Need help understanding this

Ok well I was lloking at WS4SB III and I read something I coudlnt understand

Max-Effort Exercise- work up to a max set of 3-5 reps in one of the following exercises.

Does this mean I warm up and work up to a weight where I can only do 3-5 reps? If anyone can clear this up for me that will be great.

Warm up and then lift what you may only be able to lift 3-5 times

for example I can bench 390ish
I warm up with 205 20 times
I will then put on 265 and do that 3-5 times

it basically means a progressive workload. warm up and then each following set should become increasingly heavier until your last set is 3-5 reps before you need ur spotter to help.

It didn't say to go to faliure, so the spotter shouldn't need to help, you should be able to complete the last rep yourself, but fail if you were to try another rep.

This is explained later in the article.
