Office Training

Have you guys ever found anything that works for a sort of 'chair' workouts? I have an office job and spend hours sitting on my arse at my computer, and I'd like to find a way to benefit from that time. That led me to wonder is there anything that actually works that I could do to burn some, albeit small amount, fat or work my abs or something while sitting here?

Thanks

thigh master!!!!!! hahahaha

the only one i can think of is balls or grippers for your wrist streeength. besides that cant think of anything unless you want something to do during a 30 minute break.

Hold a squat or a horse stance for extended periods of time. It will give you a good burn and will make you feel like you're using your body more. You can involve your chair into it if some people will look at you like "WTF?" By going down to sit in your chair but keeping your butt 1 or 2 inches from touching the seat. Try to maintain your balance as you reduce the leaning in your torso. In other words try and look like you're sitting up straight. Hold and repeat.

I don't know about working the abs other than keep them tight to improve posture while sitting. If you want to work them maybe you can like flex and hit yourself...I don't know, lol.

-edit- fixed some spelling errors...balace? Invole? Come on, now.

bucs, are you wanting something that you can do while sitting in your desk or just stuff you can do at work without having a workout facility. If you are gonna do stuf durig your break your optionns will open up drastically.

I don't tend to take breaks. So it was just stuff while I'm sitting here. I had heard many myths and was just kind of curious if I could do something productive while here. It's not that big of a deal since my main work out is in the evenings. I'm just trying to stay motivated.

Thanks

you can do isometric exercises at your desk if it is heavy enough. isometric exercises are movements that would allow stress to a muscle without changing the length of the muscle. One example would be to place your hand palm up onto the bottom of your desk. Next you will flex your arm like your doing a bicep curl. the bicep will get work even though your arm is not really moving. the one thing you need to make sure you do is change the angles that you do isometric lifts. Youo can do this with virtually can body part as long as you have something to hold your body part.

I too suffer away daily in a small cubicle in a relatively motionless state all day and am interested in trying the ideas some of you have mentioned. If anyone comes up with any more ideas, please post them. I'll try just about anything I can get away with in my cube, despite how ridiculous it may look. If people don't like the strange fitness show I'm putting on they can look somewhere else.

One suggestion I do have, bucs, is to make drinking as much water as possible a personal daily goal. Water is extremely important to getting (and staying) healthy and you can consume a fairly good amount while sitting at the office. Doing so encourages you to get up more often for frequent trips to the water cooler and equally frequent trips to the bathroom.

Of course I'll still exercise in the mornings and evenings, but I like the idea of finding ways to accomplish SOMETHING useful for my body during the work day.
