Olga's diary

I'm very glad to hear you're trying to give your body what it needs, but to be honest 150 g of nuts would be another extreme. How about 20 g of nuts plus 150 g of beans/pulses? That'd give you a healthier amount of fat AND some extra protein. Though, to be fair, you're unlikely to get to your protein levels on plant matter alone unless you have a decent amount with each and every meal. I hope you don't mind me nagging, starting a diet can be overwhelming at first and it often takes a while to get the details right. On that note: very well done deciding to take matters into your own hands and changing your life.

Thank you for your support! :)

Hi olga..
As far as your protein goes; more is better.
Nut products will be good but you'll want to watch the calories because most nuts have a pretty good calorie punch.beans and tofu are a few more good sources. If you need ideas for vegan dishes maybe you could go to pinterest and search vegan recipes..
Just eating bacic vegtables can get pretty boring..I just dont want you to lose interest and give up.

Thank you for these kind words.
I'll never give up, I have a great goal!
I look for new products every day and every day I find something interesting and delicious.
When I started my diet on the 30 of January, I could not imagine how many mouth-watering vegan dishes exist. Now I know recipes of 35 smoothies, a cold vegan soup, lots of porridges, and it is not the limit!

Today:
3 dishes of split pea soup (ingredients: water, peas, salt)
6 bananas
50 grams of peanuts
something else from fruit, I don't remember what
Exercises on my stepper: 1100 steps for three days.

Well done on the peas! Might I suggest you download a food-logging app? There are several (free) ones out there that'll let you click on the things you ate, put in the amounts and the app will tell you the calories, which nutrients you're getting enough of and which ones you're still missing. I think it's very helpful when you're still searching for the basics.

Thank you, that's what I am going to do!
My meals today:
150 grams of black grapes
500 grams of tangerines
3 portions of crashed pea soup with 5 ml of cedar oil and salt.
Some tea with 2 teaspoons of sugar and lemon.

Not enough protein again, but I am going to improve that!

Depends on the nuts; best have a look at the nutritional value. Also depends on what you´re eating them for: if you´re using them as a source of fat most nuts will have you covered with 50 g but if you´re using them for protein you´re not going to get enough. A single brazil nut will get you your daily amount of selenium. It all depends on your goals. Which is why I suggested you download an app that´ll help you evaluate how you´re doing nutrition-wise. We´re interested laypeople, no dieticians, and even if we were it would be a bit much to analyze everyone´s exact food logs and writing personalized diet plans for them on our spare time. I´m happy to help you get started with the big picture but that´s all I can offer I´m afraid.
What you´ve got going for you is that you´re really ready to change things and it looks like you´re very good at eating the things you think you need to eat as opposed to what your taste buds want (I couldn´t force myself to eat pureed split peas with nothing but a bit of salt to enhance their taste). What you need is to do a bit of reading of official nutritional guidelines. You´re in college, about to start your master´s, so I´m pretty sure you´re well-practiced in acquiring new skills and information. You can do this!

Thank you for your reply!
I cannot find tofu anywhere. 50 grams of nuts is ok or too much/not enough?
I know you live someplace far across the big pond so stores may be different in your area. Here they keep it near the produce in a refridgerated section. It's a healty foods section. Its near cartons of goats milk and almond milk natural dressings and things like that. Health food stores might have some. Easiest place would be if you have an oriental market in your area.. If all else fails there is the mail order option.

Well done, Olga! I hope it'll get easier now to give your body all the nutrients it needs despite the lower calories. Do stay mindful of the protein content of your meals.

On Thursday I walked for 90 minutes.

So, walked for about 3 hours per this week (45 minutes on Tuesday, 45 minutes on Wednesday, 90 minutes on Thursday).

On Saturday I felt bad and I was on the verge of giving up my diet. I was so nervous about my seminars at uni that I could not cope with nervosity for all the day. In the afternoon I drank 2 mugs of strong coffee with lots of sugar, but without milk, and felt much better (in the morning I had eaten a lot of cherry tomatoes, a little of wheat porridge, few crispbreads, some bread with soybean paste, but still felt bad till the afternoon).

Then, in the afternoon I ate 2 portions of macaroni with 15 ml of cedarwood oil and ketchup, but without cheese. Then, in the evening, I ate tinned green peas (130 grams) and a pear. Felt much better and found some solutions for my uni trouble.

Still not sure if I don't have some lack of any vitamins/proteins/carbohydrates/oils.

Yesterday's nervosity makes me worried.

Have you started tracking your food in one of the many food tracking apps online? these apps will give you a full breakdown of your nutritional intake, if the number are confusing post them here and someone will be able to see what your missing.

Hello there.
I have counted, I have been eating healthy vegan food for 29 days already!!
I have lost more than 5 kilos.
Yesterday walked for 30 minutes.
Today I am going to walk for 90 minutes.
Had to stay at home the whole last week because I had caught the flu, but now I have fully recovered, going to walk and eat fresh fruit and vegs a lot!
