Soup can be a good way of turning bits that could be thrown away into a healthy snack. The more health-conscious I become - the more I hate to throw away the water that I have used to boil vegetables. In addition - I believe in big portions so always peel a lot of veg. This can mean that we end up with a little left over in the pan. Chop in some extra veg - like the stuff that could do with being used up soon - and you have a decent start to a pan of soup.

It is thirty years since I was at the weight that I have set as my goal weight - so I might have the experience but it certainly is a very distant memory.

I hope that you all enjoy the walk. You seem to get such a lot of difficult weather - that it is good that you get an opportunity to get out. I am sure that your kids will thank you later for encouraging them to be active - we know how much it can help weight control. Walking this morning was pleasant - but this afternoon was wet. We had a very enjoyable lunch out with friends - so I wouldnt be surprised if my weight goes up a little tomorrow.

Kimberly

10st 11.2lbs i.e. 151.2 pounds today so better than yesterday but not as good as the day before. I managed to smile graciously as I watched hubby devouring chocolate cheesecake and eating a starter today so I am hoping that not too much damage was done at lunchtime. I have changed my food around and have just eaten my weetabix at 8.30pm.

I am very interested to hear of your friends satisfaction with surgery. I cannot see how my boobs can ever naturally become a normal shape. There is such a lot of empty skin there that they hang down to below my waist. All that I can say is thank goodness for clothes!

Rae

I am a firm believer in a lot of milestones - in fact I suspect that without them a long term project like ours is almost impossible - people would view it as too big a task and that it was therefore outside their grasp. I like to have milestones at every stone and half stone, every ten pound boundary and every change of BMI. Having said that - we all identify the really big ones as really standing out from the crowd - getting half way to goal, losing 1/3 and 1/2 start weight, coming out of morbid obesity, coming from obesity to overweight, coming normal.

I can easily understand your desire to revisit your goal now that you are so close. You finally have a chance to evaluate whether you guessed right when you thought that it would be the right weight for you. In such things we have to balance things like achievability and expectations. I can strive for the weight that I was when I was young - but know that I will not be young this time around and will therefore not look like I did. We need to try to ascertain whether any flabbiness is surplus pounds that still need to be lost, muscles that need to be tightened which would happen through exercise not weight loss, or it could be loose skin.

I have seen a number of television programs where people have been examined in some form of scanner which can work out things like body fat. Part of me thinks that it may be a good idea to have such an examination just to confirm which is involved.

There is always the danger that we may want to go too far. We want our weight loss dreams to come true - not nearly come true. We must always double check such things as our BMI and make sure that any new goal is at a healthy level. We certainly dont want to become underweight. We have a long track record of not seeing our body as others see it.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Glad you had a nice lunch with your friends, despite having to watch your H devour chocolate cheesecake and appetizer. I don't think I would've been so strong. :)

The lady I know who had the surgery lost about 130lbs. She was a former co-worker of mine. She was pretty nervous about the whole precedure, and deliberated over it for ages. In the end, she is very glad she had it done. She looks terrific. :)

That's good your weight is down. Has :reddevil: reared his ugly head yet?

Hi Kimberly

I am certainly nervous about the whole idea of surgery. We have some tv programs that are on the subject - e.g. "10 years younger". It certainly sounds like you get about 6 weeks of pain for your trouble and no-one likes pain. Having said that - certainly with the programs dealing with loose skin after weight loss - I am sitting there saying things like "that women did the right thing to have that done - look how much better she looks".

As far as I am aware - I have done all that I can to encourage my skin to react to my weight loss as well as possible. I take every vitamin / supplement that I have ever seen recommended for the skin, I drink 2.5 litres of water every day, I cream my skin and massage my abdomen once a day with bio-oil. I have never smoked. I cannot change things so that I never got fat and I cannot change things so that I lost weight at a younger age. I really do not know of anything more that I can do.

I will want to feel happy and comfortable with the way that I look when I get to my goal weight. Surgery is certainly being considered quite seriously.

How long did your friend leave it after losing weight before having the surgery done? I have heard that you should leave things a while to see how far the skin contracts naturally.

