Not nessisarily weights but...

Ok. So whenever I do ANY ab exercise, my upper back hurts like crazy. I have used every machine at my gym and have tried over 10 different floor exercises. I know it's not a form issue because that was like the first thing I checked into. I have tried using extra support for my back but to no avail. Basically, long before my abs even realize that there getting a workout, my mid/upper back gets unbearable pain and I have to stop. It kinda sucks cuz I have had a nice sixpack thats slowly disappearing. This splendid little phenomena has been going on for about 1-2 years. Other than that, I have no back pains and consider myself very healthy/athletic.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Michael

Assuming you know what you're doing...Fight through it! The pain will go away after a few weeks. Suck it up and keep up the ab exercises.

My first advice is dont listen to this ^ The pain has been there for 1-2 years. At least explain to the OP your theory on why this will go away in a couple weeks.

OP- real advice is if you have tried everything to divert the pain and its not going away. See a Dr. or a chiropractor to see if theres a real problem when there is stress put on that area, this way you will avoid further injury.

Back injury = no training at all.

What Johnny said.

Agreed. Listen to your body. I'm all for fighting through things and overcoming obstacles and what not, but at some point, you have to draw the line. See a doctor. It's amazing how far people will take the "no pain no gain" theory. Often times, your body is smarter than you.
