Not paying social security

Is there anyone on the forum that used to pay social security that does no longer? I'm wanting to stop paying into this horrid tax, but I'm not having any luck finding out the course of action.
 
Question 1 - Is it considered a tax or is it called another name since you are supposed to get it back in a way?

Question 2 - There's a way to not pay it?!?!?!
 
Th only way I know is to work for the government. I used to work for the county and paid into PERS instead...which actually is a decent investment.

Well, actually, once you make over a certain amount (school administrators can hit this, but not very many teachers), you don't pay any more SS.