As far as TOM is concerned - I thought that I mentioned it - but may not have. It was wierd. You know how regular I am. It came two days early on Thursday!!!! It was a total surprise. Also - I had had a low weight earlier that day - how wierd is that!!! I had really well established patterns of how these things were happening that have been like clockwork since about June last year when I noticed that a pattern was developing - not only regarding my cycle itself but with impedence to my weight loss. During months earlier on when I was losing a lot of weight - I maybe didnt gain on some weeks but I had some weeks with a much better loss than others. Now everything changes. I have no idea what is going on. No idea what this week will bring regarding my weight. I would have said "gain for sure" - but now I have no idea. The rulebook has gone out the window.

Take care

It also means that I am an hour later getting out on my morning walk!

The rulebook has gone out the window.

Looking into the surgery is always an option then you will be able to make a fully informed decision and there is no pressure to go ahead with it once you have enquired about it

Thanks for visiting.

Cerella

My body has long done some very wierd things - mainly associated with PCOS - but I really had got to think that some things had got predictable. More fool me!

For me it is easier to axe junk food and that type of thing from my diet completely than to try to have just a little bit in a controlled manner. I suppose that we are all different but many people say that you can have just a bit - but for me that would an awful lot harder to deal with.

I was an expert at convincing myself that I was having no more than anyone else. The fact has to be that I was having more than I should be. Even if some people can have all sorts of things and never be punished - I have to accept that life is not fair and some people like me will always be punished for excesses.

I will worry about the problems of trying to reintroduce food when I get to goal - when I get there. If some things never get reintroduced but I get to be the size that I want to be - it is really not the end of the world. I like chocolate as much as the next girl - but would willingly not have it again if I were to have the shape that I want.

Good luck at cutting out the junk that is hindering your weightloss project. We work so hard - we deserve to succeed.

Sarah

I am a real coward regarding anything that involves pain - but I do want to be happy with my end result.

Take care

Now that you've set your clocks ahead, you are back to being 5hrs ahead of us here on the East Coast. We set ours ahead a few weeks ago.

I believe she waited 6-12months to have the surgery. With the boobs, it is like a breast reduction, and I would imagine the stomach area would be similar to recuperating from a c-section (which takes about 4 weeks). I am pretty sure if I were you, I'd get the breast reduction, as it makes finding tops that fit easier, and looks more proportionate. But I can understand your hesitation, as any surgery has its risks. :)

Looks like you're down to 150!! The 140s are on the way!! :hurray:

Who knows what :reddevil: is ever up to. My period was extremely irregular for years. I never knew when it was coming. Sometimes it skipped seasons. I think I went 6months once without one. Now it's like clockwork. :svengo:

Heaven knows what will happen with my TOM next.

When I was younger I was prone to irregularity - but although it sometimes skipped a month or two - never more than that. I thought that the fact that it kept coming back quite quickly meant that all was ok. When I got told by a specialist that I was PCOS I was told that I hadnt ovulated in over 10 years. I said that I thought that I must have been ovulating because I had been having periods although sometimes they had been irregular. He looked at me like I was mad and said that I was just plain wrong with that. That is what I get for believing my mother - because when I was a girl that was what my mother told me.

Now it is like clockwork - it even jumps when the clocks change!!! :biggrinjester: That must be what happened this month!

The surgery is certainly very tempting because I am not happy with my boobs. Anyway - I will probably need the knife to sort out this waist. Have my appointment for a week and a bit to finally have my ultrasound.

I think I, too was under the mistaken impression that if one had one's period, one was ovulating. Well, hopefully I'm ovulating...lol. I think it would be rather ironic to find out we'd been so careful for so long when we didn't have to be.

Keep us posted re the ultrasound results. :)

I am sure that you will have been ovulating fine. If however you have ever had a major problem with facial hair or excessive body hair - get checked out immediately.

He made me feel really stupid I can tell you. I remembered the years of being careful too and thought it ironic among other things. I also concluded that I couldnt believe a word my mother has ever told me.

I'll let you know when I hear anything about the ultrasound - but heaven knows how long I will have to wait afterwards to get the results. The NHS is not the speediest thing in the world.

Nah, I don't have any excessive probs with body hair or any of the other symptoms of PCOS you've mentioned in the past. I should be good. My main fear is my age--one never knows what one's fertitility is like in the 2nd half of the 30s. :willy_nilly:

As long as you are ovulating now - I am sure that you will be fine. There is nothing that makes me think that you wouldnt be.

