New Year, New Start - Success in 2014!

So I'm thinking a New Year deserves a new start since last year was not the best. Maybe this year I will actually start hitting some of my goals! My previous diary is here.

I am 5'2 currently 135 lbs as of today. Starting weight was 145 in August 2013. I have my wedding end of June and my best friends (which I'm a bridesmaid in) end of May. My goal is to hit 115 by end of March at the latest - ideally end of Feb. I MAY be OK when I hit 120 but my goal is 115 until I get to that point.

I slacked last year. Badly with exercise. This year I must do 3 times/week of exercise, preferably cardio for at least 10-30 mins. This is the only way I will lose weight and get toned and into the shape I want. I do have an evening part time job which is somewhat manual which will help with some muscle gain hopefully with the lifting, but my heart rate doesn't get up there which is why I need to do cardio.

My goals and milestones:

I have started a challenge that everyone is welcome to join. This is to ensure I get in 3 workouts a week. It can be found here. It is set for 8 weeks beginning Jan 5th. If you want to join please do, even if just for a portion of the time.

Hopefully by the end of the 8 weeks I will have hit or surpassed my goals and be at the weight I need so I can get my outfit altered for my wedding and be ready for bridesmaid dress job with my friend for hers. While I didn't hit my end of the year goal, and still don't know where the money will come from, I still am doing the $10/lb lost for new clothes (or was it $20?). I think I'll be good with my current ones until I hit my goal, they will just become looser which is fine with me. But if I hit 120 that would be 25 lost from 145 which is $250. Also my fiance I believe said he'd add $150 to it (again dunno where it'll come from but that's OK), and my mom might put some towards it too. But even just the $250 should be enough to get new jeans, dress pants, shirts, maybe a dress or 2 and some skirts. I don't have expensive taste, but I may end up buying less to get some better quality stuff for nice work clothes as I hope to find a new job before the end of the year which is either in payroll or leading to it.

I am not happy with my progress from last year, but these next 8 weeks will be better. They have to be because I'm running out of time. The hardest part will be the exercising and finding something I like to do so I don't put it off all the time and make excuses. Really hoping Saturday brings good news that I've reached my first goal and am back to my lowest of 134. It's only 2 days away but I think I can do it.

Thanks MrVee :)

I'm really hoping I'm successful with the weight loss over the next few weeks. Sari's are not forgiving at all and show off a fair bit of tummy and back!

I'm sari to hear that.

Forgive me, puns are my only weakness. Thankfully they are calorie free.

Good luck for 2014 and for your wedding Icy!

Just one thing; try not to stress about the exercise too much. The only way to build a habit is to be consistent about it, and that'll be a lot easier if it doesn't become a chore to you.

Do what you must, but don't let yourself get burnt out in the process.

On another note, you can get an ad-blocker! I believe 'AdBlock Plus' is fairly popular, and it's free. But you could search and find other options too.

Take care! :)

Oh MrVee. *shakes head*

Thanks Athala! And I shall look into the add blocker.

Not the best start. 135.5 this morning :( but still have hope that tomorrow will be down. Really want to hit 134 again. Super tired but hopefully I'll find time to find and do a workout I will enjoy.

I think that 10 pounds on someone who is 5'2" can really be noticed! I bet your weight loss is more noticeable than you think! My body type has changed a bit. I used to carry more weight in my butt and thighs, always had a flat stomach. That has changed and my lower body is pretty thin and the weight is more in my stomach. I must say that it is more difficult to dress with the weight in the stomach and I never would have guessed that before.

Clothes that show some tummy can be more difficult to wear for me too.

I'm very curious about what your Sari will look like. Is this the an Indian Sari? Do you have a picture of the one you will wear or maybe one that looks close? If this is what I think it is, those are so very beautiful!

I love weddings! I'm excited for you! :hurray:

It is an indian sari. It's not super over the top like many do for weddings but it is very me with a lot of design but on the smaller/simpler side rather than big jewels/gems everywhere which can look tacky/gaudy to me.

It's not of me wearing it, but basically the full material is like that all over. And it was less than $200, but I still need to pay to get the shirt made which will be done after I lose the weight - one of the reasons I need to get on that. There is still so much to do for the wedding it is insane!

As for weight...not the best start so far. 135.5 yesterday which is the same as last week. Today I'm at 137 - hoping it's due to excess salt? I dunno. But these numbers really need to start going DOWN. Lots of laundry and cleaning to do at home today, couple of errands to run, no idea what to do for dinners today and this week. And with my challenge starts (please feel free to join us - link in my sig) I need to make sure I start working out at work tomorrow which should hopefully get the scale going in the right direction.

