Omega's journey

Margaret,

I feel like I've lost a week and I'm not up on everyone's diaries. I did read all your entries, so I'm up to date now. ;) You can miss a lot in two days time!

I don't know how you can walk in the pouring rain! Wow...you really have the willpower!! I'd be too afraid of getting sick.

I hope you have a good time at your parents celebration. I'm going to stop in again soon.

Take care,
Anne

Another dry day – very cloudy – but it provided a blanket which meant that it was not so cold for my walk (which I did early). Very busy. Rushed to get away as husband finished work at lunchtime. Weather got very wet in places and pretty windy in others. Journey took over 7 hours and was exhausting. Bitterly cold weather on arrival!

Ate very late as I has to cook the meal on arrival.

General Data:

Morning walk = 6.3 miles.
Round the block = none
Extra exercises = none
Weight = 13st 2.8lbs (i.e. 184.8 pounds)
Steps = 24,747
Distance = 9.17 miles
Remembered to take normal vitamin / supplements
Continued my creaming regime badly – did moisturising face twice but missed off both bio-oil massages and missed body lotion massage

Food / Drink:

NB I have no target calories. I am not trying to reach any magic number.

1 banana = 107 calories
3 weetabix (190 cal), sweetener (4 calories), 350 ml skimmed milk (123 cal) = 317 calories.
Large bowl grapes = 200 calories
pork loin steak (200 cal), tin baked beans (210 cal) = 410 calories
2 large handfuls of raisins = 812 calories
1 wine gum = 20 calories
1.5 litres of cold water
some diet cola

Thanks for visiting my diary Anne and Stacy and for your good wishes. I suppose that I find it easier to walk than face my demons about what would happen to my project if I didnt. And that leads to demons about what would happen if my project failed. All really scary stuff.

The good thing is that my weight is down - and I have done what I needed to today. Next lasering - the Saturday before Christmas...

I hope that things are going well for you both.

Take care

Wow!!! After you do so much exercise do you just rest for the remainder of the day? I don't think I'd be able to move...

Hope you're day is going well.

Hi Jennifer

Thanks for popping by.

Well even if you do no exercise during the rest of the day - you are exhausted from sitting in the car on that journey. Luckily my husband did all the driving - but then I had the fun of making the meal when we got here. My mother is full of cold and at their age - they have to take things easily. I got their groceries for the next week in today, and have been on kitchen duties.

I managed to get a walk in this morning - but am generally walking less than at home. I am not sure how much walking I will get done on Sunday as we will do the journey before I get the chance to go on a walk.

I am having a quiet evening tonight.

I hope that your day is going well too.

Take care

I can see how that work environment would get to you--it certainly would drive me over the edge! I think I'd much prefer your current quieter lifestyle. But I would love to go into London once a week just to do leisure activities. I love the museums and parks there. Of course, the shopping is fantastic as well. Just talking about it makes me miss it. I've spent about a year total there over about 4 different trips, but haven't been to England since 1994. sigh..lol

That is really neat about your family history and those pics. I'm into geneology myself, and have traced my father's paternal line back into the mid-1800s. If I exerted a little effort, I'm pretty sure I could get back much further, as I've made the acquaintance of a shirt tale relation who has gone back much further (1600s, I believe). I think we have figured out how our lines tie in. Anyway, it's no surprise that my family came from England (our last name is actually the same as a large city in England)--we knew that all along. But it would be interesting to find out more about who and what my ancestors were.

I can assure you that you'll find next week's bonus much easier and more to your liking. If only there was one that required daily raisin consumption, eh? ;)

Hi Kimberly,

A raisin consumption bonus - that sounds even better!!:):):)

I do however think that many people do not grasp that there is so much more than counting calories to eating healthily.

Maybe a suitable element for a future bonus (in this or a similar challenge) should be to include in each day protein, carbohydrate, 5 portions of fruit/veg.

Alternatively 2 litres water.

You mention London. I accept what you say - but there is actually quite a lot of history elements which is accessible without going near central London. Hampton Court is pretty near to me, as is Windsor in the other direction. If we want to go to the theatre we would mainly go to Richmond or Windsor. There is quite a large park at Richmond which is full of deer. There is a royal park at Bushy too. Shopping is less of a draw for me since I turned my back on many of the material aspects of life - and stopped earning money. So little of what you buy is actually necessary.

So - you are interested in family history too! It is so fascinating - seeing what your ancestors got up to. Fortunately many of my lines were very static. Also as farmers they tended to write wills. Some of these are truly interesting. Some of my lines were made easier by the liberal use of very obscure christian names.

Genes reunited can be a good place to look. It is free to put up a tree - and quite inexpensive to join for a year if you want to try and contact some potential relatives to compare notes.

