Not sure where to post this, so....

Ok, I have only been around these parts now for some 24 hours. I have spent a god deal of time reading through the site, doing the best I can to familiarize myself with how it works and the flow in which buisness is conducted here. I think I have a feel for that, but time will aid me in settling in.

One thing I would like to point out, however, is the confusion that many of the threads I have read seem to have left me in. I'm not looking for clarifaction on anything in particular within this thread, but would only like to point out that as someone, myself, that has learned alot about many of the things dicussed here I find it hard to follow many of the threads. I find that some of the lingo used is differant then I have read in books, magazines and even on some other sites. I have also found it confusing that within some threads the OP will pose a question, only to be given 2 or 3 options....sometimes 4 or 5 ways to go about attacking their issue. I'm not talking about folks presenting options, but blatently saying that the advice just given by the prior postee was off target. This happens a few times within a thread and it is very counter productive, especialy to those who are just now forming the foundation for their health plan attack and are seeking out advice. Don't get me wrong, I understand that some things are black and white....but not everything related to ones fitness and what works best is. We all understand that to some extent.

I'm sure there are many educated and knowledgeable folks here, by all accounts that appears to be the case. Having particpated on several other types of forums not relating to fitness, I can tell you the ones that survive and flurish are the ones that lack the urination contest that can often come about. Oh, and the obligatory picture of me...yeah I know, it sucks...but it's all I have handy at the moment. :SaiyanSmilie_anim:

Do you live in a sauna? :yelrotflmao:

Kinda like Tom Cruise in Risky Business....LOL jk ;)

Anyway, welcome to the forum!

You will find that there are MANY different theories, studies, formulas, etc etc etc....yadda yadda yadda, in the fitness world. While most of them can be on target with what your goals are, you are going to just have to plan an approach for yourself and do it the good ol' trial and error way. At the end of the day, you could have read every fitness theory that is out there but you will not know if it works for YOU unless you actually put it to work and evaluate from there.

A good way to measure progress is through measurements, weight scale, bodyfat, etc...or you can just use the good old mirror like I do.

So, my advice to you would be don't let everyones OPINION discourage you from starting a training/diet approach. Plan it yourself based on what YOU believe in what you have read and then implement your plan and track your progress. You can always make changes after a few weeks if you need to tweak your approach for any reason.

I take it everyone likes my purse?

:D

I have no issue with a melting pot of ideology. What works for you may not work for me...it's as simple as that. At some point in this process folks will see it first hand and understand that this is a reality of this journey. What I am trying to point out is the manner in which conflicting ideas are merged and how to manged that. Go about it the way it has always been...I'm fine with that. But, keep in mind that many others will see the exchange and be turned off and likely never return. I have read a handful of threads here where the OP started the thread, only to not show back up. Within this same thread a pissing contest took place....the dots are easy to connect. Look, I have played on other forums and understand fully that one must posess a thick skin and understand the flow of conversation where written words are the only thing we have to communicate emotion and consideration. I understand how little groups can form and how hatred for someone can be brewed and allowed to get in the way of many things...I have seen it, lived it....it's actuality.

Not trying to change the game my friends, just trying to be of some help in that regard. Otherwise, I think this site is great and I am looking forward to my tenure here. i think you will find that I have some seriously thick skin and can dish and take with the best of them.....:beerchug:

If that's the case - and if you have a genuine interest, curiosity in the thread topic - just post some questions etc. so it's not so " hard to follow ".

We're here to help.:)

I find that some of the lingo used is differant then I have read in books, magazines and even on some other sites.

I think this is actually quite common.

Many " books, magazines and even on some other sites " can use a variety of terms / phrases to describe pretty much the same thing.

That certainly isn't something unique to this forum IMO.

I have also found it confusing that within some threads the OP will pose a question, only to be given ....sometimes 4 or 5 ways to go about attacking their issue.

Which is a real ' plus ' IMO - there's always more than one way to skin a cat. ;)

I'm not talking about folks presenting options, but blatently saying that the advice just given by the prior postee was off target.

For good reason IMO.

Sometimes it is - i.e ' off target ' - as some of the advice / info provided by some members is simply ' factually incorrect '.

Beyond that - factual errors - everyone is entitled to an opinion.

This happens a few times within a thread and it is very counter productive, especialy to those who are just now forming the foundation for their health plan attack and are seeking out advice. I would agree - and that is why you can get 4 or 5 opinions that are all equally valid

I'm sure there are many educated and knowledgeable folks here, by all accounts that appears to be the case. Having particpated on several other types of forums not relating to fitness,

I can tell you the ones that survive and flurish are the ones that lack the urination contest that can often come about.

I couldn't agree more.

One reason, I suspect, why THIS forum is doing as well - i.e " surviving and flourishingly " - as it is.
