New Year, New Me!

Hey Korrie,
Good job on making the decision to make a lifestyle change...and after all, that's what will last, when you make a new way of eating into a habit, into a lifestyle. I've been at this new lifestyle for about 19 months, and I can honestly say, I've made it a life style change. That is 2 Christmas seasons eating sensibly and not going crazy then feeling regret afterwards...all of which happened in the past. It's a new year, and you've already made a good head start on all the resolution people, so you're off to a great start! I would encourage you to write down your weighloss goals..long term, medium and short term..not just what you want, but also how and why you want.and for good measure, throw in what will happen of you don't lose the weight. It's good to put it in writing with a date on it, and refer back to it when you're feeling frustrated or particularly up. Print it out and put it where you can see it every day...to help keep focus on those "big eating occasions". There is no magic, and we'll help you along the way! After just shy of 100 pounds lost, I can tell you that it is soooo worth it! I've still got a little over 20 to go, but one day at a time, I'm getting there...it's a journey, not a race...I have to constantly remind myself of that!
Looking forward to hearing from you along your way!
Sarah

thanks Sarah for stopping by :) yea, I can't even imagine going back to the 'old' way of eating! Congrats on your loss though, how cool is that! thanks for the suggestion...I do write everything down that I eat, but maybe I can keep track of those other things as well?

SO far so great on the change...friday will be my 1st weigh in since the lifestyle change started. My goal is 2 lbs and I'm not gonna set myself up for failure by hoping that I lost more than that. If I keep losing 2 lbs a week, I"ll be at my long term goal in a year from now.

Hi Korrie - so great to see U really committed to "healthy" changes. Don't worry about many attempts over the past - just trust in yourself- and stay on track - eventually other's will see that you are serious- just might take a bit of time - I know my hubby didn't "believe" I was serious this time around until I was about 5 months into it...so just stay your course...

Daily posting here is a big motivator & focus for me.... it really helps to keep the mind on "healthY"... as a moderator here yourself - I'm sure you know how helpful the support on here is , and what great info there is on here...

Planning/making supper ahead is so smart - I find too that when I've not planned- I just get too Hungree trying to wait/make a last-minute supper - ... I'll have to check out Pinterest for recipes- it sounds like a good site.

& as Sarah says....It's a Journey , not a Race.... those are words of wisdom to me.... when I tried to lose in the past- I always put pressure on myself - to reach a certain weight by a certain time/date...just got really stressed - now I am just living healthy- the goal weight will happen when I get there - am just enjoying the peace-of-mind knowing I am living "healthy" every day now.
I follow a daily calorie goal, chose healthy, high-fibre , low-fat, non-processed foods, and am sure to include at least 1/2hr exercise daily...I'm not losing super-fast, but I am losing- and it's a routine that feels good & that I can keep on doing for life - like U - I made up my mind that I have had enuf of my "old ways"...time to change for good - permanently .

Sounds like U are a pretty busy Mom - don't know how much time you have - but here are a couple books & some on-line stuff that I am finding good motivation & learning.

books: The Rotation Diet/Martin Katahn PhD ( book has a super-low menu plan- was too low for me, but also has great info on the author's weight-loss journey, and good overview of weight-loss - what works),
The End of Overeating /David A. Kessler MD ( author is a former FDA commissioner and dean of Medicine -very knowledgeable book about overeating and fast-food/processed food - I am still working thru it- very insightful)

On-line -
U-tube - 23 & 1/2hours - 9minute video clip about the health benefits of just 30mins. exercise /day- ** ( everytime I start to lose motivation on the exercise - I watch this one...)
Fat2Fit Radio - podcasts -nice 'n short - ~ 10mins-20mins - good info- no hype - 2 dudes- their journeys - & tons of info for weight-loss - nice sensible motivation.
Enjoying Weight Loss/Dr.Roberta Temes PhD - "hypnosis"/relaxation recordings - I'm not usually "into" this kind of stuff - but I do find , if you have time ,(the recordings are approx.20mins each) - the recordings are really relaxing/de-stress time - and good positive re-inforcement for healthy behaviors.

Good weight-loss/calorie budget calculator ( from MrVee's diary) ( I've tried a few different ones- but this one gave me the most accurate (and effective) calorie-exercise plan --

keep up your great plan Korrie -
looking forward to our "healthy" journeys together.
cheers, Maryann

Jericho...we can and we WILL!!!!

Thanks so much for the post MaryAnn!!! I really appreciate it! While I am a busy mom, my girls are in school 8 hrs a day, so I have lots of free time too...so I'll check out those suggestions! You really should check out Pinterest, its awesome!! I like your quote (sarahs quote) too! I used to think that life was a marthon, not a sprint...but in truth, life is neither of those...life is not a race at all...there is no destination, no matter how far away or how slow you take it...life is always moving always changing! Thanks again for stopping by friend :)

thanks, well its funny because when we used to go low-cal...we'd still have a daily pop and other junk, but we'd count the cals. This time around, we are strictly big on veggies, protein and some low fat meat at dinner like chicken or roast....and the difference in how I feel is like night and day! NOW I can finally see what all the fuss is about, lol

Yay Korrie !....yes , it really is neat when you actually "feel" the difference that healthy eats gives ya !
keep up the great work- U are rolling now girlie !

& the doctor's I work with are really down on pop- they say it is poison in a can!! ....just too many chemicals (in both the diet stuff & the full-cal version)... good work on skipping the pop !

Hey Korrie - great that you are feeling so positive and motivated! Ride the wave! It's all about frame of mind - that comes first and the rest just follows!

No worries, I'm sure we'll both lose those amounts during the competition. I mean, we are teammates now, so I expect us to win.

Hey Korrie - great work on 6 lbs. lost - .... U are on the right-track !
..keep the good-work rolling - ...and yup- sometimes the first-week loss on healthy eats is a fair-amount of water loss ( from less salt/refined carbs now ).... but whatever it is/was - it is gone !!
~ all those crock-pot healthy suppers paid off ....
