It says an awful lot about a person to be able to lose so much weight. That's a lot of strength and commitment right there. You are awesome Margaret!

Thanks Claudia. I just wish that I had a/ never put on the weight or b/ managed to lose it when I was younger.

All that I need to do is figure out how to turn back the hands of time and I'll be sorted! I'm working on that one.......

Wow, Marg. This is SO EXCITING that you can see a weight you haven't seen for TWO DECADES!! Oh wow, I'm just so uberly proud of you. You're a weight loss machine, darling. You are going through this by kicking MAJOR fat butt, and I'm so, so very inspired by you.

I'm with Blancita, it tells an awful lot about your character that you've been able to lose so much weight. Not only are you determined, you're not a quitter and you're especially an optimist. These are all very, very honorable qualities. You're an inspiration to us all, Marg. You're just amazing!

Awesome job Margaret. Your determination toward your weight loss is very impressive! I Hope your having a great day!!!

Trevor

Yes, Margaret is AWESOME--even if she's an unpatriotic Brit who hates tea. :p I will think of you everytime I swill down a cuppa this week. :D

LMAO

I see you finally caved to the call of the shreddies...lol :reddevil:

Thanks for visiting. Thanks for your congratulations Rae, Trevor, Stacy, Kimberly - I must admit that I was rather pleased at the scales today. My weight as you have probably noticed from my ticker was down again to 10st 9.8lbs which is 149.8 bringing me into the 140s. Now we all know that my weight will almost certainly be higher than that tomorrow. This doesnt matter as the territory is regained.

I have just had a handful of shreddies within the last 5 minutes and when I post this I am going to get myself another handful. They are just so yummy. I accept that this attitude will not force my weight down - but I just dont care.

I happen to very patriotic - but I do not like tea. I consider myself to be English rather than British.

Just adding my congrats to you for reaching the 140's! That is absolutely excellent.

What does your husband say about your weight loss?

What is the difference between English and British?

TTYL :)

Hi Claudia

Thanks for your congratulations. Weighing every day - I know that I will see my weight wiggle up a touch for a few days but accept this as normal.

My husband is proud of my weight loss achievement. The only problem is that it kind of puts the pressure on him to do something similar. His BMI is around 54 so he is a cuddly lad and he knows that I worry a lot about his health. He is supportive and he has made a bit of an effort over the past year and a bit which has meant that he has not put on weight. Unfortunately he is not motivated in the way that I am so he has not really lost any weight either. His father died from a heart attack due to obesity as he turned 47 so you can imagine how much I worry about him (he will be 46 in May and we have been married over 20 years).

England is the land of my birth and heritage, Britain is an amalgamation of that land and several others.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Thanks for popping by and congratulating me. I will probably try to get hubby to take a photo after I get to 147 - that is a huge milestone for me because that is when I will have lost half my starting weight. I will weigh as much as I will have lost!

You are coming up to a huge milestone yourself. It will be incredible when you have lost 100 pounds.

I have kind of the same problem with my boyfriend. He's a big guy, and I love him to death, but he has a family history, and all that, and you know what I mean. I'm trying so hard to motivate him to get fit with me, but he just doesn't want to, and it bothers me especially because he has take out food almost every day. I know it's not quite the same as you and your husband's situation, but, I can kind of relate! But keep up the good work!

Thanks for visiting LowFatMilk. It is difficult when we want our motivation to rub off on our men but they have other ideas. Dont they realise that they should happily always do everything that we ask of them?

We know from our own experiences that the motivation has to come from within - all we can do is suggest things and hope that the motivation thing hits them. The biggest thing that I learnt was to keep my weight loss project a totally different entity from his. That way - his desire to eat unhealthily or not exercise did not signal the end of my project. You would not believe the amount of projects that we started together and abandoned together over the years.

If we become as healthy as we can - we will be better able to cope if their health suffers.

For me, it feels more like a parent child relationship. Not that he's immature, but how a mother must feel when her children stray, I just want what's best for him. But, you're right. The saying "You can't help others, if you don't help yourself" comes to mind. But perhaps I got the wrong impression.

CONGRATULATIONS ON HITTING THE 140s!!!!!!!!

Hard-earned and well-deserved!! :) I am very happy for you--and will be even more pleased for you when you hit 147--which should be in the next week, knowing you. ;)

Claudia--Britain is composed of England, Scotland and Wales. So anyone from there is British. English is narrowing it down further. The UK is Britain plus Northern Ireland. In my experience, most people in the UK make a great distinction between Welsh, English, Scottish and Northern Irish--with each country thinking their people are the best. :D I remember being on a train from London with a rather rowdy group of men returning home from a footy match. When they got off, the English people sitting next to us excused their rowdiness by saying, "oh, they're Welsh," as if that explained it all. I think they wanted to make sure we knew the rowdy group weren't English. :)

Margaret--I did not mean to offend you by calling you a Brit--it is just much faster to type than "Englishwoman." ;)

Happy Friday!

I certainly sympathise with your situation. For me the relationship is not really similar to a parent / child relationship - such a relationship would imply that I believed that I could control his behaviour. Whilst I have influenced his behaviour and he now makes healthier eating choices than he was - he still has a sweet tooth and a good appetite. He tries to keep it in check and eats better than he did most days. He does however have days when he just cannot resist an arctic roll or vienetta. He also has days when he wants to eat something that I would not eat. On these days he will simply cook for himself. He prides himself on his cooking ability. We actually very rarely get take-away. Being a large person (over 350 pounds for 5ft8 height) he should be able to eat quite a lot and stay within maintenance - which is probably why he has not put on more weight.

I think that his biggest problem is that he doesnt do enough exercise. I had him nicely into the habit of walking round the block with me on an evening once or twice (about 0.6 miles a time) - but he stopped doing that a month or so ago. I would happily keep him company on any walk on an evening - but we have to walk quite slowly so the steps are not really beneficial as exercise for me. I know from my own experience that walking no matter how slowly is extremely beneficial for the morbidly obese. When I first started walking - I couldnt do anything too quickly. Walking slowly certainly helped me lose quite a lot of weight and I naturally speeded up as I got healthier. Since then he has lost the clip for his pedometer and uses that for an excuse. He was much happier to do it when he could wear his pedometer and get credit for the steps. I would let him use one of my pedometers but they do not work for him because the rolls of fat on his tummy suppresses the step counting mechanism. We are awaiting the arrival of a replacement pedometer clip. It doesnt work without it.

Walking does pose problems for him as he has acquired damage to a number of his joints. He has suffered from gout since he was in his twenties (due to a family tendency) which initially damaged toe joints. Over the years he has walked awkwardly at these times which has in turn caused damage to ankles, knees etc. His weight does not help this. This means that it is not as simple as him simply devoting as much time to walking as I do. I do however think that walking is a good start. Swimming is no good as he cannot swim.

I have no choice but to influence him as much as I can and otherwise hope that he doesnt follow too closely in his father's footsteps.
