New to weight training, can anyone recommend a workout?

Im fairly new, but i have been working out by doing push ups and a little bit of abs for like 5-6 months now, so the conditioning is there. But I just got gym access and id like someone to recommend a good and affective routine. Im primarily working on increasing strength, not so much the looks, but i'll tone myself and lose a little excess weight by doing running and basketball. But what exercises should i do to increase strength? unfortunately my gym doesnt have a bench press, but we do have dumbells so i can use that to work on chest, but id prefer to stick with my push up routine by adding more weight in a back pack. So with the push ups included, what do you guys think is a good routine to start with? Thanks in advance.....

Doing pushups and abs doesn't really cut it if you want to gain strength. Look at by Mark Rippetoe for a good "starter" basic strength program.

Once you have the basics of squats, deads, rows, bench, overhead press covered you can look at something else but for now start with the basics.

hey thanks for the advice but my gym doesnt have bench press so even do dead lifts, but yuh thanks though....

This is the weight training section so you would be advised to look for a proper gym or post in the bodyweight section for stuff you can do with your own bodyweight. Even fitness centres these days have places you can squat, bench and do deadlifts.
