Hello all,
I am new to these forums but reading a lot of the stories I feel obligated to share mine as well.
I have always been big. I was born a 10lbs 6oz baby 30 years ago. Ever since then I have always been bigger then I should be. I think I was 200lbs in 6th grade and standing a whopping 5'3." As I grew up into the high school years I was about 300lbs my junior year and about 5'6" when a devastating football injury destroyed my ankle to the point of replacement with Titanium and Teflon. I swelled another 25lbs when I graduated high school at 5'6" and 325lbs.
In the 2 years that followed I grew from 5'6" to 6'5" and retained my weight. I looked a little slimmer and thought to myself maybe this is why I was soo fat all those years to fit into my new body. I worked at UPS nights after college for the money and the insurance. During these days though, I ate what I wanted and drank every friday with the guys. In 1999, I finished my college life and went to work at a company as a computer technician and have since become a Network Administrator.
Within the last year, I have had chronic ankle pain to the point where it hurt to walk. The pain would come and go, but it was severe. 5 weeks and 3 days ago, I went into the doctor to see what was going on. I then found out that I have cartilage damage on the rotating bone that helps your foot rotate up and down. Doctor said it that my weight wasn't really helping it.
This doctor's visit was my catalyst. When the nurse went to weigh me they could not. The sliding weight scale they had did not go above 350lbs. I could not believe I weighed soo much. So after having to use a "special" scale at the hospital, I found I weighed in at 368lbs. I was astounded.
The very next day, I stopped drinking soda. I only drink water and Ice Tea now. I picked up fruits and vegetables, lean cuisine meals for my supper, fibre cereals, light yogurts and string cheese. I started membership at gym that my company owns, and have been using the treadmill (currently doing 3miles a day @ 4mph) and attending core fitness classes on tuesday and thursdays.
I am happy to report that in 5 weeks and 3 days I am down to 340lbs even for a net loss of 28lbs. Looking at these stories on this board, I am very motivated to keep going, and look forward to sharing my story and reading all of yours.
Thanks to everyone for everything you have been posting.
