Numb Wrists

For the last week or 2, when I lift weights I've noticed my right wrist gets numb and tingly. So much so that yesterday I almost had to stop in the middle of my set bc. I've noticed it doing the bench press and shoulder press with dumbbells. I've lifted for years and have never had this problem. Does anyone have any ideas about what it could be or have gone through something similar???

maybe carpal tunnel syndrome?
The passage into the hand is already pretty tight so any swelling or increase in pressure will effect your wrist/hand

Have you tried stretching? Your hands, fingers, gently pulling them? Keeping your arm extended out, holding on to your hand and fingers while gently pulling your hand in. Keep gently shacking the hand and making a fist? Flexibility is the key! Ice it for a day or two, then go with heat! You may want to have it looked at. These are the thing I do when I have this happen to me. Hope this helps!

Sounds like carpel tunnel, though if you are also experiencing any pain, swelling, or bruising then you could have a wrist (stress) fracture. There are actually a whole slew of wrist maladies, so if it doesn't get better with a little R.I.C.E. (rest, ice, compression, elevation) over about a week then get it looked at.

Quite frankly, if this keeps up it's really important to get a doctor's opinion on this because it is very dangerous trying to support weights held over you if there are any signs of weakening/numbness in your arms and hands because you could drop the weights on you.

ahh I hope it's not carpal tunnel ... I'm really scared :(

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I'll definitely give them a try and see what happens tomorrow when I do weights again. I'm just really nervous :(

If you're that worried about it, you need to stop lifting and get it looked at by a professional. If nothing else, get to the store and by some forearm braces designed for relieving carpal tunnel.

Good luck!
