Omega's journey

I was concerned at first about the protein measuring for the bonus on the challenge next week - but now think that it should be ok.

Most of my daily menus are very similar - and I do not alternate between too many main meals. The only one which I suspect will not give enough protein is pasta - so I shall not have it next week.

I had been going to have pasta tomorrow (Saturday) and have the ingredients in the fridge. I will simply swap with what I was going to have tonight.

I do sometimes get a slight temporary weight gain the day after eating pasta - but today's weighing (12st 10.2lbs at empty) was 3.4 pounds down from last Saturday - so even with a slight gain I would like to think that my weight will still get my team the weight loss points.

Hi Omega :)

How is your husband doing now ? Hope he is better. I'm not sure but is pasta healthy? I thought it contains cheese and never order it at restaurants.. (yeah I havent tried pasta :( ) anyways oh by the way is it ok to have diet coke? If yes, I'll have to stcok it up this weekend.. take care and have a nice day !! :)

Thanks for visiting.

My husband is tons better thanks - and back to work today.
I hope that you both have a good weekend.

As I understand it - pasta is very like rice. It can be good or bad - it depends on similar factors. You may already have your head around rice so I think that if you think it similar you should be ok.

For both there are various types and the brown type is considered the healthiest - but quite a lot of people prefer the white type.

For both - you can cook it different ways and that can have an impact. Fried rice is a lot more fattening than boiled. Similarly some pastas are like little pockets with little fillings inside that can be a bit fattening.

For both - a huge impact is made by what you eat it with. You may have a vegetarian or meat based sauce and this can either not have too many calories - or have simply tons of calories. If you have pasta with a cheese based sauce it can have loads of calories.

When I have pasta I make a sauce out of tomatoes, garlic, onions, mushrooms, peppers, olives. That kind of thing. The pasta is just a plain pasta - so it is not too fattening. It does fill you up - but I sometimes get a temporary gain because it sometimes is a little sluggish as it passes through me. I certainly feel happy about eating it during my weight loss project.

You ask about diet coke and whether it is a good thing. The answer is another of those maybe yes, maybe no things.

The good thing about diet coke is that it has basically no calories in it so if you are counting calories it does not increase things. I would say it is better than full cal coke or eating chocolate.

The bad thing about diet coke is that it does contain lots of salts and chemicals and things. Now these can cause your body to store water. That water all has weight and takes up room inside you. Now this does not help you weigh less or fit into smaller clothes.

It is much healthier to drink water. A lot of experts say that we should try to drink 64 fluid ounces of cold water a day (about 2 litres). Apparently the body always has at the back of its mind that there might be a drought so it is inclined to hang on to some water in case bad times hit. If you drink lots of water - the body gets the message and decides that it doesnt need to stockpile so you do not carry as much water inside you. This reduces your weight and inches.

Water is also very good for your skin.

On top of that the chemicals in diet coke can mess about with your skin and give people all sorts of rashes.

Since I know that you are a PCOS lady that would like to drop a few pounds to keep your weight at a slim safe level - and because I know that you are concerned about your skin - if you can drink water and no diet coke I would do so. You may need to wean yourself off diet coke (it is quite addictive). If that is the case - do as I do - keep a bottle of water in the fridge and only allow yourself some diet coke when you have had your water. This should help you break any addiction.

I take starflower oil capsules, omega 3 fish oil capsules and a multivitamin that includes zinc - all for my skin. You may want to consider doing this.

Kim

We both earn every ounce of our weight loss - but some weeks we just dont get it just the same. I must admit to being grateful when I do.

Take care
Love
Margaret

Hiya Margaret!

Hiya Margaret!
Seems like you have been a busy lady and your diary is overflowing with entries, just thought I would stop in. Have been doing ok with the diet, trying to get to the point where I can resist temptation, you know how that is...

I am happy your husband is feeling better... I hope he hits the walks with you soon. I think it is awesome you both are working on the weight and you both are hitting the trails together, makes it more enjoyable.

I have actually made a new friend on another site that lives in Somersworth. We are going to Starbucks and Target on Monday around seven pm. Going to do some Christmas Shopping and get a couple Venti passion fruit tazo teas, unsweetened. But I plan to put a couple sweet n low packets in, but man ..that tea is awesome!! and its only 2.10 for a venti with light ice. Awesome!

But anyway...
Is tea alright to drink?

So how have you been?
I went to my doctor... GYN for my annual check up... and we will see what the results come in two weeks... I will write in my diary about it most likely

I hope you are doing well... sounds like it! :)

Glad to hear you've got it all worked out. :D I was pretty sure that you wouldn't have to make too many changes.

