I am a newbie here and am hoping for support from people who know how it is to be fighting your weight. I am 33 years old tomorrow and I am DONE being over weight! I have 2 little gals I need to be a healthy role model for. I am currently 170 lbs after losing 4 lbs over the past 6 weeks or so. My worst time of the day is in the evening...ugghh last night marshmallows and graham crackers were screaming my name from the kitchen...and I caved. Oh man....so I figure that next time I want to run to the fridge I will go on here and type away and go for a walk! My goal is 130 lbs ...so only 40 more to go!!!! I am trying to make that sound positive...like it is something to look forward to :p . So if you comment in my diary I will do my VERY best to get on your and also comment. Thank you! And here I go.......

Welcome to the forum... You will do great here. Everyone is super supportive. I started off at 172 in feb.'06 and I am 157 as of today. i have been taking it day by day. I eat what I wnat just smaller portions. So you can toatally do this for yourself.
Stay positive and today is a new day for you. have a AWESOME Weekend and drink your WATER :D

Welcome, I am very familier with your battle, actually our stories sound pretty similar , my evenings were always my downfall I loved to snack, after a busy day at work and having two little people under 5 (3 and 2) I used it as a reward...

Once you decide to change it becomes easier, or that is what i found, I had a habit of putting things off and then I just said to myself Enough is Enough!

You can do it...this is a very supportive place!

My birthday weekend

Well, My husband took me away to wine country for my birthday...he surprised me! I don't know if it was fate or dumb luck, but we ended up getting there late and all but one winery was closing. So I drank all of 1 glass of wine. Had a fabulous dinner at their restaurant and probably blew a little over 1300 cals for the day...still need to check that out. This Am we traveled back up home and left too early to actually hit any winery's ...can't serve alcohol before noon on SUndays in NY. So I was saved from too many bad calories there!!! Had a salad for lunch and a small dinner, then a few bites of a chocolate ice cream cone my husband and gals were eating! Any other time we would be away I would be snacking the whole time...candy, chips, coffee coollatta from Dunkin Donuts. Anytime we stopped I could hear the twizzlers calling my name...but I successfully drown them out with my "positive thinking!" I know it sounds kind of wacky...but I am trying to make it work for me.
If anyone reads this I wanted to let you know about my calorie calculator. It is like a small palm pilot and it has bunch of foods saved in it and you can add a ton more. It keeps track of you calories and fat etc.. for about 3 days. I love it!!!! It's called a health fit counter. I am sure if you google it you will find their website...love it.

Hey, sounds like your off to a great start. I'm switching to fruit in the evening. Yes, this is good. Way to go!

Help!

Thanks so much for all the support! Today my nerves are trying to get the best of me. Tomorrow will be my weekly weigh in and I can already feel my old self doubt creeping up. I have stepped on that scale SOOOO many times with no change and then did an about face right to my refrigerator! I am so afraid if I did not lose anything and that I will end up right where I started. Then I think about my birthday weekend and how before I would have gourged myself full of food and wine and thought "I'll worry about it tomorrow". I wasn't perfect so I know that that may mean the scale will not budge. But I also did not miss a workout ...not one day! I am already beating myself up and I have 24 hours! I'm not sure I can handle seeing the scale at 170. I am not sure I can keep up my "postive thinking" if it doesn't even budge ....:(

I can totally identify with what you are saying....it took so many weeks of me sticking to a good eating plan an exercising before I saw any real progress at all. So you can't beat yourself up about it. No matter what the scale says...what you are doing for yourself is healthy and postive. And your body will show all kinds of results because of it. You may notice that your skin looks better, or your nails are growing faster and stronger. And eventually the scale will move. But everyone's bodies are different. It will adapt at it's own rate of pace. You cannot rush it.

Just tell yourself every day that you are treating yourself well, and your body will respond in it's own way and in it's own time. But just keep doing what you're doing. You're doing great!!!!

And after you eat dinner, brush your teeth. That's really helped me not snack at night. LOL!!!! But it does seem to work. :D

Very nicely put Scarlett! I was listening to your advice too!

SPELIN01: Thanks for stopping by my journal... you are too kind...I love your sense of humor!:p

Happy belated birthday! Your hubby sounds very thoughtful!

OK, so I can totally relate on your issue with that damn scale... I too was very frustrated last week about the same thing... and then I told myself, I am not going to weigh myself, daily or weekly.... yeah right... I can't seem to stay away from it... then I thought about it... at least the weight isn't going UP right? And at least I am working out and feeling better and full of life and energized for my 2 little girls... so what I did about a week or two ago was measure myself... so I think on Friday, I will measure myself again at the same time I weigh in... so I can at least see progress somewhere... and if the tape measure doesn't move.... I can suck in my belly and feel better anyway!! ha ha just kidding...
seriously though... good luck and I will stop by and check on you too!!
journal your food intake too... it DOES help! (even though I didn't add my cookies I ate today! better go back and write it in! ha ha
Have a great week!

