise in again!

Hi Margaret! It's been a while since I've been on here......reached my goal of 116 a month ago and have been maintaining it and doing lots of weights---feels good! I popped in to check up on everyone and am hoping I come back on here more often. I must say I am amazed----you're already midway into the 130s! I can't believe how much weight you have lost and how far you have come! I am glad you will be restarting the weights again. Cardio is great for getting the inches/fat off, but nothing makes me feel better than doing weights and toning my arms and legs! That is exciting that you are getting a treadmill soon....I'm sure it'll make exercising much better when the weather is not so perfect. Anyway, just wanted to say hi and congratulations on coming so far--you truly are an inspiration!

Hey gratz on getting a treadmill soon. I have the fold up kind and it shoves out of the way really easily. In fact in the past too easy....until recently I wasn't using it other than as an occasional towel rack :X But now that I'm movitated I'm SO glad I got it.

Thanks for visiting.

Thanks for the good luck wish. I have been doing my arm exercises for the second day today. I have confidence that it will work. I dont want to get to be one of those middle-aged women with bat-wings / bingo-wings.

Amber
I really cannot believe that this time it is actually working. You cannot imagine how much I wish that I had managed to do it when I was your age. It is great when people tell me that I can stop now if I want to. I really fancy being able to finally wear my wedding ring though. After 22 years of marriage - it would be nice.

AnkeI have to admit that aerobics are my favourite. I do like the opportunity to think things through that I get when I am walking. It is like a voucher for a two hour long daydream. It can be quite surprising what pops into your head.

Becky
You have every right to be pleased. You are getting some great weight losses.

Priti
Congratulations. :hurray: :hurray: :hurray:
You disappear and the first that I hear is that you have not only got to goal but that you have managed successfully to maintain it for a month.

The treadmill is due to be delivered / installed on Friday. I am really looking forward to it's arrival. I would love to think that Rod will use it. At the minute the weather here is absolutely lovely so on days like today I will prefer to walk outside. Rod however never wants to walk outside but thinks that he will use the treadmill. It will really come into its own for me when it rains. I do a world-famous impression of a drowned rat. It is something about being determined to do my walk whatever the weather and then telling the forum all about it.

Now that you are motivated I know that you are going to get great use out of your treadmill.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Hey Margaret, came by to say hi and see how it's going. Yay your treadmill comes tomorrow, no more walks in the rain! Although I sometimes like those if it's still warm...and not big annoying drops hitting me in the forehead. I know..I'm weird, lol. So hey, thanks so much for all your posts and help and I really appreciated you having my back in that other thread earlier today :)
Before I saw that I was beatin myself up a little for something that happened SEVEN years ago, lol. Then after your post I was like "YEA...what SHE said..SO THERE!" lol. Ok not that bad, lol. But anyway its funny how for not being a complete dummy I sure have some dumb and negative thoughts and I'm constantly having to redirect them. Guess what I think and how I feel about it are two different things. Ok I'm rambling now but again, thanks for all your support, you always seem to know just the right time to pop up :)

:hurray:Hi Margaret! Good to see that you continue moving right along with your weight loss. How wonderful that you will now have a treadmill! I think that you and your DH will both use it and reap the benefits. I absolutely LOVE having one, and it has made such a difference in my own health!

As ever, keep up the great work!

Thanks for visiting. The treadmill came today and it has been installed. It completely fills what should be the dining area of out lounge/diner. It is the only room downstairs other than a small kitchen and the treadmill is heavy and needs to be on the ground floor. We can have no dining table so we will be eating in front of the tv from now on in. The table is in the garage and the dining chairs were past their best so will be taking a trip to the dump.

Lisa
The weather was glorious today so I did my walking outside - having only a little walk on the treadmill.

As far as the other thread goes - I always think that it is funny - whenever someone says things like "not to sound rude" they know that they are about to sound rude, and whenever they say "I dont mean you specifically" they pretty much sound as personal as you can get. I know much of what you have dealt with and are dealing with and was not going to stay quiet. Hopefully Heidi will not find that she has a medical condition that makes her life more difficult. We only find out about these things later after we have already concluded that we are going mad. Then we have to convince ourselves that something that seems to be impossible for us - is not impossible really - just very very difficult.

Janice
I know how much you swear by your treadmill. Our living room now contains a beautiful treadmill - just like the ones in gyms. It means that our decor is eccentric - but it should be worth it. Rod actually wanted to walk on it when he got in from work and has got his pedometer up to 10,000 steps for I think the second time this year. At this rate I will be swearing by it myself. I would love him to rescue his health as we have done ours!

Take care

Woohoo!! Congrats on getting the treadmill!! No more drowned rat impressions! And please tell Rod that I am quite proud of him for getting in so many steps. What was the mileage on the treadmill? I'm sure it was quite a bit.