I'm happy to hear that hubby is feeling well enough to return to work. My hubby got part of the day off because we got 4 inches of snow last night. They delayed school 2hrs, then closed it later on. But not before some drivers had started on their runs. My H went into work and started pre-tripping his bus when they asked him and another driver to go and help a lady who'd backed her bus into a ditch..oops! Anyway, the nice thing is that he worked about 3hrs today and got paid for 8. He drives special needs kids to school and home--that's his job. :)

You will be pleased to hear that I have just printed out all 40 pages of the Foreign Service application and have clicked the SEND button. It is finished. :D Thank you for staying on my case about this--I will admit that not wanting to hear you nag me about it made me get it taken care of, where I might very well otherwise have let it slip. :)

Hey Margaret,

Just thought I would stop by. This may sound weird, but like this morning, when I woke up and it was pouring with rain, and there was a wee part of me that thought, just take the boys out for a quick ten minutes, you don't have to do the big walk, I thought of you out there every day, and somehow felt I wasn't alone on my journey, and if she can do it, so can I. And off we all went.

And I really do want to show my trainer and the guys at the gym I can do this. It's another motivator.

I actually am in credit at the gym, and so I am actually going to call them next saturday after my exams are finished and make some sessions with them when I am officially on holiday and can walk there and back twice a week and add that into my schedule. That way I can do weight training as well, and use up my credit. Hubby may be able to drop me there as well so that will make it easier.

Best wishes to you and your husband,

Frankie

More lovely visitors encouraging me on my way! Thankyou so much for popping by. I really appreciate and need all the encouragement that I can get in this mammoth task.

Natalie Jo

I dont know when hubby will come out walking. He didnt come out walking tonight when he got home from work - but it was dark and raining quite heavily so I cant really blame him. Only a mad person would go out in that rain (and me this afternoon of course). We will see what the next few days brings...

I am pleased that you have found a chum to meet up with. That is great. And Starbucks seems to have a lot of attractions for you. I expect that it is something to do with the view....

I am not the best person to ask about drinking tea (despite being English - I know that you think that we drink tea all the time). I havent drank tea since I was about 2 to 3 years old and acquired the vocabulary to explain to my mother that the reason that I threw around, messed about with and generally didnt drink the tea that she was giving me was that I found it revolting.

I have been pretty good healthwise recently - I have to say. Losing this amount of weight seems to help quite a lot. I have had a couple of panic moments when I was spotting and I nearly went to the doctors and got checked out - but decided that I was over-reacting. If it happens again I am off to the quack's. The cancer risk is not worth sitting on symptoms like that for too long. My husband swears that I am more tranquil since I started walking - so that has been a bit of a benefit to him too.

They say that we can minimise our health risks if we can only bring our BMI down far enough. I really have started to believe that it is possible that we can do just that. It is a bit like a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. Is it a false dawn???!!!

I do hope that the tests went well. Be sure to post news about them in your diary.

Kimberly

I am pleased that you have sent that application in. I was more than happy to nag - I know how irritating I can be. If there is anything else that you need gentle reminders over - be sure to let me know. In the nagging Olympics - I do deserve gold for England!

Thank goodness we havent had any snow yet. The rain is bad enough for me. I imagine that your hubby was pleased to get part of the day off with pay.

Your story reminds me of when my hubby was in Helsinki. He and some chums got sent up to the arctic circle for fun one weekend at Nokia expense. Anyway, aside from visiting Santa Claus they also went out on skidoos. Well naturally it was snow everywhere - but the weather had been kind of nice. They were all following each other - but my hubby decided to not go along the same tracks as the others - he saw this inviting bit of nice untouched snow that he just had to drive over. Well you can guess what happened - this nice snow was on top of something that was basically melting and he sunk his skidoo. A couple of Lapps were there leading the group and they had to help him sort it out. It was so cold - ice was forming around one leg as you made the step forward with the other leg. Apparently he heard some grumbling in Lapp. I wish that I had been there.

My hubby eventually left mobile telecoms and now looks after PCs at a local college.

Frankie

Well done for getting out and walking in that rain. Your weight loss project will thank you for it. You are certainly not alone on your journey. You can guarantee that I will be out walking.

Your trainer will have to eat his words when he sees your results. It is a good idea to use up your gym credit - you have paid for it so you should have the benefit of it. It will give the trainer more than one opportunity to realise how you have him sussed.

Take care
Love

Howdy Omega,
Your menue looks yummy and I see your trying to
get more protien I love chicken and could live off chicken/turkey 24-7 lol.

Now on to those 160's "here WE come!:auto::seeya:

Wow Tammy - You are into the 170s too.

CONGRATULATIONS. I knew that you would be. We seem to be trecking right alongside each other weight wise.

:party::party::party::party:

We should hit some more milestones before we get to the 160s - but we will hit them together and be the size that we want to be very soon.

I was really concerned about the protein thing at first (see our team thread - I panicked!!!) but once I saw how Thursdays protein worked out I felt a lot happier (you will see how Kimberly talked me down from a precipice!).

