Never Ending Quest for Abs

Hey I'm 16 and ive been (somewhat) succesfully heading down the road to the sweet victory of 6 DEFINED Abdominal muscles. I currently am on the cross country team to keep me in shape for basketball, so i run at least 4 times a week, in addition to my membership at the 24 hour fitness where i work out and lift weights around 3 times a week. On saturdays i do both basketball and lift weights. I started an eat healthy plan around 3 months ago, and i have been doing everything I can to get my stupid core looking great. I drink 2 protein shakes a day, and do daily situps and pushops at home. Why can I only see my abs during and right after workouts, if that? It seems like when i look in the mirror from a distance of 7-8 feet, I have the dream abs I've been training for, but when I get closer, only a vague outline. What can i do to change this and have defined abs at any distance? The whole good from far but far from good ideal isn't working for me here, and just saying, its not my vision thats a problem, I just dont understand how my abs aren't as defined as I think they should be by now. Please help, or if you have any workout suggestions that would be most appreciated!

to get a 6-pack, your Body Fat % NEEDS to be less than 10%, think 5-7%. get your BF% calculated(they should be able to do so at the gym) and go from there.

Okay, I haven't gone to the gym but I used an online one, and had my dad measure my waist and stuff, and it says I have 8.5% body fat, so does this mean I need to do more cardio? I never thought this is what was holding me back, because of the whole eating healthy and cross country thing, but thanks if that's my problem.

then, if your body fat percentage is that low- do more ab excercises- i do core(not just abs) every other day. i usually spend about 15-20 minutes on those days just doing core. planks, sit ups, torso rotation, cherry pickers, V-ups, flutter kicks, etc

and i would have your body fat percentage dont by a PT in a gym, not on some online tool. i weighed 205 overseas(all muscle) and the internet told me i was obese. when i got my body fat percentage done it was 7%. moral of the story- have a trained pro do it to make sure its done right and the int. isnt lying to you.