You are so sweet to say such nice things about me. :blush5: I have missed you as well. It was so good to hang out with you and Rod. I cannot believe we forgot about dinner! H and I managed to get the tube back to the hotel without incident, but passed no places to get food. Luckily H had been pilfering from the hotel's breakfast, so we had two servings of weetabix, some cheese, pretzels (ours), a few pieces of fruit, and I had one of those fiber bars left..lol. We managed to fill ourselves up before going to bed. I hope you and Rod got a bite to eat when you got home.

I know you've had good weather today b/c I've been watching Wimbledon. :D

Sunbury is such a quaint town. I can see why you like living there. It is very pretty.

I saw Margaret's "skimpy" shorts, and I can assure you there was no Daisy Duke impression going on..lol Actually, she was wearing a total hoochie mama halter top as well. :smilielol5:

Wow I couldn't have said that better if I tried. So how come even though I got told I'm finally not crazy, I still think I am? lol It's a daily battle to not beat myself up over the weight and sometimes I feel like I'm using the p.c.o.s. as an excuse. Old ways of thinking die hard I guess.

So if you don't mind me asking, do you eat any fruit in your diet? I've been retaining water anyway so I probably should have waited to try this but yesterday I added strawberries to our diet. I felt more like I was cheating than when we actually DID the other night....like I was trying to get away with something. And today I want sweets but no clue if I would have anyway. I sure hope this thing goes away when I lose weight. It's easy to know whats unhealthy and cut out fast food. But then when I have to look at healthy food and go "ok what of THIS can I have?"....what a pain in the butt, lol. So like I said I probably should have waited and tested my sugar levels as well for like a week before since I haven't been in the longest time. But I've been stressed and I thought adding something new would keep me from going off on a eating parade.

Anyway enough about me, lol. Gratz on your treadmill! After you made the decor comment I got this mental image of a whole line of treadmill accessories and decor for fancy homes, lol. Maybe we should start a line of bells and whistles for exercise equipment, lmao.

Congrats on getting the treadmill Margaret! I have an elliptical in my bedroom and it really helps when you're short on time or the weather is bad. For one thing, you dont even have to get dressed! I usually go on mine (excuse the visual) in a tank top (what you call a vest) and underpants. As I start to heat up (and mind you the machine is directly in front of the air conditioner haha), I throw off the shirt and use the thing almost nude LOL. I even use my slippers, which are these very comfy sandal type slides made by Nike, for my workouts. Ya dont even have to waste time putting sneakers on! LOL

That is great how Rod got his steps up on the TM. Sounds like maybe he's not ready for all the outdoors stuff, but if he's hanging around just watching TV anyway, why not hop on the thing! Well let's hope he starts to think that way..

:hurray:Hurray for your new treadmill - and your beloved getting on it! Sounds like it is paying for itself already.

Wishing you many happy miles,
Janice

Thanks for visiting. I am blessing the move that got us to buy this treadmill. It has been very useful already - despite the fact that the weather is currently really nice. We were expecting a parcel to be delivered on Saturday morning, and Saturday is when we tend to go grocery shopping. Last Saturday when we had a parcel delivered I stayed home while Rod went to Tescos with the shopping list - then I set off on my walk after Rod got home so was later setting off and later finishing the walk. This Saturday - I got on the treadmill. I was able to pause it when the parcel came and by the time Rod got home I had done 4 miles. It has been quite illuminating. It is always possible that I am walking quicker because I am not carrying a bag on my back - but I find that I am comfortable to do my walk at 3.4 miles per hour - which is quicker than I thought that I would do for a 7 mile walk.

I didnt mention it but we got a real bargain with the treadmill. John Lewis was selling them at £1495. We knew that we would have to pay a lot as we needed one robust enough for us both to use. John Lewis was supposed to ask the suppliers some questions and phone us back and never did. It was only when we got sick of waiting and were searching on the internet for supplier info to get the answers that we saw that the suppliers did the reconditioned ones. We ordered what was supposed to be a reconditioned one for £815 including some extra bits. When it came - they hadnt had a reconditioned one - so they sent us a brand new one!!!

Kimberly
Rod got up to 10,000 steps again Saturday. Naturally he did part of it with general walking around and part on the treadmill. He tells me that his pedometer says that he did between 3 and 4 miles (his pedometer displays in kilometers and he doesnt store it in a spreadsheet like I do so I cannot be more accurate).

I am pleased that you managed to find something to eat that night. I felt quite guilty for not thinking and giving you the fiber one bars back again so that you would at least have those. We threw something together to eat quite quickly on getting in - but it is so much easier when you have a stocked kitchen to hit.

The weather is indeed really nice.

We have got used to living round here. It has many advantages - near Rod's family, good motorway links, accessible for central London and the airport. Despite all that there is a much less urban feel to the place than you get further into London. That is not to say that I wouldnt happily leave the place to live closer to my family and friends. I cannot see us leaving to live somewhere else down south though!

Whilst my clothes are not really that skimpy in general terms - they are a whole lot skimpier than I was wearing when I was big!!!

Now you know why the next 10 pages of my diary will probably be food lists!!!!