Ancestry is more expensive - but every so often they have a special promotion where they allow you to do searches for free. This includes all the England censuses from 1841 to 1901. Over several promotions I have confirmed a number of theories. I always knew a certain amount of the information from word of mouth - but it is always nice to find documentary evidence. Sometimes word of mouth proves to be a slightly modified version of the truth.

Take care

Margaret,

I'm into genealogy too! And Bikinibound, I also live in Mi. :)....not that that's a good thing though! lol I don't particularly like Michigan weather.

Margaret,

I totally understand how you feel about walking vs. facing your demons. I don't want to face defeat in this weight loss challenge. Besides, I am in the habit of working out now, and if I don't do it, I feel weird, like something big is missing in my day.

Just last night on the news, they did a story about a woman who weighed over 300 lbs and she lost over 100 from walking. I missed the story, but saw the commercial telling about it. I wish I could have seen the whole thing.

Anyhow, just stopped in to say hello and you're gonna laugh, but it just flashed through my mind how motivating you are for me, and I dubbed you Margaret the Motivator!

That works for me!

Anne

Hi Anne

Margaret the Motivator! - I like that.

I think the beauty of this type of forum is that we all motivate each other. It is like what they say about teams being stronger than the sum of the individuals.

These TV items are really motivating. I still check up on the Charlie Walduck pages on the internet whenever I need to reinforce my belief in the viability of the project. How anyone can lose 420 pounds in two years by sensible eating and walking and then get to run in marathons always impresses me.

Take care

I realize there is more to eating healthy than counting calories. And you will see this reflected in future bonuses--don't worry.

I know the whole country is full of history. I've been to Windsor castle, York and Lincoln Cathedrals, Stratford, Warwick Castle, and several musuems and attractions in other cities such as Cambridge, Oxford, Liverpool, Manchester, Bath, Dover, Nottingham. Also went to the Bronte parsonage in Haworth--very cool, as I'm a big fan of the Bronte sisters. I love the whole country, but I especially like London. I haven't been to Hampstead, though, and I would love to get there someday. :) I would also love to see more of the SW part of the country such as Cornwall. I've also never been to the Lake District. Ah, so much to see, so little time...

The 1841-1901 English census wouldn't help me, as my family has been in the States since way before 1841. I think since the late 17th century--but not quite sure. :)

LOVE IT! :D

Hi

Thanks for visiting my diary and for your words of encouragement. I really appreciated it. I hope that you are all having a great weekend. Please excuse the delay getting back as I have been busy with my family and then travelling back home. As soon as I got home I had to go out on my long walk and have only just got back in.

Kimberly

Hampstead...... I once knew a girl that insisted that she only would ever live on two pages of the London A to Z (she used to site the page numbers) because it had Hampstead Heath on it. She was a very nice person - but I would class that as a little eccentric.

I have never been to Cornwall. I have been often to the Lake District. When your parents are Cumbrian and you live in the north-east you get taken there repeatedly from a very young age. When I visited various Aunties and Uncles we used to often go to one or another of the lakes as they are only a few miles from where various of these people lived.

I do believe that ancestry also has American censuses available. If you havent checked it out - I would if I were you. I am sure that you will have already investigated familysearch (the mormon site). The censuses are very useful because they help to tie the families together.

Sometimes you can hit lucky and the tree jumps out of the records to you. Girls christian names Alpha and Omega are used extensively in my paternal grandmother's family. It means that a Cumbrian Omega in the historical records is almost certain to be related to me. Every one that I have checked so far has been.

Stacy and Jennifer

Thanks for your good wishes.

Nice job meeting your target calorie range! :)

Your walks are very impressive--that is a lot of walking. I did a 5 mile walk a month or so ago, and I was tired by the end. I usually do 3-4 miles.

The Hampstead lady does sound a bit eccentric. To each their own, eh?

I'm pretty sure that shirt tail relation I mentioned earlier has all the info I need. I believe we have the same great great great great grandparents..lol. I just need to email her, but I haven't gotten around to it. :biggrinjester:

Margaret,

I know you work hard for your weight loss and it amazes me how your pounds are just dropping day by day. I think you were 191 when I first joined this site, and now you're down to 183. Amazing! I can't tell you how much you inspire me. :)

You know a few years ago, when I was trying to lose weight and walking it off on the track, I used to picture in my head how fat my body looked and it angered me so much, I walked my butt off! Then last year when I tried again ( but failed) I put a fat picture of myself up on the wall so that when I walked on my treadmill, I would be looking at it the whole time. It does motivate me. ( I'm sure it got a laugh from the cable man when he had to come in to repair my cable, and I forgot to take it down. I know he saw it...lol)

When you walk, do you focus on anything? Or do you just walk and enjoy your surroundings? I know when I walk, I go into a deep space in my brain, with the music pumping, and I keep picturing my fat body. And then I picture my skinny body. It's really intense! I have to be focused like that to walk.

Well, I just wanted to say congrats on your continued loss, and at the rate you are going, you'll reach your target very soon. ;)

Anne
