Need Help Targeting A Specific Region!

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum. :)

I have a huge issue I need help with. My name is Brandon, I'm 19, and in a year I'm going to apply for the local police department. It's been a dream of mine since I could understand what a job was. My Dad's a US Marshal so I suppose it's the ol' "following the footsteps" senario. Anyway, since I'm going to be a police officer, I REALLY need help getting into shape. I'm also tired of looking the way I do.

I'm 6'0", and 175lbs. I'm not really fat, my legs are solid and the rest of me aside from my midsection is alright, but I have a bit of extra weight on my sides, stomach, and chest area that's really not noticible unless my shirt's off. I've always been extremely self conscience of this since about 6th grade, and have always worn shirts that hid it some how with different stripe patterns and/or logos/designs...I've started running this week and eating right (some what, I'll explain in a minute)....I run for about 20 minutes, and each day push myself about 50 yards further, and then do 20 push ups and started doing 30 crunches yesterday.

When I talk about the eating issue, I don't eat breakfast, rarely eat lunch (gotten better about it this week), and eat a very small dinner. I've been eating salads daily this week. I also drink maybe 1-2 glasses of water a day, which I know needs to be bumped up to 8 or so. I also have been smoking for the past 6 months, which I'll be stopping soon this month since the job I want doesn't hire smokers.

What can I do to get this extra weight off my mid section and chest? What should I be eating daily? (I'm not a picky eater...love veggies!) What can I do to make this fun rather then a painful chore?

This is the first time I've ever joined a forum to ask something like this...I REALLY want to go for it and DO it this time and follow through for more then a week.

Thank you all so much for your help in advance, please go into as much detail as you can, as I'm really looking for some good advice.

Thanks again:) ,
Brandon

You need to eat 6-7 small proportionate meals a day, never missing breakfast. Each should contain a serving or two of protein, avoiding simple carbs except for PWO and pPWO.

...and fat comes off wherever it wants, you can't pick.

like mreik said, having a meal plan. 6-7 times a day is important.
and start counting your caloric intakes with a deficit of course, because your trying to cut off the body fat.

and like mreik also said, theres no such thing as "spot reduction" so dont expect urself to lose stomach fat by doing 1000 crunches... lolz. u need to incorporate a full body workout routine with cardio to accomplish your goal.
dont expect results in less than 3 weeks. go further, about 2 months or so.

IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO EAT 5-6 MEALS A DAY, AND YOU MUST NOT MISS BREAKFAST. EVERY MEAL SHOULD INCLUDE A GOOD SOURCE OF PROTEIN AND CARBS, NO REFINED SUGARS. i AM TRAINING MY BROTHER WHO IS DOING THE EXACT THING YOU ARE, HE IS GOING INTO THE POLICE ACADAMY AND HAS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM YOU DO. REMEMBER, IT IS 50% DIET, 30% TRAINING, AND 20% MENTAL FOR MOST, AND SOMETIMES IT CAN BE ALL MENTAL!! HANG IN THERE, YOU CAN DO IT. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS LET ME KNOW.
