new idea for rep swapping

This is a serious question that I would like some help with.

we all know that we need to "mix it up" sometimes and not just do 5x5 workouts all the time. I always forget to change my rep scheme cos 5x5 is most enjoyable for me.

so i was thinking if it may be a good idea to start my 5x5 weight, and stick to the same weight, then dont change the weight, when I get stronger I'll manage 5x6 then 4x7 - 4x8 - 4x9 - 3x10, then when I can push out 3x10, go up a weight and start with 5x5 again.

has anyone every tryed this, it will be new to me.
 
ive heard simular things, like this.

you start with 5x3 then work yourself up to 5x8 then put on more weight so ur back down at 5x3 again, and then repeat.
