Older, Wiser, but still fat...

:hug2:Hi Karl!!!! How are you???? havent talked to you in quite some time! Hope you are well... hope your hunnie is doing well also!!! Is life treating you kindly? I sure hope so!

Take care!

Matt, as always, you have the right thing to say, you have been there and done that with weight loss so I genuflect in your presence...

The battle goes much better with some sun for once , though doesn't it?

Melissa, thanks for coming by :waving: I've been busy and not posting as much as I'd really like to, but its all good.

Today the sun came out... everything else was good after that...

Amazing how a sunny day (for once), can change your attitude!

My wife was running around this afternoon, and I had to go in 3 hours early to work today, so I had a limited amount of time to do stuff this afternoon. Headed to the gym at Fitchburg State with a duffel bag packed. Wore my workout clothes, had a set of cycling clothes in the bag and a change of clean work clothes for afterwards. Finished my weights, changed over to the cycling clothes and headed to the Nashua River Rail Trail (happens to be about halfway between work and home).

Rode the full round trip, 25 miles in one hour 35 minutes. My wife called me while I was between venues and asked why I wasn't coming back home to switch over to my motorcycle. She was shocked that I wouldn't take the Honda to work on a night like this. My explanation was simple... I had enough time to make the choice between riding a good distance and heading to work right after to shower, change and go to work, or I could have cut down the mileage and gone home to take the motorcycle. My choice was the bicycle. It has been raining solidly since Sunday, my cardio has, in a word, sucked... I dislike stationary machines, so I only get short workouts on them. I needed a real session to get my blood pumping.

As much as it killed me to leave the Honda at home... the Cannondale was the better choice...

See that last post up there ^? Yup that was the last time it was sunny...

The sun came out again today. Seriously, it has rained every day this week - every one. The month of June was a washout. We had 5 days out of the entire month that it didn't rain. SAD is in full force.

I will ride my bike today, I will ride it many miles, just for the sheer glory of being outside on a day where this big bright thing is visible in the sky.

I can't handle this shit, I really can't. I'm hoping that the weather has changed for a while now and summer is finally here. Even with all of the alternative methods of getting cardio that I've been trying, I'm just not feeling like I'm getting enough.

My mood has been sucking lately too. Hopefully some sun helps...

Hi K

I too am sick of rain...hey my garden looks awesome but I waited so long for summer that I am ready for a few days of sunshine.

I want to commend you on riding the bike to work...wow thats great...

Now I also want to give you an attitude adjustment :)..so here is a boot in the butt...(SWIFT KICK)...we cant control the weather only our reaction to it...so I promise to have an attitude where sunshine is coming outtamy ass if you promise to shoot sunshine outta your ass too.....(what a wonderful visual)...

hugz and stuff

I wish we could get some of that rain over here in South Texas. We are in a severe drought right now. I hate when it rains down here because that's when the skeeters come out but we really need the rain. I'm sorry you're so down. Hope the weather gets better so you can cheer up. Take care, friend.

hey Karl.... chin up!!!! I know weather def does have a direct affect on your mood... its just fact. The sun will come out soon!!! :)

you are doing great! Im sure once you get back into your routine and arent stuck inside... things will turn around!

Hey Karl!

Glad to hear your wife is doing well :D

Sorry that you have cabin fever due to the rain.. it will pass, and you will get out and about in the Sun again :D..

....it probably doesn't help if I say it has been beautifully sunny here.. cold (well for us) but so gloriously sunny and lovely! Saturday we went to the Beach! Well...no one swam but we sat in the sun and just lapped up the beauty of it all! If I could send you some sunshine I would :)

Hey Karl

Really pleased to hear your wife is recovering nicely, I hope this continues.

If we are creatures who like to get out and about, its a bummer when the weather stops us from doing so, I know myself how much weather can affect my mood. I do find though that if I do some early morning exercise this helps no end and if I can get out and about in the fresh air even better.

I do hope the weather picks up and your mood lifts soon. Our moods can affect all sorts of others areas of our lives, its when its great to have support like we get on here to boost us now and then. xxx

Hey kids I'm back!

The weather this holiday weekend was absolutely glorious, and yes, my mood is remarkably improved.

In fact, I even overdid it somewhat and am currently suffering through some sunburn... nothing like going from one extreme to the other.

Had some serious BBQ action this weekend, but managed to keep my self honest through proper calorie budgeting and exercise. Ended up today breaking even with last week. I'll take it given that it could have been much worse.

Okay this is painful - when you have a sunburn across your entire back because you were too stupid to get out of the sun and/or reapply sunscreen...

Then, you don't want to miss too much work out time - so... You lay down on the bench with your sunburnt back against that nice vinyl covered weight bench, then start pushing lots of weight up and down on a barbell...

Yeah, I thought someone was holding a torch against my back, just lovely. I swapped over to pushups to finish my chest workout. Hopefully I'll be in better shape when I do my second push split this week.

In other news, my wife has lost approx 32 lbs. She can now eat solid foods again, and she is coming out walking with me every night (well, when it isn't raining anyway). She is adjusting very well so far.

Shockingly enough, it's raining in New England again. I have not even bothered opening my pool this year. Why bother? I'll be closing it in early September anyway. This has truly been the worst summer I have ever had, weather wise.

This week I'm going to start doing some swimming again, probably at the school gym, get some laps in. I also started trying some run/walk intervals, and I'm able to run much further than before. Hopefully I can actually make it work this time without the knee pain I had before. I'd love to be able to do a sprint tri...

finally its a perfect summer morning here...beautiful out...took long enough!!!

i will continue to shoot sunshine your way.....(pointing my butt east)...dont mistake it for thunder

sorry bout the burn

tell your wife Karebare says KICK ASS on the weight loss!!!

hi cabbie, i hear you about the sunburn. i had blisters on my back a couple of weeks ago just from being in the garden all day. congrats to your wife on the weight loss! i think it's fantastic that you're losing weight together.

i started a couch to 5k program and im just finishing up week 2 (ive been doing each week twice). im really surprised at my endurance. i even recently participated in a 2.2 mile run/walk race over the 4th of july and came in 36th place out of 70-something people. i ran 3/4 of the course, and felt pretty damn proud for completing it.

i still ride my bicycle everywhere, but being that it's a mountain bike (and an older one at that), im nervous about taking it too far out, but i figure every little bit counts.

anyway, take care and i hope you and the wife keep shedding those pounds :)

You always crack me up.

BTW, she went for an appt today and she saw her before pic. She kept saying, "I don't feel smaller...", now that she's seen the pic, she is finally a believer. She's like," wow, I looked like crap before, why didn't you tell me?"

Umm... number one, because she has always turned me on...
Number 2...

I'm not stupid...

Hungry horrors...

I just feel like everything piece of food I see, is going to end up in my mouth today. I don't know why, but I just can't stop eating...

I dunno, maybe a mood thing because its frigging raining again here for the last couple of days.

I've barely kept my eating in some semblence of control. I'm over my target calories for the day, but still under theoretical maintenance so there shouldn't be any real damage done. It's supposed to be sunny tomorrow afternoon, so I can work on my exercise calorie bank again and reverse the process here.

I definitely have those days where all food finds it's way to me. I hate it. Yesterday was sunny where I was, and today looks good too, so I really hope you have a great day and were/are able to hop on the bike and cycle.
