New girl in weight loss city

So today was day one.

I woke up, looked at myself in the mirror and decided I had to put the talk into action. I got on the exercise machine and did 30 minutes of cardio while singing my heart out to awful pop music, then I had a coffee and a shower. Started a personal diary to help with my self esteem and to keep track of what I planned to do.

My goal is to lose 17kgs in 3 months that is 38lbs in american english! That is how much i have gained in the last 2 years due to medication and lack of exercise.

I tidied my room today, made big changes and threw things out. I found photos of myself from the last 15 years. I was so pretty and slim but I never remember feeling that way. So now I have to lose the weight and learn to love myself.

I had a coffee and an apple earlier today. Then a thick tomato soup with sausages in it for lunch. For dinner my bf and I are having stake. I am having mine with salad no dressing. We are eating at 7pm. I plan to do some light exercise before bed a: 5 min warm up, legs, bum and belly work then a stretch and cool down. Shower, and if I get tempted an alcho free beer in front of the tv.

Ill let you know how I did.
Good night from Berlin :seeya:

I don't know what happened to me last night, I had so much energy I could not sleep. I stayed up till 3am watching the killing. That meant that I overslept and did not work out this morning but am going to take a break from lesson planning to get a walk in and a work out later.

Has anyone else had the cant get to sleep issue with doing a work out to close to bed time?

Hi Berlingirl & welcome to the forum. I find exercising makes me want more exercise, which is good during the day, but something I need to avoid at bed-time. I avoid anything that might keep me awake. I never drink coffee after 3pm either. Working on self-esteem is a great idea. For most of us, low self-esteem is the underlying reason we have become overweight in the first place. Be proud of your achievements, however small. Every change you make for the better is a good thing. Being positive about changing your lifestyle will get you further than being down on yourself. Cheers, Cate.

Thank you, great advice.

I did do my work out yesterday and my walk. Legs are aching today. Was not good about food and had another bad nights sleep...I guess I will have to try and get up very early to get some sports in before school.

Hello Berling girl,
You had a great start!!!
We have similar goals. I have to get rid of 12 kilos for summer.

I have sometimes the same problem with falling asleep. I advice to be very active during the day, but then at around 10 or 11 close pc, tv, phone, etc. Relax and get your body relax. Sometimes warm infusions help. :)

That is a good Idea. Routine and switching off. Not red wine! I have been using a glass of wine to ease my muscles and get me sleepy.

I have been getting very sporty, even went for a run yesterday and very strict with my food. Though I think i need some snack ideas.

This week I have lost 1.5kgs :)

Hi Berlingirl! Congrats thats an awesome loss! And good work with the running! (I'm so lazy with that..)

The diets I stick to involve small meals and tons of healthy snacks! I love things like small tubs of yoghurt, rice crackers, fruit cups, cup-soups, cottage cheese, carrots, home-mixed dips and small fruit. Mini sausages and Baby Bel Cheeses in Germany were also great! :)

Buying things that came in small portions helped me a lot! But I struggled to find small individual portions of food when I was in Germany... I had to measure out everything! In Australia everything comes in small servings making it easy.

Good luck! Sounds like you're doing great!

Thank you for all the great snack tips. Will not beat myself up over the bit of cake I had in our team meeting. Just note that I should have taken a snack with me. At least I did a 7min work out when I woke up. Tomorrow will be a 4.30am rise so I can go swimming before work :)

Good morning,
Had a pretty okay week as far as my exercise went. Did get up at 4.30 twice. Had the gym to myself so didn't feel self conscious as all!

Had a tooth out on wed so have not been eating much but have been craving chocolate.

I am really angry with myself I got mega drunk yesterday so am not out running in the sunshine. Not weighing myself while I'm hung over either :(

So glad I forced myself to go out! I managed 7.5kms it was not pretty and I am totally exhausted now. Will weight myself tomorrow to see how the workout helped me :)

Ouch! "Mega drunk?" I can almost feel that hangover :( Good for you, going for the run.

Thanks guys,

Just had my weigh in. Not that pleased. Just under 1kg gone this week. Maybe it was all the booze! Still its a step in the right direction.

Have started using the lifesum app to help me sort out my eating and have also agreed with my best friend to do 10 squats every time I go to the bathroom to add a bit more activity to my day. Am also using the 7 app to force myself to work out more everyday.

Why do I hate thinking about my diet? I am so impulsive with food, it is all or nothing with me so am hoping the app will help me keep track.

Anyway, I seem to have an app for everything now. Reminding me to eat well and to get off my butt to do something active. :jump:

Great little implementations there. Keeps you going, motivated. Any weight loss is good weight loss, I'm glad you see the positive in that. It may not be huge this week, but over time it will add up and your goal will be met. I enjoy the dedication and commitment you have. You'll hit that goal weight in no time. Thanks for sharing your experience so far.

hello folks,

another 0.6kgs gone this week. getting close to 5kgs shed. Still eating crap I should not be but am jumping around full of energy. Bought some weights on ebay to push my home aerobics to the next level.

But what should i be eating? carbs? low carbs what is a healthy weight los diet. SO confused.

Hey there, I honestly don't think there's a right thing to eat as everyone is different and everyone's body is going to respond differently to different things. Whole foods are definitely better than processed so as much whole food as you can get in, the better. For myself personally, I just lost 8lb last week by follow the AIP (auto-immune protocol). It's very strict and only allows meat, lots of veggies, and some fruit (along with some spices, etc.). I'm doing this because I have rheumatoid arthritis, but I suppose anyone could give it a shot and see huge results! In doing research on AIP I came across a page on Facebook called Wheat Belly, I'd definitely urge you to check that out. People have changed their lives around by going that route. Keep working at it. You'll get where you need to be. :)

Hello,

So I spent most of march sick and then I injured my shoulder (too much too soon) but i had physio and I have been walking 8kms 2-3 times a week plus lots of smaller walks and watching what I eat of course and I am back on course.

Will put the new weights away for now and try working against my own body weight until I get my core muscles, keep up the cardio and keep up the healthy eating.

Only lost 1kg in the last month but getting back on track was way more important :)

welcome to the forum Berlingirl. 17kgs in 3 months isn't so easy
be patient & Good luck on your quest.