We eat baked beans a lot in this house (or as often as I can get hubby to agree to). They are cheap, pretty low calorie for the amount of nourishment in them, quick and easy to get ready for eating and a bit of a cholesterol wonder food. If you can only bring yourself to eat three big cans per week - they are supposed to clean all the cholesterol out of your insides after a few months.

Congratulations once again.

Take care
Love

So November is at an end.

I am pretty pleased with my achievements over the month of November.

I had one week where I gained – but this was due to water retention. Things also slowed down for a while around then – but then improved. My weight loss is often slightly skewed.
On 1st Nov my weight was 13st 5.6 lbs i.e. 187.6 pounds
On 30th Nov my weight is 12st 10.2 lbs i.e. 178.2 pounds

During the month of November I have lost 9.4 pounds

During November I passed the following milestones:
Weight is no longer in the teen stones - it starts twelve stone something.
Weight is now in the 170s

In order to achieve this rate of loss I have been consistently firm regarding my food.
My pedometer tells me that during the month I have walked a total of 322.76 miles
I have taken 870,654 steps

This averages as a daily rate of 29,021 steps, 10.75 miles

I also attend 2 exercise classes per week.

For each pound lost over the month I have been firm with my food for 3 days, have attended one exercise class and have walked 34.33 miles. When I think of it that way I have earned every ounce.

:party::party::party::party::party:

:party::party::party::party::party:

Oh My Gosh!!!!
You walked over 322 miles!? That is flippin' AWESOME!!! I think that I can safely say that I haven't ever walked that much in one month. Well maybe when I was in boot camp. But that doesn't count cuz' I didn't stay. Long Story. I'll save it for another time...LOL.
Anyway those are absolute wonderful accomplishments. And you have every right to toot your own horn!
Go Margaret!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS ON A GREAT NOVEMBER!!

You truly are an inspiration to so many people on this forum (myself included). :)

You are an exercise machine, and so discplined with your eating. And you are always full of encouragement and kindness (and nagging in my case :D) to anyone in need of it. I don't think I'm alone here in thinking that I'm really glad you found and joined WLF. :)

GO MARGARET, GO MARGARET!!

I forgot to mention that your dedication to walking reminds me of the U.S. Postal Service creed, "Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet" will keep them from delivering the mail. A little pouring rain isn't going to keep our Margaret from walking over 6 miles. :)

I hope your throat feels better. I'd tell you to drink tea, but since you're not into it..lol

Oh, Natalie, tea is good for you--decaf/herbal tea is best, but all forms of tea are good for you. :) Very low in calories and it contains anti-oxidants. Some people like to put milk and sugar in their tea--which, obviously you would want to keep to a minimum. But just plain tea is great for dieting. :D

Margaret, you've had an incredible month. I am so pleased for you. (And glad you are on my team!)

And while rain, snow and sleet won't halt the mail, we learned last year that the most severe ice storm in over a century will! (For 5 days. It will also halt power and phones for over 2 weeks, make roads impossible to drive down for over a week and a myriad of other pain in the butt events.)

Way to go maragret! Those are some amazing stats! You definitly worked for your loss and are extremely inspiring!

Once again - I thank you for visiting me and for your kind and encouraging comments. :grouphug: It really does help me to keep focused.

Bellaryna

I am so pleased that you are making a good recovery. I still cannot get over how well you have done this week.

Now you see why the week 4 bonus on the challenge was no effort at all. I was going to do it anyway - in fact I was going to do enough for the team anyway if only Kimberly had let us transfer such things about.

When I say that I have to do a lot of walking to lose any weight - I actually mean just that.

It does sound like you have lived a very interesting life so far - I have never done anything as interesting (or unusual) as boot camp. You will have to tell me the long story sometime. I love long stories.

Kimberly

You always say the sweetest things. I am so pleased that I found this forum. It just goes to show that my horrible September plateaus were not all bad. I found the forum while searching for a solution after my doctor told me that if I had stopped losing weight while being good with my food and walking a lot - I would not lose any more weight. The woman is a quack!

Rain wont stop me (I am a northern girl - not a southern softie - we are made of tougher stuff). I am not so sure about too much snow though. I am hoping for a mild winter like that. You have my sympathy regarding your current weather conditions.

I have plenty Greek honey which should sort out my throat. My friend Maria keeps bees on Rhodes. Honey always tastes nicer if the lady who talks to the bees is a friend.

Amber

I am so pleased to be in your team too. Your 2.4 pounds loss this week is excellent so for another week you have scored maximum points.

I am sure that you will agree with me that we PCOS girls have to work that bit harder for our weight loss - but we can do it if we stay very focused. I really wish with all my heart that I had held on to that belief when I was your age.

I am not even thinking about me walking in the most severe ice storms in half a century! I am positive that they would halt me. I hate to think how many times I would have to run from my living room to my kitchen and back again in this little house to get my steps in!!!!

Jaxxy

Thanks. Well done on getting maximum points in the challenge this week. We really are a great team.

Take care
Love
Margaret
