New guy here! Need some help.

I've never been much into working out, But I think its time I got rid of all this weight. I'm 6'1'' 273 lbs. Pretty over weight. Its almost all in my stomach, My arms and legs are pretty muscular. So building muscle in my routine isn't really a concern right now. I mainly want a fat burning routine/diet so I can drop down to 215.

I've been working out for a week now and this is what I have.

every day (6 days) - (Cardio) 7 minute run/15 minute walk. 7 minutes biking/7 elliptical. 20 minute run/walk

Every other day (3 days) - Above + 10 rep lifts of most muscle groups in between runs. Thighs, shoulders, arms, calf. I don't how much weight on each individual lift off the top of my head, but it leaves my muscles burning after each lift.

One day out of the week I rest.

I've been reading a lot about how its impossible to gain muscle + lose fat at the same time, and since i'm so overweight should I just concentrate on losing the fat and stop lifting all together? If so, what kind of routine?

Also, I've been dieting pretty well, eating mainly vegan/vegetarian. Is this a good idea for weight loss while working out?

Any info would be incredibly helpful. Thanks.

Your cardio seems fine to me. Just remember to run/bike fast enough to keep your intensity at a level to where your burning a significant amount of calories.

Your right, you won't be able to gain muscle while losing your fat BUT do NOT get rid lifting routine. Do some sort of strenth training on a regular basis( full body workout would be advised ) and this is to minimize muscle loss.

If your eating mainly vegan, thats good. but I have a feeling your not getting enough protein for a person your size. Can you give more specifics on what your diet looks like?

You don't want to go below your BMR calorie intake too much and too fast because then you'll also be losing alot of muscle tissue.

But it's great you want to get in shape, keep it up.

I'm guessing i'm burning about 250-350 per workout. (thats what the machines say at least) I try to go as hard as I can so I'm out of breath for most of the workout and constantly burning calories.

what kind of full body work out do you suggest? Is the lifts i'm doing now good enough? I try to work every muscle at least once during the work out.

My diet mainly is vegan, I do eat hard boiled eggs for the lost protein, also whole wheat bread, lots of vegetables and fruits, beans, noodles, starches.

I'm pretty sure i'm below my calorie intake, which bothers me a bit but I'm so worried about my weight I might be over doing it. My intake should be around 2,000 a day I think. I was thinking at least 1,500 would be good enough for a significant weight loss.

Thanks much for the support and information.