Came across this link on Facebook . At 1AM and I must leave the house by 8AM. I think it is so freaking true and I need to re-read part 2 when at work tomorrow because I need to sleep now. But I swear this has been me forever. When I was in school, often with work projects, with workouts, with house cleaning. EVERYTHING! If I think something will take 30mins, I start it about 30mins before it needs to be done, if not less like 15mns. I need to STOP this because it would give me much more time to do things I already do and MORE, but I wouldn't feel guilty. Must put into practice tomorrow (well I guess later today?).

Good night all! Hope you all had a great weekend.

Oh that's an interesting topic! I do tend to procrastinate a lot, as well... :biggrinjester:

Wish I could help you, but I don't really know how to stop it myself...

Still, best of luck to you Icy. Hopefully you'll find something useful. :)

Your sari is very pretty! I'm one workout down and 55 to go.

From part 2 of the blog article you posted on procrastination.

"Nearly every big undertaking can be boiled down to a core unit of progress—its brick. A 45-minute gym visit is the brick of getting in great shape."

Good luck!

Thanks Quercus :) It's not nearly as elaborate as other people do, but as I said it's very me and that's what matters!

It is true...everything can be brought down to much smaller individual steps that end up with the final result you desire. The 45 minute gym visit involves grabbing work out clothes, getting into vehicle, driving to gym, changing, and then proceeding to Xmins or whatever machines and that's that. Will read the rest of the blog (have a quote to work on for work) and then will search some fun cardio workouts and see what I find for today! Not feeling super energetic, and need to drink a bunch of water I think, but I am determined to do SOMETHING for a workout today. Can't keep saying I'll do it tomorrow because tomorrow never comes and I do NOT want to look like this even 2 weeks from now. I NEED to start seeing real changes on the scale and in the mirror.

Oh and I was 136 this morning. Lower than yesterday which is great, but still 2 off my low and 4 off my Saturday goal.

I had typed a post yesterday Icy, but must have lost it somehow! :blush5: LOVE your sari! xo Cate

Thanks Cate!

"Procrastinators love planning, quite simply because planning does not involve doing, and doing is the procrastinator’s Kryptonite."
I really do love planning and making lists - it makes me feel like if I do that I will be able to actually do the items on the list. But it often doesn't work and I just end up with a million lists of things I should be doing and none of them getting done.

So...the day ended up super busy and now I leave in 5 mins for the second job and did NOT get any sort of a workout in what so ever. And still have work being left to be dealt with tomorrow :( NOT COOL! Must plan better tomorrow and do some searching during my brief break tonight for a workout I want to try. Otherwise I will find one on Fitness Blender and just go at it tomorrow afternoon. 1PM is my deadline. Between Noon and 1 PM I will take a break, lock the door, and do some sort of a workout. NO MORE EXCUSES! Excuses get me nowhere. Alarm reminder set!

I have seen people exhaust themselves just with thoughts of what is to be done. By the time they should be doing what they have planned they are overwhelmed and exhausted.

I think it would be very hard to workout during work. I don't think I could do that. Then again after a workout I am drenched, so my make up and hair would be a mess :)

For me what does work is attacking it first thing in the morning, although I have to get up very early. But I am also kind of on auto pilot. I don't think about it, I just do it. The night before I may check the weather in order to form a pseudo plan...like inside or outside workout. But that's kind of it.

I know I will brush my teeth tomorrow and I know I will workout. And I know the workout will be at least an hour. I am like a robot. I find that in order to accomplish different goals that works best for me. Loose plan, then just force all of those kind of racing thoughts out of my head and just go full on JadeLynn Robot Style. It just is going to be that way and my family, friends and fiance know that.

I need to be more robot like with food! That part I can give no advice on! :)

The fabric for your sari is absolutely beautiful!!!

Thanks Jade :)

I know it sounds like excuses and maybe that's what it is but I can't work out in the morning. FBIL and I are up and leave around the sae time. I would not have the privacy I need to work out in the basement. Waking up earlier isn't too helpful either with when I go to bed. Maybe I need to start coming home over lunch and doing a workout. Though days like today I want to come home and take a nap! So tired!! 6.5 hrs at staples. Left about midnight and didn't sleep until 1ish. But gotta finish getting ready for work so will post more later.

Oh and 135 today. Perhaps this lb a day will keep going? But I doubt it, I'm just catching up to my lowest I think.

I just want to thank you for mentioning Fitness Blender. I checked it out, and will definitely be using that at some point. Thanks!! :)
