No Pain, No Loss?

;)
Hey everyone,

I kind of fell off the map for a couple weeks but I'm back now. I stopped going to the gym for almost two weeks and in that time I managed to get down to 180. I don't know if I was losing muscle or fat but if I had to guess, I'd say muscle since the fat doesn't seem to want to budge.

I haven't been keeping track of what I'm eating or anything. I'll be starting that up again soon.

I just haven't been feeling well and I'm not too happy with being stuck on a plateau with weight loss.

I guess I fell off the wagon.

I feel your pain Sunny ..
I actually just jumped back on the wagon these past two and have lost five pounds in the last week ..so I am thrilled ...

we are going to hike mtn. blue later this week and we are walking tomorrow around the city ...
I hope your wagon isnt as hard to get back on as mine...
I think I hit a period of discouragement ..like SunnyDee said ..but I have learned to watch out and keep on trecking ..

wishing you the best hun

I'm back!! Yay!
Sorry everyone. I've been so busy lately. I'm going to try to keep up on the forums a little better.

I've got some great news.

*Drum roll please*

I've lost 6lbs since I last posted!!!!! :D

I'll explain how I finally broke that 181-183 range later. Right now I have to get back to doing some work.

Thanks you two! :)

So here's what ended up happening: :willy_nilly:
I knew something was wrong with the number of calories I was "supposed to be burning" just by being alive, light office work, etc. When I followed the formulas for weight loss based on the Harris Benedict Equation, I ended up having a hard time losing weight. I've thought for a long time that my metabolism is just plain slow. Instead of spending thousands of dollars on having a doc run tests for me (my health insurance doesn't cover that), I ended up getting a

Everyone familiar with these? If not, I recommend giving the link a look over. Its made a huge difference in my effort of losing weight. Now I lose 1.5-2lbs a week without a whole lot of trying.

As a bit of an experiment, on a day off I decided to wear the bodybugg and relax the whole day to see what my calorie expenditure would be on a day where I did very little. Well, I can't hold completely still all day so the calorie expenditure was a little higher than it would have been if I had managed to be sedentary all day.

Expenditure of a Sedentary day:
Bodybugg calorie expenditure: 1701
Harris Benedict Equation: 1972

There's almost a 300 calorie difference! So when I was doing about a 500 calorie deficit a day (with a margin of error of... lets say 100 calories), some days I was only getting a 130 calorie deficit! :ack2: No wonder I never lost weight.

Anyhow, this little thing is great and I really recommend it to anyone who might be stuck on a plateau or has trouble determining BMR. They aren't cheap, but its less expensive than going to the doc for some tests.

- Sunny :hurray:

Another pound down this morning, bringing me to 174 and only 19lbs to go! Its exciting.
I can officially wear a kid's large shirt! Now if only I could get my pant size to go down.

Oooh ouch that's expensive! But worth it, if you can afford it and it actually works! Glad you're back Sunny and CONGRATS! on the 6 lbs, hope to hear more success soon!

Oops!

How is it that a birthday can turn into a week long celebration? Its so difficult to see everyone on the same night anymore. I ended up going out to eat 4 times in one week for my birthday celebration(s) and gained a pound or two from it. Oops!

Oh well. I started this week off a little shakey on the calorie control. While I had a good mental idea of what I ate yesterday, I didn't really keep track.

The scale said 175 this morning. At least thats a pound down from what it was after my week of celebration. I'm trying to be good but honestly I'm not trying hard enough. I need motivation or a swift kick in the butt. Not sure which will work best.

And here comes Thanksgiving....
I won't be making the family's secret recipe of candied yams. Instead, I'll be making plain baked yams and green beans to go with some turkey. I'll take it easy on the stuffing and maybe have just a little mashed potatoes.

I'm just rambling now. I need to go make dinner.

(I'm praying to see 173 by Sunday. I just have to be good!)

Yeah that pound will go away soon. I'm on a cruise for my birthday so I'll be thrilled if I get away with only a pound.
