LOL hey guys! Sorry sorry sorry sorry for disappearing.
Feb was dreadful. My daughter was in hospital (she's only 8 :( ) for 8 days with an obstructed bowel then they transferred her to a specialist childrens hospital to the surgical unit thinking they might need to remove part of her colon...but thank god it started to turn around and we're now back at home and she's recovering. PHEW!

So, I spent most of Feb eating terrible hospital food (why oh why isn't it healthier>?!) or chocolate to get me through the nights - sometimes she was up being sick every hour or I had to watch the meds they were pumping into her were right. But since coming back home, although she tested negative for celiacs disease antibodies, we've cut wheat out....so no bread, no pasta, no products that have a lot of added wheat flour. I'm not 100% fanatical about it as she doesn't seem to react strongly to a little bit - but maybe the build up over time instead. It seems to be working - she feels less sick and her system is getting back to normalish...even though she is still on a combo of drugs.

As you can imagine, this has meant a huge diet change for me. I am following the Harcombe Diet (similar to Primal Diet/no processed junk or mixing protein/fat and carbs), I read the book "Wheat Belly" - would really recommend it...very interesting. Since cutting wheat, sugar and artificial sweetners out of my diet a few interesting things have happened:

1) I noticed what a load of junk they put in low fat diet products
2) how much nicer food tastes when its high quality organic veg and cooked with a real array of proper herbs and spices
3) that I don't get sleepy or dizzy mid afternoon or mid morning any more
4) that I can eat fried bacon, steaks, chicken, CHICKEN SKIN (!), eggs and cheese and still lose weight
5) that I don't miss chocolate that much (a bit of 85% dark chocolate usually does the trick)
6) that I don't CRAVE cakes, biscuits, puddings, bread, stodge...you know all the stodgy heavy stuff
7) that I sleep well and get up quite awake at 5.30am for work
8) that my food bill has gone up - I eat less overall but more of little portions of expensive nice stuff.
9) I don't get many spots or candida related stuff
10) I am less hungry and have less inclination to snack - scrambled eggs with butter and chives and smoked salmon at 6am keeps me going until lunchtime easily
11) I AM LOSING WEIGHT!

Yep. I went from 203 last time I posted to 208 in mid Feb and I am now.......

196lbs

The next stage is to get back to doing some running!!

X-update next post = I have to get back to work!!

So a good day today.

Food was overall healthy:
Breakfast - smoked mackeral
Lunch - cheese, some lean beef slices and tomatoes
Dinner (at a vegan restaurant!) - brushetta with onions, garlic and tomatoes, spinach and mushroom topped with sliced potato, hemp & apple muffin with apple sorbet (all these were very fresh healthy ingredients and quick small portions)
1/2 pint of pear cider
Snack - twirl chocolate bar
4 cups of tea

Apart from the treat chocolate and pear cider (because it is a Friday and I have a once a week treat) , I stuck to the Harcombe Diet, didn't mix any fat with carbohydrates and don't feel hungry or bloated now. This is a lifestyle "diet" I could really stick to long term.

Hey you, I read your post a lot earlier but I was in a hurry I couldn't respond.
You seem to have had a terrible February - I am so glad that things are getting better & the changes you made are for your and your family's benefit.
We went organic (as much as possible) over a year ago - and we see loads of benefits. E.g.I have not been sick/got a cold ever since. My problem area is exercising... I got the food (most of the time) worked out to perfection. I am working on beating my Starbucks addiction right now. (only developed in the past few weeks since I gave up chocolate for Lent - I too eat dark chocolate)
I totally agree with all the points you made - especially the bill...we currently spend the double! on food than on accommodation - but I guess it's all about priorities.
Keep up the good work :seeya:

Hey jjjay, caught up on your diary and just wanted to say you can do this!! I know the feeling about wearing bigger size clothes and wanting to get back into a smaller number. I have a whole storage shed full of boxes with clothes from when I was much thinner. I refuse to throw or give them away.....I've made up my mind that I WILL get back into them!

You are gonna do fab!!

Hey Jay

Wow that was a great weight loss congrats.....I think you are right about the fat free diet foods and they add to it!!! Keep up the good work!

Hi guys, thanks for the posts.

