Need Help

Hey, (i posted this in the new members forum, but im not sure that was the right place)
ill start off telling you some info about myself. Im 16 years old and need to lose weight and build muscle.(high school hockey season is coming up) im 5'8 and 146 pounds. Im trying to get a lower body fat percentage and i have been watching what i eat lately.
I usually eat small meals for breakfast and lunch.. they both add up to about 500 calories usually, then i work out for two hours around 3:00pm. then i eat one big meal at dinner. (oh, and i drink nothing but water)
When i go to work out, i usually spend about 40-50 minutes running/walking. Then i just circle around the gym and do all of the machines. I need advice. is there anything im doing wrong?

thanks

1. Not eating enough meals in the day. You should be eating at least 6 meals/day.
1a. Probably not getting enough protein.
1b. Probably not getting enough low GI carbs.
1c. Probably not regulating fat intake.
1d. Definately not getting enough calories.
2. Walking/running pre-lift.
3. Overtraining on the machines.
4. Using machines instead of free weights.

Some additional advice, break up what you've been eating into 6 meals and add 250 cals/week until you're up to your proper intake.

What I'm doing (and I've lost 10 pounds since starting a few weeks ago after I plateaued at 170) is eating 5-6 smaller meals a day.

Breakfast 7 or 8 am: 300-400 calories
Snack 10 or 11 am: 200-300 calories
Lunch 12 or 1 pm: 400-500 calories
Snack 2 or 3 pm: 200-300 calories
Dinner 5 or 6 pm: 400-500 calories
And Possibly a Snack at 8 ot 9 pm: 100-150 calories
(try to make it something healthy)

That should boost your metabolism. And stay away from pop and fast food. A good workout I think is at this site (they also have links for other workouts.)

That has 3 more pages which you can find close to the bottom of the page (4 week body makeover parts 2,3,4.)

Also remember to leave a day or two of no weight lifting a week to give the muscles a chance to refresh and build.

Im not supposed to be running before i lift?

no definately not. this will burn out all the energy you need to lift. You wont be able to push yourself as much as you can, giving you only a mediocre workout. leave cardio for after you lift