Also - the fact that you are aware when your fertile time is and are planning on being particularly active at that time is all in your favour. Although you are in the second half of your thirties you are very definitely midthirties and that will be in your favour too - it is not like you are 39.

I know someone who recently produced their first child at 43 so you have ages to try. Having said that - I would seek medical attention alerting them to the situation if you havent hit the target in say 6 month's time.

Amazing as usual Marge!
What is this weeks amazing race thingie? Kiwifruits? Where did you guys travel to?? I love that game (I read into it a few days ago). but I love it from the outside not the inside, I think. I like watching you guys do it!
I would be too afraid of failing my team!

Have a great day, Camy

Yeah, they say if you haven't conceived after a year of trying, to talk to a fertility specialist. We'll see what happens this weekend. :D As it's only the second month, I am not concerned atm.

How was your walk today? It is pouring buckets here. I hope your weather is better. :)

Thanks for visiting.

Camy

We are all visiting New Zealand so the choice is to eat kiwi fruit or eat lamb. I enjoy lamb - but eat it rarely these days because it is quite fattening. I chose kiwi fruit and I am so pleased that I did because it is ages since I had any and I am really enjoying them. I think that the challenges work so well for many people because people do not want to let their team down. They therefore are more inclined to stick to their weight loss project. Kimberly always structures the challenges such that they provide a short course on healthy weightloss. This means that people end up checking that they are exercising and drinking the right amount of water or eating the right amount of protein or fibre. You may want to seriously consider joining the next challenge. An impressive amount of weight tends to be lost in total by the participants.

Kimberly

I am impressed at the extent to which you are willing to put yourself out this weekend in order to save having to trouble a fertility specialist. Your hubby is clearly of a similar self sacrificing frame of mind.

I am sorry that you have got the rain. The weather is really pleasant here today. Nothing too hot - but not cold either and certainly dry. I would be more than happy for us to get identical weather every day of April.

Take care

This is for Kimberly rather than Omega, but I felt that if I put it into your diary it would be unconnected to everything written there, so sorry Margaret if I abuse your diary for this:

I am training in OB/GYN and know a fair bit about infertility since I worked in an infertility clinic for a while. If you do not conceive now, do not worry. Being overweight affects your body in many ways, one of them is that it leads to transient infertility. Once your BMI is around 27 or lower your chances of conceiving are much higher, they recommend it to be in normal range generally.
I know if you really want a baby, you can get very impatient (I am planning on trying for one in 18 to 24 months time (if all goes well) and I can't wait!), but having a baby once your weight is down is a good idea on all fronts! 1. you will be more likely to conceive, 2. you will gain weight, of course you will, but it will be less to lose afterwards and that will enable you to take care better of your baby. Not saying big people cn't take care of their babies but it will mean you can concentrate more on the baby etc...
Also and very importantly, many women (often especially bigger women) starve themselves during pregnancy so they won't gain that much, and this can be terrible for the baby, problems in pregnancy starved children go from diabetes to heart problems to autism.
So really you want to get pregnant when you can eat without thinking about your weight!

A little stats however that plays in your favour: 80% of all couples get pregnant in their 1st year trying, 90% after 2 years of trying. Another 2 % get pregnant after understanding how exactly to time their sex. So only 8% are left to suffer from inferility and frmo those (depending on your area) up to 50% achieve pregnancy with infertility treatments! Nowadays there are so many options, that really very few have to go childless if they really desire it!

Ok, sorry again for that, Camy

:drool5:

Too too funny. Like Margaret, I'm also noting the self-sacrifice. Poor H! he he

Hello there dear Margaret, just lurking around your diary a bit trying to harness some of your dedication. I see you've made this a focus, a project that takes priority over all else. That's what I need to do now. I've moved to my new place, I'm totally organized with everything in its place, the to do list is shrinking, and its time to devote the same level of dedication. Unfortunately I talk a lot of shit. Or rather, I start out with high hopes and end up just maintaining (I'll go a time in a calorie deficit, get hungry or get stressed with other matters, and then overeat for a time = maintaining this same weight -- give or take 5 pounds -- since last June). I only wish I had yours and Kimberley's discipline. Starting with today: I MUST I MUST I MUST increase my bust -- I mean GO TO THE GYM

TTYL :)