Justina - nothing tastes better than a properly grown organic tomato...it amazes me how engineered and tasteless the normal ones are - and this goes for a lot of fruit and veg - they may LOOK perfect but taste bland and rubbish. I have come roudn to thinking that i'd rather eat a little of really nice quality expensive stuff than loads of cheap nasty stuff. I couldn't beat my coffee addiction, so I went competely cold turkey. I do a lot of "catch up for a quick coffee" for professional networking and I've just had to switch to tea or camomile instead. It was crazy - I was drinking like 5 cups of coffee a day!

Hey Mands - you are so right! I have boxes of amazing clothes that I can't wait to get back into. Most of all, I have some motorbike trousers that I WILL fit into this summer. There's a residential work event I want to roar up to on my motorbike and I can't be fat girl on a bike...it just doesn't rock the same image!

Hi Verobc! Hope thigns are going well for you. Thanks for the congrats - just need to keep it going in that direction! I'm avoiding all weight loss foods - skinny people don't eat them! I'm convinced that healthy eating for life is the right way forward.

Today was a good day!
2 eggs for breakfast. I cooked some lean bacon as well but just couldn't eat it.
Avoided the biscuits at my meeting today, but did have 4 cups of tea...not great on the caffine front!
Beef brisket and beetroot hash for lunch (gastro-pub grub!) but I fished out all of the potato so hopefully pretty carb free
Dinner was lamb steak with 4 squares of dark chocolate

I did however survive a train ride back north without buying any snacks. In fact, I have eaten three meals and no snacks today!

197 on the scales this morning. Pah...GO DOWN AGAIN!! Although that is only 0.6lb more than last weigh in so I can't complain!

When the snow clears up I'm going out running. That's the bit that's missing for me at the moment.

OOh and a guy at my meeting today was dropping some pretty heavy hints about us meeting up for dinner or having a drink next time we were in the same city. He was very charming actually in a low key non-slimey kind of way.

Hey yay! Things are going well for you - i ma so happy for you! I love organic foods..& we are eating less - but good quality - so I don't feel bad. & i actually dont mind if my orange or tomato is not perfect looking - :) Have you thought about herbal coffee? I am loving my choice - it's actually good for you (alkalizing) and they have it in many varieties - I have the vanilla flavored one :)

Not snacking on the train!! Kudos to you!! :)
Well down on the loss ( a loss is loss - enjoy it!)
I hope you get to meet that charming guy again soon!

Keep up the good work!

wooohooo!!

195.7 this morning! And I made delicious low carb / low GI banana muffins last night with almond flour. It's going....slowly....but every lb counts! Rather down than up! I'm determined to claw my way into the 180s...ounce by ounce!

Justina, I'm sure I will - he's invited me to be a guest speaker at a conference he is running next month. He's not quite Mr X, but its just nice to be flirted with - makes me feel that the weight loss is worth it, that I'm not invisible and gives me a bounce in my step. It's nothing more than that :)

Thanks for the herbal coffee tip, I'll keep an eye out for it!

Hey Jayy!!!

Congrats on the loss...we are about the same weight now!! I love the idea of eating organic...unfortunately for me I live in the middle of nowhere so reg fruits and veggies are all I get on a regular basis but let tell you when we have to go to the city I come back with a lot of organic...gotta look into that coffee cause I too am addicted to the stuff!!! Congrats again!

Fitted into an older (smaller) pair of jeans today - obviously not a goal pair or anything, but some that I had to put away again when I regained weight. So I'm feeling good :)

Fasted for 24 hours from 8pm on Weds until 6pm on Thurs - just had 200 cals of salad for lunch and lots of water. Then at 6 I ate a few jelly belly beans as a treat and headed out for a chinese. I wasn't tempted at all by rice or noodles or pancakes with duck so I just stuck to some of the meat and veg dishes and tried not to have too much sauce. Not an ideal meal but far better than it could have been. 197 on the scales this mornign which makes sense - I shouldn't weigh myself very often as I know it fluctuates by a few lbs!

Off on hols today so not sure what access I'll have to posting. Going to try and eat really healthily though and not get into the mentality of loads of "treats". Taking my running gear too....we shall see....hehe

Hey JJjay!
Congratulations on getting into those smaller jeans! Don't belittle your accomplishments girl! Take success where you can get it! The mini goals will add up when you keep making good choices! Be careful on the fasting...someone told me once...under eating always leads to over eating.
Sarah

Yay! for fitting into your old pair of jeans.
You did a great job when eating out - I find it hard sometime to behave so good on you.
Enjoy your vacation!!

I just love that feeling on fitting in those once too small pants!!! Soon those will be to big! Congrats