Lisa
I think that the notion that we use PCOS as an excuse has it's root in the disbelief that you see in some people's face's when you mention how easily and quickly we can put weight on when for some reason our bodies go into "pad out mode". The fact that people hurl out statistics that say that one in ten women have PCOS doesnt help either. As I understand it that is to say that they are carriers of PCOS which may go on to develop as we understand it. All that I can say is that I can assure anyone - if one in ten women went through what I have been through - there would be documentaries about it every week on the television the way that there were about AIDS in the mid 1980s.

I consider myself admonished by Kimberly (BikiniBound) for stopping posting my diary page for each day. Up until page 152 of this diary (from the start) I posted my food intake for every day. I stopped posting because there was some problems on the forum with the way that everything was displayed - and I couldnt do a copy paste from my records like usual. The most recent day that I posted was 5th June. I suppose that I really should catch up.

The high-lights are that eat a whole ton of fruit and vegetables. Probably more than just about anyone else on this forum. I was never told not to - and I had some abdominal pains last year that were unexplained and put down to constipation. Initially I tried dry fruit and then moved over to a lot of fresh fruit because of the high calorie content of dry fruit. I was pleased because the pains stopped so kept it up religiously. It finally transpired that a/ my bowel was continually moving around (I had an emergency operation to fix it in April) and b/ I have gallstones. It is quite possible that the abdominal pains were linked to one or both of these facts. I am now so used to eating a ton of fruit and it is working well for both my sweet tooth and keeping me feeling full that I cannot see a reason to change things now.

As I mentioned to you earlier - I eat no bread, rice or pasta - except in moments of extreme weakness in incidents that I regret. I get no ready meals and my pre-processed food is pretty much limited to baked beans - which I eat quite regularly because they are so good for our cholesterol. I look out for the healthy ones (checking content of things like calories, sodium, sugar) and have come to no harm from them.

I axed cheese completely from my diet because I was gaining weight whenever I ate cheese. I have only recently reintroduced cottage cheese and quark - and have had no ill effects from those two cheeses.

I was recently persuaded to reintroduce baked potatoes - and have been known to have an occasional piece or two of boiled potato with no ill effect (other than the higher calories compared to other veg).

I would say - if no doctor has specifically told you to avoid fruit - feel free to give it a go and see how it goes for you. As you will see (If you jump back a few pages or if I catch up which I should do) I have a ton of fruit. Obviously take it easy and check out things a bit at a time as we are all different. I am a firm believer in taking the message from our own bodies and capturing in a spreadsheet. That is how I decided that cheese had to be axed for me.

I presume from your alias that you are a fan of sugar free jelly. I eat it all the time these days. I currently am making up at least two pints a day. Sometimes I invent my own flavours as the range is too limited for my liking. Yesterday I made one from low calorie no added sugar apple squash and gelatine and I threw in some grapes. It was really yummy.

Claudia
I can just picture you on your elliptical. You give further proof that we are divided by a common language. I am so pleased that you explained that a tank top is a vest. For those of us in England of my age group - a tank top will always be a brightly coloured sleeveless top (always either knitted or crocheted) that was classed as fashionable for a while back in the early 1970s.

Rod did his steps in his carpet slippers - but the fact is that the steps got done.

It will certainly be convenient to get our exercise in wearing whatever we feel comfortable in.

I am certainly blessing the moment that we decided to buy the treadmill. It is certainly working out well so far.

Janice
We love our treadmill already. Other people have a lounge diner. We have a lounge gym.

Take care

Margaret

I am so pleased to hear about Rod using the treadmill! Its important to spend the money (good job getting a new one for half price!) on a good piece of exercise equipment (if you can scrape it together of course) otherwise they feel so rickety and are so hard to use it seems people end up throwing their clothes over them in an effort to hide them while making use of them some how.. The other day I noticed one of my co-workers had this cheap stepper thingy without even any handlbars in his office. I stepped on it and it was so unpleasant and impossible to use that I could see why it was collecting dust. I paid around the same for my elliptical and it is so smooth and sturdy, just like the ones at the gym.

I must admit that over the years we have wasted money on the cheap and cheerful end of the fitness equipment spectrum as various weight loss attempts occurred and died. They have gathered dust, eventually moved to the garage to gather cobwebs and finally sent to the dump. I suppose you get what you pay for. We also have wasted money on expensive gym memberships that led to nothing other than unused facilities and a direct debit reducing the bank account. We rarely went after the first month of hectic activity - but generally kept on paying for the following year or more. This treadmill is just like the ones that we used to use at the gym.

Rod is feeling his calf muscles after the last few days - but got on the treadmill for a little while today. He will not get up to 10,000 steps though. I am suggesting that he builds up gradually to it - but makes sure that he does something every day.

It has rained for most of today - and it was so nice to look out of the window at 8.30am and see people with umbrellas and hear the rain - and just decide to do the walk on the treadmill.

I am now going to play catch-up with my food lists. Different format - but the key info is there. The last one was on page 152 of the diary. This carries on from there......
