New life

Hi, im Dillon, an 18 years old and really want to make a new life for myself.

I've always been VERY skinny, with a ridiculous metabolism that makes it almost impossible to gain weight. I've been a 130 pounds and 5'11 for a long time. I want to gain weight and muscle, im sick of this.

I want a turn around, I want woman to notice me, I want to feel confident, and manly :p

I've been searching all over the internet ALL DAY and my new regime starts tomorrow.

I just want some reassurance from some actual people, and some help on planning a work-out and diet I can achieve.

1. I'm going to cut out all soda, and other things of that nature, and start drinking lots more water throughout the day
2. I'm going to cut out fast food and all that other junk food.
Here's what I can easily prepare for myself for meals.
Fruits, vegetables, beef, chicken, turkey, EGGS!(lots of eggs) milk, and protien shakes(any thing else would be helpful) as small meals throughout the day.
Carbs to my understanding are the bodies energy, and should be eaten only if you intend to workout? (and never before bed) Which would include for me.
orange juice, table sugar, nonfat milk, pears, strawberries, whole-wheat bread, apple pie, biscuits, muffin, honey, (again anything else would be helpful, anything for an 18 year old who can barley cook :p)
3. Running every morning... It's so cliche that it can't be avoided :p. I guess its to build endurance and make you feel healthier?
4. Full body work-out at the gym every other day. I guess if the results kick in I wont be humiliated for to long at the gym :p but here is a nice plan(I think anyway) that I found on the internet, that sounds good
Bench press 3 sets of 10 reps (for the chest)
Pull downs 3 sets of 10 reps (for the back)
Military press 3 sets of 10 reps (for the shoulders)
Crunches 3 sets of 25-50 reps (for the abdominals)
Squats 3 sets of 10 reps (for the quadriceps)
Leg curls 3 sets of 10 reps (for the hamstrings)
Barbell curls 3 sets of 10 reps (for the biceps)
Triceps push downs 3 sets of 10 reps (for the triceps)
Standing calve raises 3 sets of 15 reps (for the calves)

That's it I guess, i'm just going to eat healthy through-out the day (5-6 smaller meals through the day is better i've read) and try my best to bulk up a little.

Now, i know LITTLE to NOTHING about weight training lingo, so you might have to bear with me, or explain some stuff to me :p

I'm not trying to go die-hard body builder, I just want to feel a little better and look a little better is all. I'm not really interested in tracking my calories or anything like that on massive charts, i just generally want a better diet and a better lifestyle.

Thanks in advance for anyone that is willing to help give me pointers or recommendations on this issue

one day a week, do deadlifts instead of squats. that routine dident look too bad. You might want some rows, not just pulldowns though, this also you can alternate, do pulldowns/pullups one workout, and rows the other workouts, or the other way around.
Ill take a closer look at the thread when i get home from school.

karkys correct alternate deadlifts and squats..i do them on the same day but some find it to stressfull on there back.
if its size you want drop arm isos do mostly compounds
squat or deadlift
bench-press
pulldowns or chins
shoulder-press
bent-over-rows
calf raises
eat clen food always have pre and post protein /carb meals or shakes.

Some people bitch at me for recommending others to spend money on a book, but it sounds like you could benefit from "Scrawny to Brawny." It's written by Mike Meija and Dr. John Berardi and they focus on the hardgainer. It comes highly recommended for guys who have trouble putting on mass.

Dillon,

If it is a "new life" that you are truly after... I aknowledge you and your efforts. Many of us do not realize that upon embarking on a fitness program that the majoity of results will come from how you train the muscle between your ears.

If attracting women, looking good, feeling great, having poweful vitality and prolific energy is what you are after - then make it a REAL goal.

What do I mean bby REAL goal:

1. be as specific about what you want to be,have or do within the next 90 days. you sould be able to account for everything including what type of women are going to be checking you out.

2. contantly affirm and reiterate what it is you are 'up to'. your mind is like a garden, if you dont deliberately plant flowers - it will fill up with weeds by default. write down your affirmations every day.

3. create a detailed plan of action, with check points. this will allow you to W.I.N (focus of Whats Important Now) as well as give you feed back about how closely you are abiding by your commitments and what 'shifts' you may need to make.

4. 'Be', and then the DO and HAVE will follow. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said,"do the thing and you will have the power". in essence he was telling us that if you simply 'act' as if you are what it is you desire to be... you will actually BE it before you know it. your environment and the people in it will be your 'feedback arc'. keep your eyes open for people who begin to respond differently to the 'new you'

ditch the orange juice, and all juices. they have as much sugar as a serving of soda, and hardly any fiber. eat an orange instead.

Thanks for the advice everyone :p

I'm going to go all out and hope for the best I suppose :)