Thanks for your encouragement ladies. I am sitting here eating a Lean Curisine - no preservative- chicken Marsala meal 140 cals and only 12 net carbs. It really isn't too bad. I am usually not one to buy processed food...I try to stay away from all those chemicals...but this supposedly has no preservatives. I have always thought that I eat pretty well..I am big into fresh natural ingredients. If there is an ingrediant on the box an 8 yr old could't read...We will not eat it. Of course there is an exception to every rule and mine is BROWNIES!!! Oh god, there is one thing I CANNOT say no to! WEAKNESS!!! I also like Tortilla chips (all natural of course :D ) And probably the most obvious reason for my weight issues...ICE CREAM! Now I generally only buy Breyers or Turkey hill All Natural...but that does not change the calorie intake!!!! When I was pregnant for each gal I ate ice cream like it was going out of style! *day dreaming about it*
Has anyone ever read The Fat Fallacy by Dr Will Cower? He talks about eating like the French do. Very interesting. I truly believe a lot of weight issues are portion control. Man I can gourge myself....and it takes alot of just being in the moment and aware when you are eating to start controlling this. Once I feel a little more in control of my eating I think I may pick up that book again and see if it helps.....
BTW for all who care...I chickened out on weighing myself today....I think I will wait a day or two and work up the courage:eek:

You are doing good. Don't get discourged. i have a hard time with my portions... I just through it all away. but first I put water in or on my foods and mustard and ketchups and etc..... To make sure I don't eat anymore:D

Have a WONDERFUL DAy and drink your WATER:D

Honey, you just weigh yourself whenever you are ready. But always remember it's more about how you feel than what the numbers on the scale say!!!

I agree with the portion control issue...I struggle with it, and I think it was my major problem, there is nothing wrong with things in moderation it is just learning to control portions etc.....I am getting there now, and feel confident I can keep it up, you will too!

You CAN handle whatever the scale says! You are working hard at making changes and that's the important thing. If the number on the scale goes down this week GREAT! If not then you keep up the changes and next week will be different. And remember, slow and steady is the best way to keep the weight off. Give yourself a big hug!!!!

I know the scale can be daunting but you are doing great!! It doesn't matter what the scale says as long as you know there is a change and I know how you feel about ice cream mmm stawberry cheesecake :) Keep up the goood work!!

scales

You might have noticed by my ticker I have issues with the scale, too. Having the whole first month off from looking at the scale was hard to do, and yet very freeing. I will weigh on Saturday for the first time in 30 days. I just know the number will be down at least a little, because I have been working hard making little changes. After that, I won't weight again until 30 more days have passed. I plan to keep this up until I can get on a scale without getting depressed or discouraged at the daily fluctuations. Those feelings just get in the way of my success. This plan was hard, especially the first two weeks, but I highly recommend it to anyone with scale issues.

You guys are so awesome...Thanks for all the encouragement! Today has been pretty good eating wise...which is amazing because I am PMSing REALLY HARD!!!! Can anyone say B**ch? But unlike other times when I am PMSing...I am NOT eating like crazy!!! YAY! I have only had 589 according to my calorie counter and I still have to eat dinner. Not too bad.
Dragged my sorry butt outta bed (as I went to bed WAY too Late) early this AM to work out...But I did it. Only 30 minutes and I will walk 30 minutes after dinner tonite. So I am not only cranky, but tired which equals that B word up above  ! Hope everyone is doing well! SMILES to Everyone!

Spelin01, I completely understand your aversion to the scale. I'm one of those people who always looks forward to weigh-ins, but then, if that nasty old scale doesn't say what I WANT it to say, I'm ready to throw in the towel. On the other hand, if the scale is a NICE scale and gives me good numbers, THEN I want to eat something good to celebrate. Sometimes you just can't win :p

Get settled into your new eating routine before you push yourself to get on the scale--or just don't do it at all. You can always just measure success by how your clothes fit and how you feel.

One thing: since you eat mostly natural food, you may find you are getting much less fiber than usual with the frozen dinners. If you find you are hungry all the time, add in some fiber.

Most importantly, keep at it; you CAN do this!

I couldn't agree more with the fiber thing. It's so important, and you really have to get it from food too (as opposed to supplements) High fiber foods are much more nutritious and filling. Fiber supplements are great if you're having difficulty with "regularity" but if you're trying to lose weight and keep yourself from starving, find the highest fiber foods you can and eat them at every meal. I add ground flax seeds to my yogurt so it digests slower even. I try to eat 2 veggies at dinner and 1 or 2 during the rest of the day. I try to eat at least 3 servings of fruit a day too. I have banished white flour from my diet (it creeps back in during my weak moments, but the more I talk about banning it, the easier it gets). Go for the fiber, it makes life easier (no starving!).

I no how you feel, I lose a lot of self control at that time to…you can tell from my diary lol. Do the best you can do hun and try and get that water and exercise in.
